I was bitten four times at once by a Black Widow. Symptoms are similar to a heart attack. I had trouble breathing, chest pain, nausea, sweating. When I made it to the Emergency Room I had a fever well over 105°. Every muscle in my body was screaming in agony, my tummy was in severe pain. I was given vial after vial of antivenom. I spent months in the hospital due to being paralyzed. I couldn't even breathe on my own. After months of intense therapy very slowly the feeling started returning. I still have issues with side effects. When I have a fever my legs suffer excruciating pain. And convulsions.

That's pretty hectic what you say that happend to you. I did extremally lot of work with spiders with publications included and never heared, nor seen such a case. In the first place, most people(75%) bitten by L. mactans and other highly venomous Latrodectus species (most of them are actually not that harmful) do not get the sympthoms you mention, called latrodectism, so the bite with envenomation ended up with local pain, however, if you will suffer from latrodectism and get an antivenom, all cases I studied and I studied pretty much everything documented, do not ever go above 10 days. When it comes to not getting antivenom treatment, this can either end up with dying(still extremally rare) or with latrodectism elongeted up to weeks, but not months. Your case is super extraordinary. Any chance thst you got some medical documentation of it?
@summerrainsong7506
@summerrainsong7506 7 ай бұрын
@@poower7 yes that's true, I had severe complications as well. The fact antivenom had to be flown in did not help. I was bitten on the upper chest while cleaning up Tornado Debris. I thought I had been stung at first. But it didn't take long to realize something much worse had happened. Trouble breathing, intense chest pain, sweating, nausea, by the time I got to the hospital a fever over 105. Doctors trying to figure out what happened. Blood work was done a toxicologist consulted and finally told it was a Black widow. 4 bites. So then antivenom had to be flown in. A serious infection requiring surgery drain tube and eventually skin grafts. But it was being paralyzed and life support that was so traumatic.

Miller, your latest video is an absolute thrill ride through the wilds of Australia! Your daring quest to uncover the secrets of the world's most venomous spiders, the Funnel-Web and RedBack, left me on the edge of my seat the entire time! Your keen eye for adventure and exploration is unmatched, and your ability to capture the essence of each encounter is truly captivating. And stumbling upon a Freshwater Stonefish? Simply genius! Your videos are a beacon of excitement and discovery, and I eagerly anticipate each new adventure you share with us. Keep shining bright, Miller! ✨🕷️

Nice video! In terms of venom, there are actually 2 other species of Funnelweb (both tree dwelling) that are potentially more medically significant than Atrax robustus (Sydney Funnelweb). The largest is the Northern Tree Funnelweb (Hadronyche formidabilis) which can grow to twice the size of the Sydney Funnelweb and is found not far outside of Brisbane so would have saved you a longer trip :)

When we rented a place in St Ives, Northern Sydney, a few years ago we started seeing Sydney Funnel Webs frequently. Called a Spiderman and sent him through the pics of what we found in the kitchen etc. His response was honest and blunt, he said "mate I could take a couple hundred $ from you and spray outside etc, but no point, they will come back. Just don't put your hand in a dark hole or put shoes on you've left outside without checking first. Also they are great at controlling pests and no-one has died from them since 1996." Thanks sir now i have OCD checking everything lol.

One of the things I love about this channel is variety. It would be easy to focus on the bigger, more extreme animals, like sharks and crocs. Miller is fascinated by all aspects of life and this often creates situations where he's up close and really personal with a lot of different species. He is showing and teaching us about animals we typically wouldn't know much about, large and small, and all for our viewing pleasure. Great channel.

Great documentary young man, you have presented your video well. My only point that I disagree is stepping on a stone fish it's my understanding that You have a good chance of dying if you don't get antivenom in time. You made it like a mild bee sting. However this is a great show and filmed it in a gorgeous setting. Wish I was there with fishing equipment..

When I was 7, I was playing in the waters edge at Lake Macquarie with my Aunt. I felt something on my leg and told her as I was immediately concerned. She dismissed it as seaweed. Seconds later, she playfully threw me over her body into the water….and when she did, the “seaweed” landed right onto her back/shoulder. After 20minutes she was rushed to hospital in an ambulance and it was told to me that a Blue Ringed Octopus had stung her. She luckily survived and was featured in the news. Not to say I’m glad it bit her, but at my age and tiny size…..who knows. Funnily enough, I was talking to a curator at the Brisbane Science Museum and she (quite assuredly) informed me that Blue Rings do not inhabit that area. I politely and assuredly told her otherwise……❤

I always get creeped out about Spiders. But I love to see them. I went to Australia years ago with my husband. We first spent a few days in Sydney then we went to Cape Tribulation for about 4 Gladys I believe. Then we went to Cairns. We went out on a catamaran to Michales Cay. I sat there in the sand while my husband snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef. I had bird poo all over me. We left my wheelchair on the boat. Then we went on a submarine. It was tricky for us getting in it but we did. Was really good cool! Anyways did lots more things. But I was never scared of spiders or snakes. I held a baby snake that was handed to me to hold. At Cape Tribulation in the building where we had dinner. You look up at the ceiling there were huge spider balls everywhere. I loved seeing everything. At one place a fox bat climbed on me. It was a kind of a zoo in Cairns. He was really cute. I had forgotten how big the funnel spider is. Really cool to look at. Look forward to your next video. 😊😊😊

Let’s put the whole “everything in Australia is trying to kill you”, especially spiders and snakes, into perspective. Some Australian facts: * On average, there are only TWO deaths per year from snake bite (from a population of almost 27 million). * In the last 40+ years there has only been ONE recorded death in Australia from spider bite. *If you are unlucky enough to get bit, anti venom is very widely available. Meanwhile in the USA: * There were approx 640 mass shootings in the USA in 2023 (mass shooting = 4 or more people shot, either killed or wounded). *That works out to approx 1.75 mass shootings per day. * There were 40,000+ firearm related death in the USA in 2023. * In the USA there are MORE firearms than people! Being an Aussie, guess which country I’m going to be safer in? And it ain’t Merica!! Cheers,

I have Redbacks and white tail spiders at my place but the Sydney funnel web is frightening the way they Just go in protect mode fangs out my friend lives in Sydney and she was telling me that they were good steel Cap boots everywhere they go and theye tuck all their clothing in at night when going to bed so if a funnel web spider goes in their bed its harder to crawl under their pants wow and they also put their shoes in a big bag and zip it up at night so the spiders dont go inside their shoes

That creek system is gorgeous! Forget the spiders, just hike up it - away from humanity, bring a book, a notepad and pencil, something healthy to snack on and just sit beside it all day and watch how the light and shadows change as the sun arcs across the sky. That would be a very good day.

That is the prettiest funnel web spider I’ve ever seen. Could that be a freshly shed one to have those red looking fangs? Either way great video Miller 👍

I was told by my first aid instructor about a year ago that if we were bitten by a red back, to not bother calling an ambulance because there's relatively little harm it can do to you; just a small red bump and a bit of pain apparently. I'm curious if others have encountered the same advice?
