I built shoes that turn you into Aquaman. They let you walk on water and cruse around below the surface. They're built using massive electric motors and propellers mounted to the user's leg. With enough practice it's possible to jump out of the water and cruse along the surface!

In high school, I recall a book by Brandon Sanderson in a series about super powered people where the main character was given a water jet pack made using the cells of a water manipulator. It was meant to allow him to fly around the city, but was incredibly difficult to use, as while it had 3 thrusters on his feet and hand, the other hand had to stay pointed towards water for him to stay up. Before he learned to fly with it, he used it in much the same way as you used your leg thrusters. You have made my child self very happy good sir, and I appreciate that

Simply incredible engineering and just on a whim and it worked SO well! My suggestion would be to add some sort of intuitive vectoring so when you change your CG it precisely amplifies a counter vector/force. I can see these becoming fairly common place; the nearest neighbor is a Seabob, but THIS is way more fun. This video deserves WAY more views. I use a scubatow for snorkeling, but it only gives you maybe 2 mph and takes both hands. Having it foot mounted is brilliant and the underwater shots of just forward motion at speed were incredible.

Even just the water boots he made alone would be great. Plenty of fun to be had. While adding scuba would be cool. It adds tons of other aspects that need to be taken into account. You need training and a license to be able to scuba dive. Also a lot of dangers it can add. The boots alone though I can see being very successful.
@BenCDawson
@BenCDawson 2 жыл бұрын
@@Vegeta8300 I agree the boots alone would be awesome. I definitely see how scuba gear and a DPV would add complication, dangers and specified requirements, I was thinking in terms of entertainment and extreme sport, layers make the activity more engaging/interesting to watch, a professional sport requiring those extra qualifications and acknowledgement of the risks
@BenCDawson
@BenCDawson 2 жыл бұрын
@Carey I think if races were held in mapped areas without any obstacles that could snag equipment the danger would only be slightly higher than scuba diving, covers can prevent the diver from coming into contact with any of the propellers, ideally they would also be wearing a special suit made to reduce drag and keep the tubes/tanks held in place, I always encourage and support proper safety precautions but every extreme activity carries risk

@@BenCDawson I hear ya. I think I was coming from an everyday person using these boots. Where you were thinking more of a professional using them. Picture this - a full on propeller suit that lets you move in water just like you can outside it. No more sluggish underwater movements, the suit will make it feel as if there isn't any water to begin with! And the great thing about it is that it would in a way make you feel as if you can fly. Edit: Just for clarification - you know the feeling when you try to punch or slap something underwater and the movement is very sluggish because of the water resistance - the suit would eliminate that water resistance thanks to propellers on each limb.

Unfortunately, even if every limb had propellers that could respond fast enough, there would still be that very same resistance against every other surface. It has not been negated, it has been overpowered... there are reasons that most fish and other creatures that live in the water are hydrodynamic, they have to work against that resistance as well and so they minimize the detriments and maximize the benefits of the denser medium. As Scotty would say, "Ya kinna break theh laws of physics!"

I like the design where the propulsion is directly below the feet, instead of attached to the leg. I feel like that's a clever way to use our leg structure to support the upwards weight of the water being propelled. That being said, the axle is way to long for the speed it's rotating at. You should reinforce it with more bearings along the length of the rod, if you're going to improve upon this design. Also, please add a mesh in the "walls" and bottom of the propeller "cage", so nothing can get stuck and ripped off in it. If you're going to iterate the design, perhaps try to conceal the propeller, so it looks more like a jet engine instead of this "free-floating boat engine" looking thing. The "jet" design would allow you to add a nozzle (so perhaps you could gain extra lift without delivering more power) and you'd gain control over the position of the water intake point. That means you could take water from below the motor, so the motor could be above water, thus making you hover at a higher altitude. Finally, as others have said better than me, a battery backpack could offer benefits over having the batteries strapped directly to the contraption (less mass at the legs = more maneuverability, a centralized power delivery could mean a centralized control solution, you could more easily put the batteries on a boat and hovering indefinitely, at the cost of having a big long wire hanging off you in the water)
@DeezNuts-uk7xz

you should make a infinite finger water gun, you can condense the air into water and use pressure to release that water like a gun from your hand

Imagine if you strapped the battery pack to your back that way you make the chassis on the feet smaller and easier to maneuver and even perhaps encase the module entirely to lower its drag in the water while leaving small intakes in the case for the water to flow in to while the propellers are active it’ll also be safer as it will leave less of the machinery exposed.
