@@thyroidnodule and it will go back up over time. I’m looking long term and Coca Cola is everywhere around the world. The stock is going to be hear for a very long time and it will fluctuate. But yes currently I am “loosing” money but I’m literally gaining more shares of it through the dividend payments that they pay out.

I was wondering about your thoughts of picking stocks based on your morale values or what you personally believe in. I know you are about all the numbers (or maybe not! Most of the growth will come from the appreciation of those dividend stocks, which could be a lot or a little depending on how the market is doing. You're mostly buying them for the dividend. Any bonus appreciation of the actual stock is icing on the cake.

Humphrey great video! Is there a way to study a simulated portfolio's past rate of return? For example, If I had owned these 5 top dividend stocks 5 years ago, regardless of how much I invested in them, what would have the ROI been? I know past performance is not a measure of future performance but this would still be a nice educational exercise I think!
@humphrey4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think if you go online and search for like "historical portfolio performance" and find a tool where you can enter in stocks, that would be best, I dont know any off the top of my head, but thats a fun exercise for sure. It would just require you to do some digging...
@snava39234 жыл бұрын
@@humphrey I think I found a way. I used the “holdings” tool in Yahoo Finance. Although it doesn’t put out how much money I would have made in dividends, it does show ROI on market gains. As a simulation, I bought 10 stocks (price as of January 8th, 2016) for each of the 5 companies mentioned in your video (T, KO, HD, C, JNJ). The overall portfolio return is showing 67.02%. Not bad! I am trying to position myself in a similar fashion and expect good returns in the future, aside from dividend gains which I plan to reinvest on each company as they are paid. Is this a good basic plan I can follow?
