I've heard of this game but never seen it until now. Seems well constructed enough but certainly could have used a little more constructive efforts. I think it looks great all things considered, shame I sold my Dreamcast. I liked your mention of the lightning in Final Fantasy 10, that was horrible. I am not joking when I say I was shaking and my head was involuntarily twitching to the side when I finished that nonsense.

The people out there that love this game really love it, but I just couldn't get past the flaws that made the basics tough to manage. It's gorgeous and sounds amazing though... that part of the experience I was quite happy with. I played Final Fantasy X when it was new (I got it for my 16th birthday along with a PS2) and it was my first turn-based RPG. The first time I'd heard of such a thing as an ultimate weapon, and the first time I'd been thrown through a wringer trying to obtain such things... it's a much more fond memory for me since I fell madly in love with the game, but the Lightning Plains will always be this weird time suck that I'll think back on, scratching my head and wondering if there was a better way.
@RetroPerspective4 жыл бұрын
@@hungrygoriya They could have made it less of a seizure trap by attaching it to a mini game in an alternate version of their initial dungeon mechanic. I remember playing the game when it was new at the age of 17. I loved it, and the Thunder Plains remains one of my favorite places. But after that mini game whenever I returned to the game I would intentionally let myself get zapped and close my eyes for the flash. I wanted no part of dodging anything again. In retrospect what I love about the game, despite a few superfluous characters and obvious crunch time-induced flaws, is it dared to make the player sad. Not only does it contain a number of core facets of a Shakespearean tragedy, but nothing good happens to anyone in that game. Few RPGs tried to do that before FF10.

Wow, I'm surprised by some of the problems you had with this game, for me it had the right amount of puzzles, not too many, seeing dark pits and what you can climb or not was the most obvious thing for me. I agree with you about the Wired Arm but surprised that it was frustrating to you, since it never led me to fall or to receive damage from enemies and it's so easy to position yourself right for it to work that it was never a problem, and the moment at 6:16 just made me laugh because I imagined you in an infinite loop trying to get to the right place XD. Enemies do a lot of damage, so you should enter a room or climb and descend stairs already in spindash form to kill them quickly, since it only takes like 2 or 3 hits to kill most of the enemies, and the upgrades are basically rewards from exploring. This game is literally like a Zelda game
@hungrygoriya4 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah, I know. I feel like a lot of my issues with this game came from the way I was playing it, which was mostly trying to conserve my health since I kept getting my butt kicked so much. I rarely used the spin dash attack since it seemed counterintuitive to "waste" health (there was no way in hell I was getting the eco spinner), but I think if I had relied on it more, it might've made the experience a lot better for me. And I was stuck going around and around in that part for at least a few minutes trying to get where I needed to go. Something about this whole game just didn't click with me :D I always really personalize my reviews too, so it comes across a bit on the negative side, especially when I struggled to get through as much as I did here. I've played a lot of Zelda too so I have no idea where my disconnect was... sigh.
@yanbelmiro79614 жыл бұрын

I think it's still worthwhile playing it as long as you play with a guide so you're not wondering what to do next all the time. That was the biggest problem I ran into. And if you want to sink in the time for the ecospinner to have a fighting chance at fighting, of course. But you're very welcome! Thanks for checking it out.

Pop it in for the music at least. It can invoke such a sublime nostalgic feeling.

I'm so glad I passed it up back in the day, but I'm happy as a collector to have it for its music. Back then I would've felt burned, but something about the cover and screenshots at the time said to back away to me. Time Stalkers fooled me but resulted in a quick return. That made me more scrutinizing.

The soundtrack in this game is hands down the best part. I really love the visuals too... but yeah, you definitely had the right feeling. Everywhere I heard about EGG online was highly praising it, and I fell for it... And thanks for the tip on Time Stalkers. I'll keep that in mind!
