How to jab properly - A powerful jab is probably the most useful punch in all of boxing. howtofightnow.com You can mess up people's faces, and win the technique game. If you learn how to throw a good jab, you will be able to keep your opponent away from you, and also use the punch to set up additional power strikes.
Boxing Technique isn't always easy to master, and proper jab form is no different. That said, a little focus will give you the tools that you need to win fights every time. I especially love using jabs to set up my roundhound kicks. While jabbing alone might not win the fight, the use of this punch to deliver massive power strikes is invaluable.
You can learn how to strike harder, and use the jab for additional set ups by visiting howtofightnow.com.
The jab video lesson is in the section titled "The Basics". Also in that section are tricks using the jab to land more strikes, as well as other boxing technique video lessons for the cross, hook, and general striking power.
visit howtofightnow.com to learn everything there is to know about punching form, and winning street fights every time.

Bas Rutten fights with a completely square fighting stance, and yet your are critiquing my angle of entry. I have trained with him since '98 The entire world can double jab moving to the left, the only strike you are vulnerable to is an overhand right, which is also probably the easiest strike to slip in all of fighting. A fighter can make almost anything work, you can also continue to name the obvious counters for everything, then I'll name the counter to your counter and nothing is proven.

Maybe some people don't realize this but Trav is an excellent teacher. You know, a badass teacher. Some people may be good at what they do but that doesn't qualify them to teach. Trav says some great lessons and makes it entertaining so you can actually pay attention and remember them. I currently have A.D.D. But I'm retaining most of what he says. So maybe it's just his personality but it's great while teaching. That and people will show you more respect.

I like Trav. He has a good sense of humor and his videos are both educational and entertaining. Overall he seems like a highly skilled fighter. Some of his lessons might apply to pugilism ('boxing'), some might not. But all are practical for self-defense purposes ('street fighting'). That being said, violence is NOT cool, and bullies suck! :P Thanks, Trav.

that is true if your mostly try to jab and move or get a potshot.but when it comes to throwing your right hand in that stance it severely takes away range and maybe even a bit of power. It really comes down to the situation and opponent and yourself what stance you use.

All the power from punching come from the ground, that's why its better to stay flat footed when punching, its called "rooting", its a lot like how a tree is rooted into the ground, secondly connecting your hips and elbows into your punch is very important.I also prefer face my opponenets with my hips square on, this allows me to use both hands equally, thirdly staying relaxed when punching is key....This is great channel by the way and I love the energy your putting into ur videos...Peace

Bas Rutten is a one of my favorites, other than him and Tyson I don't see many ppl applying the "facing" principal, which we practice in Wing Chun. Facing gives u so many advantages in fighting, it allows you to use 2 hands while he has 1, to fire off more punches quickly, and its easier to protect ur centreline etc

If your hand is going into the guys face, but it's not supported by anything connected to the floor, how can it possible have a powerful impact? You WANT your force to be going into the floor, so you are supporting my point. Your foot drives your hip forward, hip connects to the torso and subsequently your shoulder. The bottom line is, if you visualize the method I teach, your jab will be a lot faster and it will have the support of your legs driving into the ground.

I'm still doing my boxing trainings at least once per week at home (boxing bag shadow boxing and more). But i start feeling rly slow compared to my previous weight of ~170 well my hit get lot more harder but lot more slower. Can u give me some advice how to gain speed up and still lifting..

I really never thought about how all jabs can be divided into how many feet you throw into it. The idea of breaking all jabs down into two groups is brilliant. Everything else is a variation after all. Am I misinterpreting your lesson?

Jab is nice, because it FEELS natural to follow up with another strike.....with a hook, there's Lots of practice for follow-up....and your Abdominal Core needs to be Strong, since you're pivoting back and forth.....with a Jab, it's just a Straight punch...and slight leg movement, which can be learned REALLY fast.....and the speed is Very quick.

What about throwing a faster jab by using Bruce Lee's method of always moving the hands before the feet with hand techniques. As in starting to throw the jab, then taking the step slightly after you start extending the arm, and the fist landing on the target slightly before the step lands, so your forward momentum goes into the target instead of the floor. It is slightly tricky getting the timing, but I land straight lead punches with doing that all the time.

Problem: I have had a stroke resulting in a weak & uncoordinated left jab. Drunks that want to fight see my weakness then look at me like a lion ready to pounce then feast on a kill, this happens regularly now and many times their friends step in and save my ass or I can flip the situation and buy them a beer and we become buddies...Unfortunately this tactic does not always work and I end up taking to many hard shots to the body and head...& that's not fun. Should I just focus on using my right side as the fighting side and use the left as more of the defensive side expecting to take more blows?

Good videos trev but would like to see how good your technique works How about you visit a mma or boxing gym take the camera down there on sparring day Explain why you are there etc and maybe spar with 3 different guys starting from a novice and move upwards the head movement is effective but not sure how much especially with half decent fighters. but would really like to see a good amateur boxer or somebody on there way to being half decent spar for a round or two with you.
