Not inherently a bad option, just be careful! Saw this done on an engine that came to an old shop I worked at after a cam swap at another shop that then caused an oil light. They didn't realize a chunk of zip tie had broken off when cutting and clogged an oil return passage

That's why you look over and double check. I have been doing this since 1997 when I was racing Motocross and never had a issue.

So what caused the valves to burn up? Clogged cat?
@derekbuilt776110 ай бұрын
Lack of valve adjustment and the head gasket was kicking out. It was taking in coolant in the cylinder and it caused this issue.

Looks like the valve was too sharp getting hot easily. Could be an intake leak or combination. 150,000 miles isn't much unless there's something else wrong.

I remember installing coil suspension springs that way using old bicycle chain rather than zip ties... Your deal is much safer.

Nice and thank you bud!

didn't know valve springs were that light .

You are dealing with some Bic pen springs there. BWAAHAHAHA

Awesome. Do you know anybody who can swap an engine? Put a Toyota Corolla engine in a Hyundai Veloster? My Veloster is in great condition but the engine is a time bomb.

It doesn't work like that. JS

❤ The video. Thank you for sharing. Question - did you need to have the seat cut or did you lap in the valves? Where you replacing with OE valves? Basically, how did you get them to seal?
@derekbuilt776110 ай бұрын
I had the machine inspect the valve seats and everything checked out. I lapped them in and now it's back to 200psi in that hole
@mpeg4me10 ай бұрын
@@derekbuilt7761 that's awesome. It's rare the valve looks like that and the seat survives. Good work.

I wonder if it’ll work on 648 in/pound roller springs?
@AlysaDunn-r6o10 ай бұрын
well that's 54 ft-lbs and it's easy to get zip ties rated for 250 pound tensile strength.

Wonder if this’ll work with suspension springs too? Think I’ll try it. I’ll let you know how I get on - if I can still type 😂

Instead of a bag of zip ties just buy a bar clamp and a socket. Cut the socket open for installing the keepers, drill a hole in a stationary jaw, bolt the socket to it bam, you've got yourself a spring compressor for 10-20 bucks
@derekbuilt776110 ай бұрын
I have done that as well but this way you never have a keeper flying across the room 😁
@sinsilius10 ай бұрын
Haven't had any flying yet 🤞 but I totally see how it might happen 😁
