Hi, if I use the same stick and light it at the same end each time, it had a burnt smell since it is burning the previous part. Should I break up the stick into different pieces so that I get a fresh smudge and smell each time?

How many smudge sticks are necessary to cleanse a 3000sqfthome as well as 6 participants. We've all had a lot of losses along the way and are in need on some good energy. Also we are getting together as a group in support of a very good friend who has had numerous losses and negativity in her life in the past 6 months. She is very special to us. She's the one who is there for everybody else. Its time to pay it forward.This will be the first time for all of us to do this. We are very excited to help her and ourselves ..BUT we don't want to overdue it with the smoke

When first lighting your smudge stick NEVER blow on it to extinguish the flame. Blowing out the flame is improper and could be viewed as insulting. Use your free hand and gently wave a bit of air over it to put out the initial flame.

Hello Non-Native Americans. Please remember to respect the sacred traditions of indigenous peoples by acknowledging the Elders that have enabled this sacred practice for the rest of us and DO NOT BUY IT FROM Capitalistic Greed, buy it from Respectfully Conscious people that have a connection with Indigenous Communities and grow out SUSTAINABLY because that is what is the right thing to do . And if you're going to be continuing to take Indigenous lands, practices and resources for your own benefit, the least you can do is give an acknowledgement of the Native Elders to those you're sharing these practices with. Traditional medicine plants and bushes are being ravaged and consumed by Capitalistic Greed and Unconscious minds that could give not give 2 shits about cultural appropriation and respect.

One should never use Abalone Shells. The heat from the smudge releases shell particles that are like shards of glass in micro fine elements into the air.
@elizabethking8373
@elizabethking8373 6 жыл бұрын
Kay-Marie Adkins Ive seen the reason for abalone shells is that the shell is the element for water. Sage itself is of earth, because it is a plant, also fire, because it is burning, and finally air, because of the resulting smoke. Spiritual rituals ideally combine all four elements and that is why the Native Americans used the shells. Its traditional way to burn. I personally found a brass cauldron I prefer to use instead. But your personal input is interesting and something worth considering, if the smudger wants to be environmentally considerate.

@@benebab12 hi.. I can't remember exactly why I wrote this cause it so long ago. The video doesn't seem too bad ; I guess she does explain what to do?. I tried looking up an old video for you but couldn't find it.. But I found one that I had copied down the words in the ritual they did & said it out loud as I saged/smudged myself. And friends .. it's in the video link. Below. t around 1.25min mark it says like : "SMUDGE YOUR EYES SO YOU WILL ONLY SEE GOOD THINGS " "SMUDGE YOUR MOUTH SO YOU ONLY SPEAK GOOD THINGS!" "SMUDGE YOuR EARS TO ONLY HEAR GOOD THINGS ; CAUSE THERE'S SO MUCH BAD MEDICINES OUT THERE".. ETC.. I'd try writing them down & saying them with the intention of it as you do it.. Also I think your ment to really smoke out the whole house not just a little bit. I even smudged around my front yard kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqKcaISup751kJY

PHH white sage is incredibly sacred to many indigenous cultures and is a closed practice, meaning that it would be cultural appropriation if you used white sage unless you are indigenous or invited by an indigenous person into the practice. it’s also being incredibly over harvested to be sold to “spiritual” people in mass chains like walmart which is basically stealing a sacred herb from indigenous people. the way that she said in the video “it has been adopted by many cultures” is not true and is just justifying this cultural appropriation. they also called it “smudging” which is a term for a very specific closed indigenous practice that has been appropriated by people just to describe smoke cleansing. this is also poor instruction and not how you cleanse, like the fact that she failed to mention the fact that white sage acts as a “spiritual bleach” persay and removes all energy, good and bad and that it is important to impliment good energy back into the space so that bad energy can’t just go right back in.

ogres have layers this is so fascinating. i don’t have no intentions of purchasing this herb because i’m not indigenous but i LOVE hearing about the culture and practices, which is why i clicked on this video. how would someone reintroduce good energy? what’s the proper way to use it? if you don’t mind me asking

PHH i’m not indigenous but as a practitioner of witchcraft i did have to learn a lot about white sage and other closed indigenous practices to make sure i didn’t have cultural appropriation in my craft. white sage is a sacred plant in many indigenous cultures and is often burned for cleansing, wisdom, clarity, etc. It is used to cleanse spaces, people, as traditional medicine, for spiritual healing, and is an incredibly powerful and sacred plant in many traditional indigenous ceremonies. many people describe white sage as a “spiritual bleach” and that it removes all energy, both good and bad. it is believed by many people that this leaves just a blank space for negative energy to go right back into the space, so many people burn something else after the white sage that attracts positive energy back into the space. this is why in many indigenous smudging rituals palo santo, a sacred wood to many indigenous people is also burned. (i am not an expert and different traditions have different beliefs, this did just what i have heard from indigenous friends and my own research, but it is best to verify witch an indigenous person to be sure) in this video, they didn’t mention this while they were cleansing. the practice of burning herbs, whether it is white sage or not, is often called “smudging” by people who are misusing that term, when in reality, smudging is an indigenous practice of burning white sage to cleanse and purify. here is an article that further explains the significance of the plant in indigenous practices, keep in mind it’s a few years old so it does imply that it is okay to “adopt” the practice of smudging into your practice even if you’re not native. people have different opinions on this, some believe that if you get the white sage sustainably sourced it is okay to use even if you are not native, but i as someone who is a spiritual practitioner i have decided to not use it at all because i have seen many indigenous people online saying that it shouldn’t be used by non-natives at all unless you are invited into the practice by a native. aromaticmedicineschool.com/white-sage-wisdom-clarity/ If you’re interested, here’s another article explaining the large amount of cultural appropriation of white sage in the spiritual community (it might not be 100% accurate in describing native rituals but does give some good explanation of the problem with this) www.beautyindependent.com/native-americans-troubled-appropriation-commoditization-smudging/
