HP ProDesk 400 G5 TWR - Teardown and gaming upgrade

In this video we'll take a deep dive into the hardware of the HP ProDesk 400 G5 tower version. I will first disassemble the machine, then re-assemble it, install Windows 11 and do some benchmarks.
Once we have a good idea on how the installed NVIDIA GT 1030 performs, I will also upgrade that card with an NVIDIA GTX 1650 and re-do the benchmarks. Finally I'll also test some games like Microsoft Flight Simulator and GTA V on this machine after upgrading it.

Sir, Great vid. But WARNING to all that may get caught like myself. After seeing this vid managed to find a HP Z1 EliteDesk G5 800, very very nice design really pleased. It came with a nVidia P620 and all the initial playing and setup was done on that at Full HD ( 1920 x 1080 ) absolutely fine. Then the nightmare begins. I managed to get a MSI GTX1650 Ventus XS and followed you installation info and updated drivers. Well Ok, works fine, that is if you don't mind your Win 10 desktop set at 1680 x 1050, and in win10 display settings it does say next to the setting ( recommended ), but above it was a 1920 x 1080 so lets select that one. No go, a desktop mess, and no matter what I try it's fixed at 1680 x 1050 for all normal everyday working as the PC is also general usage PC, but had hoped to get a reasonable game experience from it as well as the serious stuff. I am bitterly disappointed by these GTX1650's with this being the result and wonder what you may recommend as an alternative that can do some decent gaming but at least be useful at full hd for all the normal day to day use cases. Just a heads up for anyone watching this and not realising this, but off course if it is only a games machine you need well then no problem, Thks for your well done vids & Kind Rgds, PS the HP machines as you say are wonderful boxes, very well thought out.

Sounds like the right choices to my idea. More memory would be overkill and getting faster graphics would require a much heavier PSU. Enjoy!

Normal size, as long as it is not too long, should fit. As you could see, the GTX1650 was pretty much reaching the end of the available space.

A GTX1660 super needs around 125W of power. I think there is a good chance this might work but it is on the limits on the machine. Depends a bit on the other components present.

The power supply was in the case as it came from HP. The memory is from another machine, HP is not very picky in that area as far as I know.

A standard power supply unfortunately won't physically fit and can't be connect to the motherboard as it uses a different, proprietary, connector.

It is HP-specifc as it does power the drives through the motherboard and has different connectors. I do know that adapter cables exist to convert from regular ATX.

I like this normal design of this pc,so basically i doesn't like the rgb pc cause it takes a lot of power.other than that,rgb looks like show off to me,also too waste of money.

An RX580 consumes up to 185W so that would require a heavier power supply. You'd also be missing the PCIe power connectors on the HP-power supply. So a GTX1650 would still be an easier choice with nearly the same performance.
