Actually, they will go through their teen years, of I know everything, mom and dad don't. And, the "why do I have to be home for Shabbat dinner., my friends are waiting at the movies " stage...At 17, 18, its the... I'm an adult it's my life stage. Except Sonya and Mr Prep will of course, not tolerate such blatant nonsense. At 19, 20....while in college, probably away from home....they'll start calling mom begging her to come home for Shabbat dinner. They'll start telling all their adult college friends, how their mom is the best cook, loving, and amazing....they will miss their mom and dad. Be home every holiday, after college graduation, entering real adult world....they'll finally understand, and appreciate their younger years. And, the traditions, Shabbat dinners, and moms amazing cooking skills will finally have them realize how much they will continue their own family traditions. That's why you enjoy their young, innocent, loving years now....because every moment with them will be a reminder of how they will want to continue the same traditions. At 25, thats when the girls will start calling mom for everything, because mom always knows, and she's always right. Every child, teen, almost early 20's adulthood....goes through these stages. Mr and Mrs. Prep will remain strong in their marriage and the fruits of their hard labor will not be in vein. We are 5 kids. We have so many traditions, faith, family gatherings and lots of food. Now all of us 30's and 40's have continued the traditions and appreciate our parents even more. After we lost our dad in March of this year, we became even closer. Kids never forget. And, they will appreciate and have such respect for their parents after they realize how blessed they were as kids.
@Marion1457L Жыл бұрын
You should not be so self righteous. You can’t predict what five different children will do when they reach adolescence and college age-or how their parents will respond. There are lots of different ways to be good Jews. Sonya’s Prep is excellent at showing the way that works for her family.

Hi Sonya, I am not Jewish but I love to watch how you prepare for Shabbat and the holidays! Your eldest son really loves to cook, and he did a great job! I think it is so sweet that your children enjoy themselves together while building memories and a religious foundation. I get nervous with children near mixers, hot oil etc. - so I give you a lot of credit for being so brave! I cringed when they were putting the flour in the mixer. Additionally, you look so much like your mother! My goodness - I could tell you are her daughter! I also like how clean you are with how you handle everything in your kitchen...so nice. I would buy brownies at your bake sale anytime! Thank you for sharing the traditions of your faith.

What a wonderful helper Yehoshua is for you with making latkes. Such a very capable and clever boy, BAH. My son Ezra, who is now married with sons of his own, was my helper with latkes. I like to handgrate the potatoes, and chop onions, as the coooked texture appeals to me, and I add some cinnamon to the mix. Sometimes I serve the latkes with applesauce, sometimes just plain.

I've had a lifelong resentment for latkes ever since I snuck into the kitchen, aged 4, and ate a fistful of raw latke mixture that had me curled up in a ball on the bathroom floor for the first 3 days of Chanukkah. But your son did brilliantly ! Those latkes almost look good enough for me to consider trying them for the first time in two decades. It's also delightful to see how excited he is to be cooking. He's a great kid, surrounded by a wonderful family, with lovely traditions.
