As a former hairdresser in Denmark, i always used to say to my customers “Cream protection in wet hair, spray protection in dry hair”! ☺️ I’m happy you confirmed this! 😁 And I wasn’t a fan of oils either cause I always imagined the heat plates from straighteners as a frying pans that heated up the oil & fried the hair! 😅😂😂 That was my theory! 😁

Thank you for your informative videos. You teach people the science of hair so people understand the do’s and don’ts of hair care. I purchased your recommended products and I see the difference in my hair. As for oil heat protection I myself wondered how that could protect hair when they use oil for cooking.

So about a month ago I made it a point to change my hair habits. I have very heat damaged, 4b hair. I bought the pureology leave in he always recommends and Olaplex No.’s 0, 3-5 and 8. I also got a really good haircut that was overdue… I can honestly say I don’t ever remember my hair being this soft! Mind you I’ve been getting trims 4x a year but never able to get past bra strap length- So I know for sure it’s the new products!!! I also have had FAR less shedding- like huge difference. I still have some breakage but nowhere near as much as before. I’ve gotten these results one week post introducing new products. I went two weeks with no shampoo on flat ironed hair (using Gisou honey hair serum every two days). And one week with two wash days with my hair in it’s natural state, wearing low manipulation hairstyles (sealing the leave in with Curls Blueberry Bliss hair oil). I was very skeptical about the advice working on my hair type but I’m honestly so excited to see such a quick and drastic change in such a short amount of time!!!

I was introduced to a flat iron around age 11, I had butt length hair, by the time I was 13, my hair had broken off to around ear length. I have blamed heat for so long but I realize now that I was just abusing it 😭 I just wish someone taught me how to properly use it. I would literally just sit and watch cartoons and go over my hair with the flat iron for hours. Every single day. No heat protection, no nothing. Just 450° 😭🤣

Yeah same 🥲 I think that's the main reason why people say "never use heat on your hair", they probably all have that imagine in their head of someone burning their hair every single day. If you use it 1-2x per week and take good care of your hair it won't be damaged, at least not drastically.

@neil5059
@neil5059 Жыл бұрын
I think what he meant to say was that you shouldn't completely believe the claims on labels because they are written by people who do marketing, not hair styling. The example that he gave in the video is that both the Olaplex hair oil and the Pureology leave in conditioner state that they benefit your hair in providing heat protection, this just doesn't mean that either products are suited as an actual heat protectant like a dedicated blowout cream or ironing heat protectant. So you are still fine to use a different heat protectant from what he recommends, just make sure it's a product that's sole purpose is providing a heat protectant and not something else which lists heat protection as one of the 20 benefits

Have you ever had clients with very curly or kinky hair? If so, in your experience do you recommend the same time for heat placed on the hair (1 week)? It seems that many 'naturals' are saying that those with type 3 or 4 hair shouldn't straighten their hair no more than once a month (at most every two weeks) so your hair won't break.

Hi! I just wanted to comment because I'm mixed and have 3b curly hair. It's often frizzy and extremely dry and I started using the products and heat styling tips he recommended for coarse hair and it's made my hair much more manageable, soft, and healthy. It even cuts down the time it takes to straighten my hair. Even my mother who has more 3c to 4a type hair uses the same products of the Morrocanoil line that he recommends and she styles and straightens her hair and hers is also extremely soft as well as low maintenance. My hair is healthiest when I stick to his routine and wash it every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks, otherwise it gets too dry and starts breaking. For my mom, she can go between 2 and 3 weeks and she has much shorter hair. I hope this helps in some way.

Thank you so much, this is the first time I've ever been told I should wait 3 days between heat styling my hair and that is so valuable to know! Just a question I'm sure applies to many others, I work out most days and get sweaty hair, so between shampoo and conditioner wash days, I 'wash' my hair with just water to get the sweat out. Is this bad for hair and is there a way to keep it healthy when doing this between washes and blow drys?
@chagoot1024

I agree with you. He has a video on working out and hair care, but to me, that seems to be to preserve the style. I was more worried about the salt from the sweat than the oil or the style. I am concerned about the salty sweat on my scalp than the oil. They say washing with water won't get the oil out completely, but I do believe, as I don't care about preserving any particular "style", I would wash with water just to get the sweat out, if I got sweaty during workouts. Perhaps just a bit of sweat is ok. I'm not like a lot of the young ladies worrying about their hair on the Internet. I'm 72, female, and just glad it's still mostly all there. My philosophy has always been "I leave my hair alone, and it leaves me alone".

Thank you so much Chris! Adding a leave in conditioner to my routine has changed my hair. After struggling with dry frizzy hair for a long time, finding a routine that makes me want to flaunt my hair had made me so happy and more confident. I’m grateful for your valuable advice! Keep going, loads of love from India 🤗

@@madhudd6495 He also recommends the leave-in conditioner from Moroccan Oil. I have Indian hair 2a/2b. Both the Pureology and Moroccan Oil one work amazingly. If I had to pick one tho I’d go for the Moroccan one as it works a tiny bit better with my thick hair.

Thank you!!! I've noticed that heat really does my mane good. I use heat on my hair only twice or three times a week... and only after washing and conditioning my hair, which is only a few times a week at most lol. I never touch it up with heat. It never works for me! I refresh my hair with nourishing products if need be.

Your videos are a GODSEND. Thank you so much. I have recently purchased a decent hot air brush (silver bullet 32mm) and a high quality blowdry cream, a wonderful drugstore dry shampoo, and a nice hair oil. I follow your advice and my hair has never been better 😀 Not only that but I spend far less time and stress and money on my hair now, and it looks great, consistently. I’m so grateful for your videos, Professor!

Hi! Quick question, does the Redken thermal heat protectant with 22 hold make your hair crunchy ? I’m not a fan of hairspray for everyday use/hairstyles so I’ve always been skeptical of heat protectants with hold. 😅 Thank you!

You have given me more good info on this channel than I’ve gleaned in my whole life:) I’m wondering if you have any advice for ladies who workout 5-6 days a week. Is your advice the same? Chris, I just want to say that I am very impressed with your channel. One video that really made a difference for me was the one where you styled half of the models hair with drug store products and the other half with good quality products. I am 54 and have very rarely used salon products because I assumed they were not worth the money. After watching your video, I took your quiz to work out what products to use. I bought the products (yes...pricey...it did hurt a bit...) I used them and am still using them. I have to tell you that my hair looks and feels pretty amazing. Also I now only have to wash every 6 to 7 days, so I figure I am saving money. I am using the volume shampoo which is helping a lot, the leave in conditioner, the hair protectant and the Oloplex oil which is incredible. Thanks so much for giving us information we can actually use. Regards from Australia.

I'm so glad I found your videos; they have been very helpful. I'm very much a wash and style my fine thinning hair only two times a week. However, I'm starting up a gym routine and unfortunately, the class schedule that works for me is Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. My hair is definitely gross and needs rinsing at the very least after a workout. What do you suggest for a care and style routine in this case? I really don't want to damage my hair and have lost more than I would like with menopause.

Another question 😁 I can't get the Redken hot sets 22 in my country, it seems to be discontinued. I can only find the "Thermal Spray Iron shape, 11 low hold" and based on the reviews, people don't like that at all. Is there another heat protectant that you can recommend for fine hair?

Hi Chris! I’m very new to your videos and techniques. With that being said I feel like your videos are geared towards straight hair girls! What about us curly haired girls? We don’t brush our hair while drying it, we’d have frizz. We can’t always go 3 or more days without washing or doing something to calm down the frizz from sleeping on it? So the videos which are very informative are also confusing because we have different needs and attention other than what you’re showing and demonstrating? Please help us curly girls out a little more!! I for one am transitioning back to blonde from a dark brown so I need allot of moisture and protein which I am using the olaplex 3, the pureoligy leave in, the redken volume shampoo and conditioner (light pink bottles) and the olaplex oil for about 2 weeks now. My hair still does not feel the healthiest. Day one is not so bad but day two it’s dry looking and all knitted up!? Please help!! Thank you!! Jennifer

If you have properly curly hair (like a 3b or above), i would recommend watching someone who caters to curly hair rather than asking someone who clearly specialises in straightening Caucasian/ wavy hair only (which you can tell by him saying you should go multiple quick passes which is a big NO to anyone with properly curly hair). If you want curly hair tips maybe watch Bianca Renea, Manes by mel or Francelli Rodriquez or if you want curly to straight maybe try deeper than hair tv. :)

I don't understand why he keeps saying that Pureology's leave in has no heat protection. It contains amodimethicone which is a silicone that serves as a heat protectant. It may not be good for hot tools but should work for a blow out.

This channel helped me throw out a wavy defining mousse that was making me break out because the olaplex No. 3 was what was really defining my waves to begin with. I just couldn't tell because I was using both products at the same time. I actually started using the mousse more and I wondered why my hair wasn't looking right. Olaplex No. 3 is a godsend.

Is what I own an iron in brush form, or a blow-dry brush? Mine, which I don't use that much, has an adjustable setting for heat that will go over 400 degrees, but I always have it on the low setting, never going past 300, if that much. I simply use it to brush my hair, like a regular brush, and it only takes a few minutes. I'm not trying to "style", but to make it a bit smoother and less tangly, especially in the back. So, should I use the iron stuff, or the blow-dry stuff if and when I use the heated brush? I mostly just let my hair air-dry. The brush is something I bought this summer as my hair was doing weird corkscrew stuff, although it's long and just wavy. I looked like Weird Al.

I use everything that he suggested and the correct shampoo and conditioner. I wash my hair every 5-6 days. No matter what I do my hair is frizzy. As soon as I step outside BAM 💥. The curls that form are amazing but frizzy. Living in TX and the humidity is horrible. My hair never looks nice in my opinion. I don’t even brother to flat iron anymore because it does not matter. 😢
