Something movie fans will never understand is the emotional impact of the character's young age in the books, in the movies (especially the last two), they were pretty much all adults
@grahamdamberger7130
@grahamdamberger7130 2 ай бұрын
It would have been one thing if they had adults in their 30's and 40's fighting to the death as most of them would have had more experience in fighting, medicine, and weapons over their offspring. But instead the Capitol elected to send adolescents and teenagers into the arenas, meaning that while one set of parents would be happy that their child made it out alive (said child may also be dealing with PTSD and other trauma from being in the arena, which will have a long-term impact on their life moving forward), 23 others would be heartbroken that theirs did not. And this went on for 75 years until most of the Districts finally had enough and planned a rebellion, with the bombing of District 12 being the last straw. The deaths of Snow and Coin resulted in the Hunger Games coming to an end, and peace to Panem for the time being.

Yes exactly katniss was described as being 16 and looking young for her age (about 14-15). If they had a young actor it would really heighten the emotional impact on such a young child, forced to fend for her family from 9 years old then surviving the trauma of 2 hunger games, the rebellion and coins distrustfulness

@@Heejinbunny The girl who played Clove (District 2 girl), originally auditioned for the role of Katniss, but was only 15 at the time of the auditions, and was deemed "too young" for the role. @@Heejinbunnyright? Rue and Prim’s death were two of the saddest. If you ignore the fact that it was partly due to us being in Katniss’s perspective, the reason both deaths are horrifying is because both were so young. 12 and 13/14 respectively. If all the tributes looked as young as they were in the books, each death would have seemed more cruel than ever. While I love the actors’ performances in the movies, many were adults acting teens.

Something that I would also like to mention, is cloves death. In the movie, the careers are heartless killers, bad people. You don’t empathise with them. But rather in the book, you can see through the reaction of Cato to cloves death they are still people. The movies dehumanise the careers, as cold blooded killers and not as kids who want to impress their district, kids who have developed relationships with each other. Catos attempts to save clove and begging her not to leave him, reminding the audience the cruelty of the games.

I think a huge thing the films missed was how much Katniss did not care about romance. Her entire life she had to take care of herself and Prim and she always thought that out of necessity (not love) she would end up with Gale. Though after the games, he no longer understood her. Peeta was the only one who did. I believe she genuinely liked Peeta a lot, but I truly believe she only loved him because he was the only other person who truly understood her. As she and Haymitch discussed a lot, their romance was part of their survival. She used that angle so much that after Peeta was rescued from the Capitol he had to have her clarify her feelings for him because he was so confused. He meant a lot to her. But not because she was madly in love with him. But because he saved her and her family. They were basically just partners in crime and their relationship would always be tied to the games. I think it makes their story so unique. From the moment they agreed to lose the games together, they were a unit.

I disagree Katniss grew to genuinely love him by the ending of the last book when he first got kidnapped by the capitol is when she realized this and then even more after she returned to district 12. She started to slowly heal and stopped being in survival mode. She become madly in love with him because if you read the books ending she finally agreed to having kids with him even though for the longest time she didn’t want to have kids because of the trauma she faced and fear the hunger games will return. Also they had a game of confirmation of things are real or not real and when Peeta asked is her love for him real she confirmed it was real. she always thought she needed someone like gale who was hard and strong but she really needed somebody like Peeta in her life who was kind and patient in order for her to heal and fall in love.

I never read the books. But when Katniss couldn't do the "distraction video" and Finnick took her place, I remember him making it very obvious that the Capitol, or especially Snow has a habit of sending a victor that is "attractive" into some sort of prostitution only that the "customers" only payed Finnick because they felt guilty, while the real price to "borrow" such an attractive tribute was paid in favors and stuff for Snow. I also caught me wondering if that could be the reason why Johanna was so bold and when she caught Katnis' worried look she said "They can't hurt me, there is no one left that I love." (or something like that). Because how Johanna was portrait in the movies I can only imagine that Snow might have tried to sell her into prostitution also and she refused so he had to let her go, knowing that her slaughtering the people who "bought" time with her wouldn't really work out. But since I read that Haymitch's loved ones were executed for him using the force field as a weapon.. I do wonder if after refusing to be Snow's "Trophy prostitute" Johanna might also have come home, just to find out that her family was executed because of her resisting this "tradition" without knowing what would be the cost.

Theyre not always Careers though, they can be but as a district they are pretty rebellious- in Catching Fire they stopped producing seafood for the capitol which is what Katniss notices as the citizens at the party are complaining about it. 1 and 2 get special treatment and volunteer to be in the games- Finnick was 14 so I doubt he volunteered, same with Annie especially seeing how the games affected her so badly. They might team with the Careers but they arent careers in the sense that 1 and 2 are
@wolfsedo1576
@wolfsedo1576 2 ай бұрын
I think that it his of huge importance for finnick and Annie, that they were originally careers. Of course it's opinion, but I think it makes the whole point of Annie going insane way deeper. If u think that she trained for the games her whole live probably and shows how blind they were, since altough they watch the brutality on screen it's still to far away to really catch the heavines. For Finnick I think it's important to know because many people probably think he was a surprising winner against all the odds. Yes, Finnick didn't team up with the rest of the careers, but like Katniss said, in the end he was a career like the others. Altough he was just fourteen he had probably already trained for years and maybe volunteered early because he was just "arrogant". Finnick winning wasn't just the outsider poor child winning that nobody could see coming, but it was a career being trained to kill and highly supported by the capitol sponsors (trident for example) This is now a small point, since Finnick didnt went with the career pack in his games as far as i remember but: Also it helps more in form of surprising&exciting (maybe) the readers in the book, when Finnick as a career joins Katniss instead of the career pack
@littlelove13
@littlelove13 2 ай бұрын
Yes!!! Everyone always thinks ‘careers? that’s only 1 and 2’ but it’s explicitly stated so many times that 4 is also very much a career. And it’s also really important. Especially for Finnick who is the embodiment of kids being forced into this. The fact that being a career tribute, Finnick likely volunteered for his games despite being young, is frankly heartbreaking because it shows the humanisation of the career tributes because they’re not killers, they’re kids. He’d been taught to volunteer so young, to impress people, possibly seeing himself as a nobody if he didn’t and just wanting people to look at him, which is similar to Clove’s backstory that her actor created.

Yes!!! It would've made so much more sense to the audience why Katniss distrusted Finnick in the quarter quell. It also would've been more impactful to the audience when Finnick talks about being sex trafficked by the Capitol, because it shows how the "Capitol favorites" were really treated.

My headcanon is that they were the last to become careers mainly because their district didn't have as glamorous an industry as 1&2 and kinda earned their way in after several victories that the Capitol and 1&2 couldn't ignore. It also may be less important to them than the other career districts, still an honor but not as much as it would be in 1&2.

these books are so layered and so depressing but so amazing. Katniss goes through so much, starving, risking her life to poach game, volunteering and going through the Games TWICE, suffering Snow, watching Lavinia and Darius be tortured and forced to serve her, Cinna beaten in front of her, spending all of Mockingjay wondering if Effie had died, seeing her Prep Team tortured, not to mention being literally forced to murder every single person she kills. she never kills someone without knowing she absolutely HAD to. it's honestly a wonder that she ended up "okay" after everything. but i guess SC makes a point to add that her nightmares, Peeta's "episodes" never stopped. man, these were just kids.

Does anyone know how much that was changed from books to movie? In this video he says that Plutarch basically advocated for Katniss not being punished because of her severe PTSD and getting her to 12 kind of like "sweeping her killing Coin under the rug." That would mostly be necessary if in the public mind Coin's death would be the "bad deed of a confused young woman) In the movie (I think Haymitch reading Plutarch's letter to Katniss was a great way to deal with Plutarch's actors untimely death) Plutarch's letter promises Katniss that she just needs to lay low for now and will be pardoned when the time comes. That would call for making Coin's grasp for power public. It is a great difference if Katniss is found "not guilty for killing Panem's savior and new leader, because of her own PTSD. Or if she is pardoned because it is made public that Coin basically betrayed everyone and committed a war crime when she send those bombs not just in a crowd of children and civilians, but also send their own people in to be killed by the delayed, second explosion. How is that handled in the book?

From the beginning of the books I was never much of a Gale fan. Something always felt off to me about him. I was team Katniss and Peeta from the jump. But yea, MockingJay proved that Gale wasn't quite the great guy they tried to make him be. Not that he was a complete monster........and of course he didn't know that Prim would end up being one of the medics or else if he knew that I don't think he would have gone through with the bombing though it maybe wouldn't have been in his hands to stop it after it was already planned though he could have stopped Prim from being a medic if he knew she was going to be one. But yea, his vengence for the Capitol def got the best of him bringing out a bit of his dark side. It would happen that way for many people so I can't be completely a hater but I was glad Katniss ended up with Peeta. I also feel even if he hadnt been involved with creating that bomb plot, Katniss still should have ended up with Peeta cause she went through two games with him. An experience that Gale could never ever understand and relate to and Peeta would always understand the trauma from it so it made their bond unbreakable

Thanks for making this video! I always forget how books were so much more real. We got be in the head of Katniss navigating thru the world and I think that is what made it unique. And just the thoughts she had unlike other stories. I remember listening to an audiobook and it was sooo different as I imagined what was going on while listening. However the melody of the song that J Law sang I much preferred haha

I haven't seen the first video yet. But what about how the girl from 4 survived the blood bath, and died to the Trackerjackers with Glimmer. Also in the 2nd book, it mentioned Wolf and Celcilia from District 9. It also Said that Celcilla had 3 young kids.

I've only read one hunger games book which was catching fire, it was REALLY GOOD I LOVED IT. I read it in two days but I had it for atleast 2 terms, I had borrowed it from my school library and I wasn't bothered enough to actually read it until I watched the series and then I watched it. the books give so much detail it's crazy! I can imagine the scene where Plutarch shows katniss his watch. I have watched the movie series atleast 17 time😅😅😅😅 I know that is a ton but as a hunger games fan its my duty to watch the series at least 17 times. TYSM FOR MAKNG THIS VID IT IS THE BESTTTT

some things movie fans wouldn't know that I'd include in a video: 1. Katniss was really small and scrawny for her age. Because Jennifer Lawrence was already like 20 when she was cast, physically fit, and taller than Josh Hutcherson, this didn't get across that well. But in the books the Careers are described as having a lot on her physically, whereas in the movie that's not really the case, and it really made a difference in the fight scene with Clove because Isabelle Fuhrman was only 15 at the time and she's *actually* tiny. 2. We didn't learn Marvel's name until Catching Fire where Katniss learned it on the Victory Tour, and it was really impactful because she was learning that this boy that she personally murdered had both a name and a family. The entire time he was referred to as the boy from District One. But in the movie, he's referred to as Marvel from the beginning. 3. The boy from District 10 in the 74th Games was disabled, described as having a "crippled leg", but despite that, he actually made it pretty far. 4. Katniss was considering Foxface as a potential ally. 5. Foxface laughing while standing in the rubble of the Careers' supplies after Katniss blew them up. Honestly, that would have been such a good moment to include for her, because in the movie we see her as being more stealthy yet timid, rather than being sly. 6. Katniss almost died of dehydration in the first days of the 74th Games. In the movie, they cut out several days and had the Careers teamed up with Peeta and chasing her up a tree happen on that first night, but she actually spent a couple days trying to find water to no avail first. The forest fire led her to fresh water, and if I remember correctly, she realized it was likely on purpose once she reached the water? 7. Haymitch was from the Seam, or at least looked like it. They cast Woody Harrelson in the role and he was great, but he was described as having olive skin and dark hair like Seam people. 8. District 12 itself had a class hierarchy. Movie watchers assume that all of 12 is just dirt poor, but there's a distinct class hierarchy even within the district, where the mayor's family lives comfortably, and there's a merchant class (like Peeta's family, and Mrs. Everdeen's family before she married Mr. Everdeen), and then the Seam is the lower class, with families like the Everdeens and the Hawthornes. This is a big part of why Katniss doesn't really trust Peeta at first either because she thinks he probably views her as beneath him. 9. In Catching Fire, Cecelia from District 8 had three kids who all clung to her and cried when their mother was reaped again, and it was really sad. 10. The fight scene with Clove in the book was BRUTAL. In the movie it was a lot more subdued and even had this weird sexual tension to it that wasn't there at all in the book. Clove even punched Katniss' windpipe, Katniss spat blood all over her face, and stuff like that. It kinda ruined it for me because they played into the aspect of showmanship for the audience that the books were explicitly condemning. 11. Piggybacking off of that, Thresh smashed Clove's head in with a rock rather than slamming her into the Cornucopia, so it was way bloodier. Also, he overheard Clove taunting her about Rue, but he didn't know what Katniss had done like in the movies. Katniss was stammering as she explained it to him, and that's when he let her go. He didn't just magically know like in the movies. 12. There was a large field that was considered Thresh's territory in the Games, and the Careers had their camp set up by a lake, not by the Cornucopia. 13. Cato was being mauled alive for HOURS by the mutts before Katniss mercy-killed him, and she was afraid that Peeta wouldn't make it that long since he was so badly injured and they were both freezing to death. Katniss described it as being for nearly 12 hours I think, but this could have been an exaggeration.

What about Johanna's family and loved ones being executed by Snow when she refused to be prostituted to the Capitol after her Games? Haymitch remarked how he was held up as an example to '"The Finnicks, Cashmeres and Johannas" about what happened when the Capitol was defied. Johanna refused to let Snow sell her body, so everyone she loved was killed.
