Great review Brad. I was waiting for Huion to step up and they did in really good way. On this particular model, Huion includes a screen protector "pre-installed" I recommend to anyone they keep it on, it will change the drawing experience out of the box. Second, use your illustration programs options to calibrate the pen. As any adjustments you make from the Kamvas will greatly vary from program to program. This makes the drawing experience almost seamless on the Kamvas.

I know these comments were like a year or so ago but I'm gonna add on anyway :,) I've had mine for a year or so and it's truly not that bad! The only problems I really had was "HoW Do I HolD THiS??", the light was a bit odd, and my pen wouldn't always land where I want. But those are problems that could be fixed with time like he said. I would say to keep looking before picking it out as the one though, there are better one sout there most likely. (Edit:Also It was a little scratchy)

The "color bleed" (term mostly used when some areas of color invade others or in the outer, color leaks some how. Non uniform lighting is also a similar a very horrible effect that can cause professional work problems) referred too, noticing now the moment of the video where he demonstrates it is actually ghosting produced by the terrible response time this screen has. I had my fight with an employee to get my money back for a monitor doing this. This happens mostly in TN (worst screens for graphic work) , many MVA (or PVA, etc) which provide extremely good blacks and great color, but usually horrid response times (IPS tend to be a better overall solution). This is the thing you gotta look for in the specs page as one factor that can produce ghosting. Be sure to never have sth below 12 -14, I'd go best for 5 or lower. In gaming, must be even better, but I guess most people here is interested in graphic production. Even so, is very important for people working in animation. Look at the specs page of this model.... 25 ms! :o That's exact value that had the monitor I asked my money back for. I don't enjoy that constantly while panning and zooming, and that's a constant in graphic work. And reading any document or web is a nightmare. This is an IPS monitor, one of the best types for graphic work - in theory, I would have to see professional color tests, how much of the spectrum of Adobe RGB - or even just sRGB, lol - it suports, etc . Just being an IPS doesn't guarantee much. But still, 25 ms is a way to high value, so it gets the ghosting. www.huiontablet.com/kamvas-gt-191.html Specifically, this is the culprit value : Response Time : 25ms That said, some other values are very good. My main issue with this device would be the wobbling/jitter, as with any drawing device. Seems that if I go for a cintiq alternative, it will have to be for the very few non battery pen models.... Is almost twice the price, but a higher rmodel from them has only 5ms. That's very good. www.huiontablet.com/all-products/pen-tablet-monitor/huion-gt-220-v2-132.html It has the 3 ports (vga, div, hdmi, just lacks display port, but am fine) Again, if that is true, that any pen with battery has wobbling, these are all discarded....

Ever since I did see your review (and Teoh's) I've wanted one of these. Finally got the budget for it. Great device, pleasure to move from 11'' to this size. Btw, I'm noticing the 8000+ levels compared to 2048 before. Much finer lines and thicker lines without changing the brush size all the time.
@nobody20214 жыл бұрын
i would be interested in this one because of the low price, but pens that need to be manually charged are a huge turn off. i've read a few accounts of people who have this tablet, and they take a year or so long break from drawing. they come back and the battery in the pen is completely dead and won't hold a charge, because of the long term neglect and the only way to use it is to have it plugged into the charger at all times. the real problem comes from the replacement pens either being unavailable entirely, or very expensive. in my opinion this could be seen as a durability issue, and it's a serious one.

@Tyfloon7 жыл бұрын
First, sorry about my english. Hello, im kinda satisfied with that screen, came from a simple wacom intuous and i can feel more precision on this thing, more fluid. I feel it kinda solid and stable not wobble problems with the base. Only thing to notice is the screen protector getting annoying air between it and the screen, it gives the light some kind of filter so it is not like having a monitor in front of your eyes, and also gives a diferent texture than painting on a glass screen. But i ended removing it and using computer glasses for eyes protection.
@Guidefer7 жыл бұрын
After watching a bunch of this alternative tablets review, I might say that the Huion KAMVAS 156HD is the best option! I bought one and I have been in love with it so far! The glass itself is coated, so it has that texture you would find on a Wacom product, it has the express keys, IPS screen and the new Huion pen and driver... It also has a proprietary cable that does the function of the USB/HDMI/power in just one cable coming from the side. Downsides... The colour accuracy is really poor, I believe it to be 70% of NSTC... parallax and no tilting functionalities. But that is it! Love your videos Brad! Keep up with the good work!

I just received mine last night.. had a few issues to start but managed to figure them out. Two things that are standing out to me while trying to create art.. 1 is that the pressure sensitivity is too sensitive really... if you don't sit your pen tip down applying the same pressure as the previous stroke, you get a wide range of sizes, blotches etc. I have played a little bit around with the configuration and tried setting the pressure to be less sensitive but hasn't mattered much. 2 is the excessive sponginess of the tip, constantly making a clicking sound with a massive impression range. I would love to hear if anyone has attempted to curve these irritations off in settings. I really want to like this tablet.

I am a hobbiest looking at possibly getting a 'cintiq alternative', and the Xp-pen Artist 16 really caught my attention for the last month or so of reading and browsing, until lo and behold, Huion releases this product. Spec wise and price wise the Kamvas seems to be better in general, but how about in performance?
@GeekedOutNeckbeard7 жыл бұрын
12463trf just be wary, there's usually too many issues with these tablets that make the price not even worth it. Get a Surface Pro 4 M3 processor or the like. Or a 4GB RAM I5 Surface Pro 4or the New Surface Pro and have more reliability, better performance and you can be mobile. The screen size, sure it is smaller but it's reliable and has good quality. These items, I don't trust, since most are sent from that company to these reviewers, so I'm not sure if they sent a good unit and then send shitty ones to their customers, but the amount of feedback on most isn't good. I'm a hobbyist but I like having quality over savings lol. So I'll save endlessly for a good quality item instead of taking an alternative route since the reviews aren't so good..

thank you for this review. I was wondering if you can also adjust the firmness of pressure sensitivity so the pen is less sensitive? Also, since there is no tilt (and i need it for doing calligraphy), what if i lay it flat on a drafting table with no stand where i can tilt it? would the wires get in the way?
@Kn1cknackz07 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm really liking your reviews and I'm going through all the ones on your website! I had some questions about the tablet, I know you touched base on some of these but I would really appreciate an updated and brutally honest opinion. First off, how's the lag like? It seems pretty quick and not too laggy, not any more lag than you'd get with a regular pen tablet and a program with *some* stability. Does it bother you at all or slow down your work flow? Lastly, I am also wondering, how is the parallax for you? So many people complain about parallax, but I honestly think people think it's a "cool" thing to complain about it, as if they know something. Major parallax can be an issue, but a little bit isn't the end of the world, especially if it still feels just as natural to draw on it and it doesn't hinder your experience in any way. *And if it is a problem,* is the XP-Pen Artist16 any better? Thank you very much for answering (if you can!), but if you don't get around to these questions, I understand as well. :) Your videos have been a great help in my quest to replace my Wacom! Haha

Technical question if you please? I have never tried digital art and this Huion GT 191 is my first venture so a VERY big learning curve for an old woman (it's all about attitude, not age). For the life of my, I cannot understand how to program the keys on the pen and which functions are the most likely to be helpful for a beginner at the very first stages of learning. I can find nothing on You Tube and the Huion information manual is exceedingly limited. Any help Brad or community?

Wobbling in any pen that uses batteries ? I'm genuinely concerned by that, and not for this specific model, but in general...could you expand on that ?
@jairobenavides80237 жыл бұрын
3polygons just look at his drawing, the lines he makes for the hair don't look perfectly smooth even though his hand movement is smooth, those same lines on an iPad pro or a Wacom would look perfectly smooth.
@3polygons7 жыл бұрын
Yep, I noticed somehow... I was fearing a confirmation for that.... then it is a no-way for me... I cannot allow that in my pro work....And refining later is huge time lost....
@thebradcolbow7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why there is wobble on the battery pens. It has something to do with how the pen input is captured and it tends to happen more on angled lines.
@3polygons7 жыл бұрын
I have a very strong suspicion that this will improve, and probably in a short period of time, seeing how fast these alternatives have evolved, as you do mention in the video, I had noticed that, too. For me, the case is simple. Is a hard world for a company dominating fully the market, right now. Of course, monopolies will keep reigning. But IMO, we are in the era of the finally "possible options". IMO, Wacom, unless some company comes with some revolutionary product and survives without being acquired, will keep being THE reference. But definitely not anymore the "only option", not even for pros (we are pretty more demanding). I am very seriously considering Yiynova, even if only for it being an excellent screen, even better in some aspects than some graphic design focused monitors. (I mean, I NEED a second monitor, so even if there's that wobbling too in the Yiynova - I have NO idea- ) I would be pretty happy with it just as a nice second monitor, only, whose color , once calibrated, at least wouldn't be too off compared with the Spectraview (or might even be more accurate, I'd never know until I get my calibrator over it...But have read from users that it excels on that. ) So... while we saw jitter in the first n-tig devices in MS tablet-laptops, and we still have it in MS Studio, I believe these Chinese and other alternatives are different stories: They are clearly worried about real evolution to professional needs. THIS is what is key. I mean, adding the function keys, strongly imrpving the drivers, improving parallax in several products, slowly ditching TFT - TN screens and put in place IPS panels or SPVA, MVA (which are inferior globally to IPSs, but better in some very specific aspects, and definitely much better than a TN. A TN is a "hello, I can't move around" situation, as some super initial screen-tablet products reviewers have been able to detect. Check those reviews complaining about the reduced angles. My bet is 9:1 that the model is a TN panel, same as when ghosting, response time is over 15ms. (to avoid confusion: TNs tend to be fast ! I just mentioned both too near. usually TNs where used in games for that, in the past. Today no one wants other than IPS, not even gamers. ) So, is a matter of keeping tuned to the alternatives, there's win-win for us in that. Even if I FINALLY purchase a newest Wacom Intuos Large instead. Investment wise, would be for me more cleverer a Yiynova... I get both a top monitor AND a replacement if my trusty Intuos 4 XL gets broken. If I am not comfortable 24/7 drawing over a screen, one can always just look at the othe rmonitor and use it as a regular wacom.... I believe that in this, the thing is really expanding and growing.... Even the non purchasing folks can get some popcorn as it promises to be interesting and entertaining, this companies fight. Same we are seeing/going to see with intel whole new range of products on the PC, starting in October and following the beginning of the year, and the Ryzens AMD has released (and the "threadripper" is yet to release by AMD... lol @ the name, I know... but the machine is going to be powerful... a bit to pricey for my range, tho. ). Sorry, I know you are more of a mobile/gadgets person.... I'm all about PCs and heavy and ugly stuff for work... :S ;)

From looking at the features, I'm not convinced that this is a tablet worth getting, even if it's cheaper. The fact that it doesn't have hotkeys is a dealbreaker for me. Also, tilt sensitivity is important and it's not something I would give up. Plus, I'm a light sketcher, so I wouldn't feel comfortable to press hard for the strokes to appear. Last, the parallax effect looks like it will be annoying.

Does this tablet needs any programs which I have to download?
@SakuOhno7 жыл бұрын
I think Huion gives you a screen protector that is already on the tablet.

Hmm, mine came with some film on it, but it was ll scratched up. I assumed it was to protect the screen during shipping.
@anab0lic7 жыл бұрын
yeah, i bet he took it off before using it, the other reviewer on YT did the same lol...
@anab0lic7 жыл бұрын
The amazon listing says it comes with a anti-glare screen protector, the matte finish of it should also give you that paper like texture when using the pen on it.

Would you recommend the KAMVAS GT-221 Pro or the KAMVAS GT-191? Thanks.
@thebradcolbow7 жыл бұрын
They are both good. Depends on what's the best fit for you, do you want the larger screen? Do you need express keys? How much do you want to spend.

My mom is buying me this for passing all my tests! *(I use the intuos express keys so anyone know how I can add express keys?)* I waned a Huion Kamvas GT-221 but since I’ve never used a tablet and only an intuos, my mom said that I had to get used to these and see if I like using Huion.

I have a few questions.... Do this tablet had to be plugged into the computer and why ???? Or I can still use it without plugged to the computer??? Or please let me know what's the best portable drawing tablet
@Te2oISR3 жыл бұрын
You have to plug it to a computer because it's just a monitor not a full computer so you can't use it without a computer. Also maybe you should check more modern tablets cause they probably better and cheaper. (Sorry if I'm late)

I see so many reviewers complaining about bottom cable placement (not specific to this tablet) saying that if you move the tablet, you run the risk of the stand wobbling on top of the cables. And I sit here wondering why none of the reviewers have thought to run the cables THROUGH the hole in the stand so they are resting on the stand instead of around or under it. I can't be the only one who has thought of that :/
@thebradcolbow7 жыл бұрын
+Jordan Cain kinda hard to describe, but the cords have to bend at an awkward angle right as they come out of where they are plugged in. So the cords aren't getting stuck under the foot at lower angles they just don't have enough room to bend and so the bottom of the tablet rests on the cords not the desk.
@Agent40547 жыл бұрын
I think I know what you mean. I figured it had to be something that I wasn't understanding having not experienced the tablet setup first hand. So then does the bottom of the tablet get warm enough to be a concern if it is touching the cables?

They are both good. what it comes down to for me is if you need the shortcut keys or not. I want the shortcut keys so I like the XP-Pen better.

How bad is the parallax in terms of mm? My gt190 was notoriously bad with that, alongside an inferior low res tn panel. This one seems to fix most my problems, but I need to know how bad the parallax is.
@thebradcolbow7 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say exactly but my guess is that it would be similar. The amount of parallax I've seen in this device is similar to what I've seen in every Cintiq type tablet up to this point.
@MegaFederation7 жыл бұрын
A ruler perpendicular to the screen might help in finding out.
