I will try this method. I've only ever done whip stitch. I do like to hand bind as opposed to using a sewing machine.

Wish you would’ve explained better or shown a clearer photo of where you put the needle after you come out of the fold. Did you enter the fold on one end, come out the other end of fold and then go thru back? or just one end of fold then the backing? It wasn’t really clear. Do you go just above or just below the line of machine stitching when go thru back? Go a lot slower too. you only showed like two or three stitches then switched to whip stitch.
