Imagine sending ransomware into a random unsecured server then realised you just committed a cyberattack against the entire galaxy

Plugging any piece of tech into the internet without protection or firewalls are the equivalent of giving that tech several forms of STD in the blink of an eye. Poor Nexsus didn't stand a chance lmfao

i laughed because it reminds me of a time i was explaining why network security was important to a senior suit. i took a windows xp based computer and plugged it into a straight internet connection with no external firewall. it took less than 10 minutes for the machine to get infected with at least three kinds of malware. i wiped the machine after the demonstration

What year it was? Would it work on win7? How have you detected this atack? I want to buy old thinkpsd and recreate this.

@@ViktorRzh 2003, windows xp. win 7 was a little later and slightly more secure. i used a process monitor to check the system and watch the stuff come in. could you recreate it today? maybe. if i had to guess, i’d guess that it would take longer because most people will be scanning for modern exploits, not twenty year old exploits. besides, who’d be foolish to put such an old OS on the internet without serious protection? *cough*

@@pauldwalker thank you. I belive it will be a pretty fun little experement. It will be fun to start own malvare collectionthis way. Like - freeze the version and then sweep files weekly to detect the catch and save for further examination.

@@pauldwalker "Could you recreate it today?" Sure you could. All you'd have to do is send that same suit an e-mail with a worm attached (or a link to a site that would trick him into downloading a worm) and some vaguely threatening bullshit about his Netflix subscription or his wife's Sephora account.

At T- 10 seconds, the Phishers had the credentials and put them up for sale on the dark web. At T-4 seconds the hardcore hackers had worms written that used the credentials, ready and waiting for the linkup. At T+1 seconds, the hardcore hackers had everything of value and posted the credentials on public pirate sites for the pranksters.

it’s called the rubber duck debugging technique. whenever you have a problem, before you go bother a senior engineer for help, you first have to explain the problem in detail to a rubber duck. what most people experience is that in the process of breaking down and explaining the problem, they usually resolve the problem themselves. it’s a very powerful and effective problem solving technique.

4chan wouldn't have even bothered with it being so easy. They thought there networks were hidden when they first met humans meanwhile they were basically broadcasting, "Secret network right here. Don't touch!" It'd look like a honeypot.

the aliens internet has almost zero security on it and would not survive contact with the human internet. humans try to tell the aliens and the aliens dont listen. a test environment is created to prove the humans point. the entire system is compromised the moment its built, and crashed within 10 seconds of being turned on. it wasnt a coordinated attack, or even publicly announced. the human internet was such a hostile environment that it killed the test *without trying to, or knowing about it*. the aliens struggle to understand but finally believe the humans

just think of it this way. their server was just like a laptop but the problem is you left the laptop in the middle of say a stadium of people without any sort of password on it. anyone and everyone can and will access it. some people are just curious others are malicious and some just are data horders who collect anything. thats just gist of the story. aliens have a computer with everything on it without a password and we just pluck everything and can control/destory everything
