It sounds like she wanted a divorce from him but not his money..it also sounded like they have no kids..apparently he was willing to pay what he is just to be rid of her..she apparently wants to keep the lifestyle she had when married to him but now can't afford it..when I got divorced I didn't even ask for spousal support..all I asked for was child support and that wasn't even extreme..it was based on both our incomes

Why should you feel bad for this man he doesn’t exist. This is scripted because there’s no way a television show has the ability to alter an existing divorce decree. There’s absolutely no way they can do it without him consenting to being on the show, which he would’ve had to do for them to even have an episode. And also just look at the amount she’s asking for, $250,000. Any courtroom show that is actually “Real“ is only going to adjudicate a small claim to the amount of $5000 and not a penny above. Why? Because the show pays the judgment otherwise there would be no way to enforce it. And there’s no way a TV show is going to pay for $250,000 a month in alimony. Sorry but you’re feeling bad for a figment of somebody’s imagination in a case that doesn’t exist.

Depends on how long they were married. If they were married 20+ years, its common that she would get 50%. I think she's confused in how things work, if he is stalking her, then she could bring a civil case against him, but it has nothing to do with their divorce settlement. While 2 years sounds long, often in toxic relationships, bad feelings & behaviors can continue on for years. She could always rent out rooms in her home to create extra income.

I never understood the value of a prenup. After seeing things like this they make perfect sense. Go into a marriage with a contract so the exit is cleaner in the end. In a world where women are screaming for equality they should be able to support and take care of themselves. It use to be said the support was so she could maintain a standard of living equal to that during the marriage. Isn't he entitled to have the same standard of living after the divorce. Not sure I see the equality in this.

Unbelievable! I could live for 13 years on $250,000.00 Actually no that's wrong, I could live longer considering the rate exchange between the US and Canada. After my divorce I fast tracked back home to Canada to answer the urge I buried for years. But I used money my late mother left to me to get back home. I didn't want anything from the ex but he did give me back the money we spent on buying the house as the money from my mother bought it. He took out a loan to buy the house on his own. I didn't even want communication with him. But I was able to find a job in my tiny hometown with hardly any work available and lived on that just fine. Now that I'm retired, I get US Social Security as I did work when I lived in the US and I get a pension from Canada as well. I don't understand these entitled divas/karens! Spoiled little brats!

Heh, I think it says a lot about her and her values saying "They need increases. Women living on their own? It's hard." You do know some of us choose not to marry, right? Or we choose to cohabitate but keep finances separate. The latter seems a lil unrealistic, but still. She seems to think that a man should take care of a woman her whole life (or his, whichever comes first). I don't even understand why spousal support is a thing. @@juanitasullivan3372 I lived with my mom due to us both being disabled. We chose to take care of each other. She passed away and I now live alone. I agree that I am perfectly content living alone. I'm not the type to say "never" as far as marrying/cohabitating, but I would need a LOT of convincing. The same is a bit true of the "boyfriend" deal. A person needs to be something excellent to convince me out of my current lifestyle as it's quite comfortable. @@LadyTsuki I hear you and we're all different and that's ok. Sorry about your Mom. I believe my loving being alone now comes from a lifetime of trying to make others happy. Doing what others expect of me and so on. I actually grew up believing I was stupid because it's all I heard from my parents. Since I believed it, I didn't try to be anything but stupid and make stupid decisions with my life. Life never went well due to my belief.........till I landed a plane by myself in flight school. That changed everything for me. I later walked out of an abusive marriage, got my freedom and I cherish it. I guess some would call me set in my ways because I refuse to budge now on living alone, but it took years to get to this mindset and I'm actually happy and content. I've turned to writing (under a pen name) have been published, do what I want when I want. But this is just me. Not everyone can live like me and be happy.

I am glad you've found out you're not dumb and you have talent. I find not many people learn that, sadly. I don't blame you for being "set in your ways" given past experience. Here in New Zealand, once you're divorced & a property split has occurred, there's no spousal support. If there are kids, there might be child support payments made to IRD. But once you're divorced, that's it, you've got your life back be responsible for it, instead of mooching off your ex.

As someone currently going through divorce, this is painful. My husband attacked me in front of our 6 year old. The fact that I had to jump through so many hoops just to get a temporary restraining order from a violent alcoholic just shows what people like this do to the system. I guess the fact that he has voluntarily been unemployed for 2 years and all he does is drink, piss, sleep, and hurt me doesn't immediately warrant a restraining order. People like this make me sick.

Unfortunately history dictates that at least half of what you're claiming is false. I know that my ex made very similar claims - including physical assault against me when the truth of the matter is in our twenty years together, I can count on less than one hand how many times I raised my voice to her, nevermind my hands. Not to mention, we never had a single domestic issue until AFTER I filed for divorce from HER. Hmm, how does that saying go?

@@rurounisena Chances are I'm being a bit harsh, but getting totally screwed in court by a pathological liar who did nothing to contribute to the household with three kids was a bitter pill to swallow. You want a restraining order on this dude, but you expect him to give you money? Am I the only one who sees this as messed up? For someone who hates their husband, she sure knows a lot about his life and his money , she has been awarded the house, it's nearly paid off, why the hell do you need more money, let alone a 100$? What's so big about another 100$? I feel like she is just doing this to pick at this guy. I love how this judge handled this money hungry Karen. She got 250,000$, where the hell did all the money go in 2 years , if she blew all that money she certainly doesn't need more. If she was given the house, and it's almost payed off, and on top of that she got 250,000$, why do you need more money? Where the hell did all that go?

At least this judge was fair, when I was first watching this I cringed because I thought the increase in spousal maint was going be approved! So glad there are courts out there that are actually pretty fair, I have never seen a guy come out of a divorce without being financially devastated. Thank goodness this judge isnt crooked. It always struck me as odd when men would marry more than once, every divorce I have ever seen has awful for everyone but more so for the dude.

I'm in England, I left the mother of my daughter because she was screwing a 14y/o , I had my own house solely in my name (it was mine before she moved in ) , I couldn't take anymore so l left , it turns out that I had no right to my daughter or my house in 1996 , my mother had more rights to see my daughter than I did , my ex told my mother that if she let's me see my daughter my ex would stop every member of my family from ever seeing her again, then apart from the ex living rent free in MY house I also had to give her 33% of my wages , the money I took home i was basically on dole money , I could of given up working and been £40 a week better off but I was a worker I couldn't sit at home doing nothing I lost everything and the lies my daughter was told means she hates me and wants nothing to do with me , also my family is the same so I sit at home with my dogs and just survive with no family around me

There was a case in England where the ex-wife went to court for the right to sue her husband for more money. It was at least 10 years after they divorced and he'd started a business that was successful and made him a multi millionaire. She won the right to go after him for money but I never saw if she managed to get anything from him. Goes to show you can never really be free of them as long as you still have any money for them to grab.

Listen to me very carefully, gentlemen because what I’m going to say is as serious as death. Don’t ever get married. Avoid it at all costs. Have a kid or two but don’t ever go into a legal marriage contract ever in your life! It’s a rigged game and not even close to being in your favor. I mentioned “serious as death” because marriage can very well be a death sentence for you. Stay single and enjoy the fruits of your hard work and labor. You’ll thank yourself later on in life for it.
