He should have went with different thermostat. I guess the only downside to this is he has to “emergency heat “. Good work man.

We offered him what he needed for it to work properly, but he wanted to use what he bought.

Gas is almost always cheaper than electric heat pump for heat, and using the heat pump doubles the run time and work cycle of the compressor and associated components. Seems like a weird choice to me. The only advantage I can see is you can always switch back and forth if market prices get out of whack. Or if there are supply issues.

What is the part number that would be a good truck stock

OT18-60A, We get them at Johnstone Supply their part number is L42-042 2 pole low volt mechanical thermostat

We also use them on older units to set an outdoor temp lockout for heat strips on heat pumps. Just run the Aux from the thermostat to the switch and then back to the heat strips.
