I prefer to wear dress shoes with straight cut denim because, straight cut is very similar to traditional trousers. Slim cut tend to make your feet look long and out of proportion. The Levi's 514 is perfect for shoes and boots in my opinion. Great lookbook as usual. My favorite is the two-tone brown shoes. I pulled the trigger on a similar pair yesterday from Ace Marks shoes.

Before Covid and working from home for the last 9 months, this was my goto office look. I'm an IT Director in a casual environment. Denim or chinos, with my Allen Edmond brogue boots, is/was a great look. I typically went with the Untuckit style button down to complete the outfit. I was comfortable, and the shoes pop with just enough style contrast to be understatedly noticeable.

i know the answer to that question. by outting them on. i don't own dress pants, or suits or even chinos, but i have lots of dress shoes. black cap toes or wholecuts work great with jeans. i do have red shoelaces in them though.

John, While I agree with your comments about black shoes not being entirely suitable for wearing with blue jeans, I went back and had a second look at your presentation, in order to confirm my opinion that the window pane style multicolour blue sports shirt that you wore around the mid point of the video, would in my opinion look superp with light blue denim jeans and well polished, good quality leather, black wing tip broques. I never wear denim jeans, but your shirt changes the game for me. And it would go well with a $500 quality dive watch [ Something else that I would only wear on a Sunday ].But a nice tight presentation, I enjoyed watching. Phil.

I'm tempted to spend some money on some Peter Manning jeans but am nervous about whether to order slim or relaxed, Any advice? I think this is a much better look for 40+ men as it is both mature and dressy. Sneakers are best for the 30- crowd or when you want to be truely casual and will not lie to yourself that sneakers dress the jeans up instead of down, which is what they really do.

Short or long videos, I always love your content John. I dress for my job wearing denim and dress shoes so the more videos that you make like this the better. I'm 5'9" and wear a short length denim but I sometimes feel in some jeans there is still too long a break for wearing dress shoes. About black shoes, may be there is an exemption : black loafers with black jeans, or dark grey jeans. I think it's ok. Otherwise brown or burgandy shoes are better options with denim.

Well buy dressboats, they work with everything, especially brown full grain. Raw denim is the only denim, ages beutifull and have tons of caracter, buy them where they fix them for free like Nudie. You need 2 pair, one to wear and one to repair, dont wash them for a long time.
