"There was a war, but i must've won" This line breaks my heart so much. I mean, so alone, so desperate. There was a war, but i couldn't even realize anything, i'm alive, so i guess i won. I don't know how to put it into words in english, but this line really has some much meaning. Also, as we all know, sky will not be blue until that person comes, or until we replace that person with something else. Even if we can, i'm not sure which shade of blue it'd be. Also this song reminds me of Bowie's Space Oddity. Major Tom is alone up there in space, Steven is alone here, in planet earth. They are all hopeless.

I always thought of it as a kid who was too young to realize what had happened but now that I think of it I'm not sure that makes sense because how do you keep yourself alive if you are that young with no one to feed you
@akoc188 жыл бұрын
since this is a metaphorical song, at least to me, I think the war is like being alone in your own little world, trying to get over that (problems, someone leaving you...) and not being able to understand what is going on around you, losing the perception of time and everything. And people come from another planet, from another "little worlds", and he says "please take me with you" This is like asking for help from the first people you see, just wanting to get away from what's left of that war. A war with yourself, and with other people who don't understand you, and they are not around anymore because you've "won". You were abandoned, and you have waited for that person like a smart kid, like it was what you should've done. I'd like to make proper sentences but I am very sleepy and not a native speaker, so I hope I made myself clear. That is a summary of my interpretation of this song.

Personally, the line that breaks me is "I will wait for you, what else can I do?" Damn, that's so true, waiting for a special person knowing it's the only thing left you can do for you've tried it all... and till the sky is blue you won't stop waiting... so sad and powerful to me.

Porcupine Tree In my opinion is this a band with the same quality and standing as the great progressive Rock legends from the 70's. Sadly Porcupine Tree it's history. I don't think that they plan a reuniting, but in the minds of the real fans the legend lives on forever.

so many people want to see pt get back together. there was a magic about them as a band, they were one of the great ones. not just good. steven is very talented, i am not saying he isn't, but together, this band ranks up there with Pink Floyd and other legends. they just have that "thing" where you can see them always playing together and never running out of songs. i can understand sw's desire to explore other options and keep his creative fire fresh, but this band should get back together.
@Dehangus8 жыл бұрын
very well put but according to steven he couldn't write anymore new music for PT to play, which to me means they have all the more reason to get back together and write as a band or in pairs
@RXOBANSH336 жыл бұрын
Don't even need a new album personally, I can understand that he has no more to write for it, but another tour wouldn't go amiss. First band I saw live and I can barely remember it, would dearly love to see them again. Saw SW last month which was amazing though, got to hear him sing a few PT songs.
@raymondhartmeijer93004 жыл бұрын
@@RXOBANSH33 It would be great on some future date, to have a PT tour, if SW feels to revisited older music perhaps.. but Gavin keeps very busy with Crimson and Pineapple Thief, if Crimson eventually stops touring, perhaps

One would be hard pressed to find a more perfect album than Stupid Dream. Worth listening all the way through multiple times. But wait, so is Deadwing. But wait, so is In Absentia. But wait, so is Fear of a Blank Planet. You get the picture. I can't listen to all of the Pink Floyd albums. PTree is the better band, because their production values NEVER suck. I am amazed by these guys.

100% agree! Whatever SW touches turns into pure quality. All of his projects are worth listening.

I agree. Porcupine Tree is absolutely perfect, and what you said about Pink Floyd is true. I wish they'd have just stopped after The Wall because up until that point there isn't a single album of theirs I dislike. Sure, they had a few terrible songs ("Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict" and "Seamus"), but they weren't consistently bad until The Final Cut on.
@michaeledwards66838 жыл бұрын
I just realized both songs I consider terrible have animal sounds in them. Kinda makes you wonder why Animals turned out to be their best album, considering three of the five songs have animal sounds in them.

At 58yrs of age, I have been around a lot of music and and agree with your post. Ironically, I discovered PT around 2008 by complete accident after watching some Gavin Harrison youtube videos. It's by far my favorite band of all time and Steven Wilson's solo work is incredible as well.
@mondomike5557 жыл бұрын
I'm 67 and I just can't get enough of Porcupine Tree's music. I also discovered them around 2007-2008 while listening to Pandora. I ended up downloading a number of their songs for listening and ended up purchasing 16 Porcupine Tree CD's for my collection and there are a few more that I'd like to buy if I could find them for a reasonable price . They're worth every dollar! I've always been a huge fan of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Jethro Tull, ELP and a few of the other really spectacular bands from that era. At one time I considered Floyd, Zeppelin, Yes, Tull and several other bands worthy of being my favorite but it seems that Porcupine Tree has somewhat eclipsed those bands simply due to the sheer number of songs that are remarkably awesome and beautiful! I like to listen to music while surfing these h'yer internets and googles and it seems that every time I'm on my PC I end up with Porcupine Tree songs being played 90% or more of the time the past few years. I just can't get enough of their music. All of Steven Wilson's work really is truly incredible. One of my fondest wishes would be to see Porcupine Tree in concert.

@@wiggy009 - It's been a year. I'm not sure. I was probably referring to his music from the past (like this song) compared to his current music. Back in the day, around 2000, I liked almost everything he did. It was gut-wrenching music. And the instrumental portions were magic. Now? I still think _some_ of his music is exceptional, but the exceptional music is the exception. It used to be the rule.
