@@mrantisocialismo I doubt that facts will penetrate, but...the US had *higher* GDP growth last year under President Biden than in 2019, Trump's last year pre-Covid. In fact, for the four calendar quarters ending March 2024, the US had higher GDP growth than *any other* G7 nation. In 2019 under Trump, US farm bankruptcies hit an *eight year high,* figures we hadn't seen since the Great Recession. Under President Biden, farm bankruptcies are currently *at a two decade low.* Speaking of historic lows, under President Biden US unemployment has been *below 4% two years in a row* for the first time since the *Vietnam war.* The Dow, the S&P 500, and the NASDAQ have been taking turns setting all time record highs for months, with this week going to the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ. The US produces more petroleum and petroleum products than it consumes; we are a net petroleum and petroleum product *exporter.* Last year the US pumped more oil than Saudi Arabia. We are the worlds leading exporter of liquefied natural gas as well. Inflation is currently *below* the US historical average, and is lower than it was when Ronald Reagan was reelected while boasting about "Morning in America." You were saying about "the economy…?"

I had the chance to test the Ioniq5N for a little bit on city streets recently and even driving fairly slow, I laughed like a crazy person. It is so different than any other EV, it is mindblowing. It basically makes itself slower by going through gears and hitting the rev limiter to emulate a gas powered car, but that makes it so much more communicative. And since it got crazy instant EV torque, even in "dumb down mode" it feels and probably is faster and more powerful than an equal gas powered car. It is a driving experience unlike anything else.

@@_Chev_Chelios Well, it is not totally BS, since emulating hitting the rev limiter and changing gears are physical experiences that affects the driving, experience and performance. But I guess it is BS in that you can turn it all off and drive it like any other EV if you want. But it does add something to the driving experience.

I have thought about this for a while and pleasantly surprised to see it materialized. The next steps are to let you customize the torque curve and red line to simulate different types of engines, e.g. V12, flat-6, V8, turbo, normally aspirated, etc. Then I would love to see someone do it with a true manual transmission. For this all they need to do is simulate an idle and a fake stall. If you want to drive in normal EV mode, just leave the clutch out and shift into third (or a special 1:1 "EV gear") and drive like normal though they may need to feather in the torque a bit to save the clutch. It should be relatively easy. They already did the hard part which is to simulate torque output. I'm sure someone in the comments will say, just buy an ICE car with a manual. Well, I already have 3 of those, but I would like to see this in EVs for future proofing. Also, if it is implemented really well and you literally can't distinguish the difference from the driver's seat then it would be a whole lot cheaper to buy and more importantly maintain an EV with 600hp-800hp vs a gas-powered one.

Most reviews from US market fail to mention the 0.6g regen braking that actually lowers the battery temperature of 5n. It is a huge technological achievement that enables its consistant track performance with a conventional iron rotor brake set up. Non-track version of Plaid overheats its brake system within the first lap of any track and Taycan gt has PCCB that would only last a few days of track sessions. I am really excited Hyundai is sponsoring its first year of 5n cup race in South Korea this year and the future sport EV model it will bring to the market.

Being able to control weight transfer is what makes performance driving fun. To control weight transfer, you need to be able to slam G forces. It’s quicker to achieve weight transfer through rapid gearing steps than through micromanaging throttle. What Hyundai has done is utilized Regen as the mechanism for rapid G force changes. You also need feedback on the digital equivalent of the RPM set point, and there is no better feedback than sound, because sound is parametric. If it’s silent, you have no idea where it is. If you have to look at gauges due to absence of sound, then you can’t look at your path. We’re human, so sound is excellent for real-time feedback in performance driving.

I mean... the Charger EV is supposed to start production within the next few months, so it's not like they're THAT far apart (considering that Hyundai hasn't actually started shipping these yet either). I live in the Detroit area and have seen plenty of pre-production test mules running around without camo, so they're obviously getting pretty close. Ultimately very different vehicles, however. The Charger is a bit of a behemoth, and I doubt it'll be setting any track records with its size and weight.

@purplehazeffc

Fake gears aren’t stupid. On track they help with carry max speed through corners. IE the Corkscrew, if you know it’s a 2 gear corner, you use the gears so you know when your in 2nd gear without needing to look at the speed your doing. The principle is exactly how it’s used in sim racing.

Good middle step. I'd like the next phase to be sound design that provides feedback and engagement but also is authentic to an EV (no fake gears slowing it down). It will take a while to define what an enthusiast EV should be. Kudos to Hyundai for trying some new things, but this approach is always transitional -- I'm curious to see where we go once everyone gets used to driving EVs quickly.
