You forgot the 2nd seller signature line under the odometer statement. I believe this NEEDS to be signed by the seller in addition to the release signature. Very important signature you don't want to miss!

1A needs to be filled out by Seller, dated and signed, then below the odometer both Seller and Buyer needs to print, date, and sign, does the Seller needs to sign number #2 Signature Release of Liability, or is that only for the Lienholder to sign releasing the vehicle? If the Vehicle is paid off and no lienholder I don't believe #2 needs to be signed by the Seller and dated! Am I correct on this? If anyone can offer assistance that would be much appreciated, thank you! I'm debating if the Seller needs to sign #2 on the bottom of the title, releasing interest in Vehicle? 👍😊

Yea once its paid off and you get a new title without the bank as a lien transfer it under gift so you dont pay taxes on the transfer

Do you happen to know what would i need to do in my situation? When i bought my car my mother is my co-signer because her credit score is better than mine and we got a lower apr rate. The car is already paid off, no lien on the title, and we have the title in hand. Both of our names are on the title but hers is first (there is "or" after my mother's name and then mine below it) Now the car is paid off, we want to removed my mother's name on the titled solely to me. No DMV required, just take it to the title transfer office! There are a lot of independent shops, so just google "title transfer office" for your area. That is where you pay all the fees.

Please explain the box directly under the owner's date and signature. It begins with "Federal and State Law requires that you state the mileage...." and then there's an "under penalty of perjury" declaration for the odometer reading with a signature and date lines? Are you saying, the seller doesn't need to do this part? And what about the 3rd signature in the bottom right corner that releases interest?

It looks like to can actually do the whole transfer online at the CA DMV website.... so what am I missing? You upload a scanned copy and everything. I came here to figure out how to fill it out because I don't want to mess that up and the instructions on the website are not exactly clear. But this is more about having someone else do it. lol.

I've never heard of a way to do it online... Personally I'd be concerned the DMV would lose something or I'd fill something out imperfectly. Let me know if you figure this out because it would be a game changer if it worked.

​@@NicksCarHistoryA third party DMV service is not cheaper lol Yes there is no appointment or wait time, but you still have to pay a fee. The DMV is free. They have way more knowledge, provide service for unique situations and can override anything. If you walk into the DMV 30 minutes before they close its usually a very small wait time.

@@djayeenayea. The person you want removed has to sign 1a. Leave 1b blank. Then you both sign and date the bottom part after it says “I certify that..” there’s also a dmv transfer form you have to fill out yourself for the cost of the car. I said the car cost $1 or a gift and it worked. I brought it to dmv and they mailed me my new title with just my name on it.

Your video on how to properly fill out a state of California certificate of title was pretty thorough however you stated that all you needed on the front page of the certificate of title is the date and the signature of the seller, below that the agreed odometer reading, below that the date and signature of the seller on the left and the date and signature of the buyer on the right but you did not mention and totally skipped over The section at the bottom that says important read carefully: it asks for a signature but the instructions are any changes or lienholder holder of security interest must be reported to the DMV within 10 days so signature to with the signature releases interest in vehicle in parentheses company names need to be countersign and then it has release date so does the owner of the vehicle sign here as well He’s an individual not a business because it gives instructions that it is a business they have to sign but what about if it’s an individual so proprietor no business involved. You totally skipped over that area. I don’t want to go to AAA/DMV with an incomplete certificate of California certificate of title as I just bought this car. Hopefully you could read this and post comment soon
