I Could Have Died!!!!!

I nearly died after a K&N oil filter exploded hot oil all over my rear wheel!!!

I have a Sprint ST '08 and as soon as I read about this on the Triumph forum must be about 6 years ago, I ditched the K&N filter I'd just put on my bike and replaced it with a Hi-Flo one WITHOUT a nut. Never had a problem getting filters off anyway as I never over tightened them. I think I was sucked into buying one on price as they may have been sale! The nut on the end is a solution to a problem that never existed creating an even worse problem. I don't use K&N air filters either. I emailed K&N at the time and about 3 weeks later I got a shitty response saying the 204 filter I had was not subject to a recall and no I wouldn't be re-imbursed. It was already in the bin anyway as I wasn't taking any chances. What a shit company.

This exact thing happened to me twice on a different bike (ZZR600) - Luckily for me i was going slow and filtering at the time, big pain in the ass though!! K&N are rubbish!

Good to know, I swapped to standard due to price but don’t think I’ll be using k&n after this!!! Did you ever contact them about it ?

How you didn't come off. What did you do with your tyres. I would have been tempted to replace them if they were that badly covered with oil.

RevvedUpBiker just cleaned it off!! Read all over the internet just to clean them off then treat as a new tyre and run in again!

But doesn't oil on the tyre degrade it?... that's what I've always thought.

RevvedUpBiker what is rubber? It’s basically oil in another form! Maybe prolonged soaking would affect it???

Where did you get those frame plugs? R&G sell some but they are £12 each!
