He wasn't talking / speaking for ME . I don't use racial slurs , and " you people " was a slur . If he " WAS " speaking for you , I have a wish for you . That wish is , that you wind up having a person of color come to your family ... or that some one in your family comes out of the closet . My wifes family ( brothers - father ) were habitual users of racial N word slurs /// ... and we fought over that more than once ...then one of the boys married a girl as black as coal ... they had to learn to become human beings . That's a future lesson for people that he was speaking for .

If there would have been a chance to wear poppys whatsoever, i would have done that proudly to show appreciation to a country where i had a chance to live in. My students in China ALL memorize “In Flanders Fields” and I give them a poppy to wear that I bring from Canada! The reason?...140,000 Mainland Chinese were in Flanders in WWI. Many died but because they were Chinese, neither the Allies nor the Germans wanted Chinese buried in their cemeteries, so they were buried out in the fields. When China opened its doors to the world a number of years ago, France was the first to jump on board by letting the Chinese know that they had dug up all the remains of the Chinese who had died and finally put them in a cemetery just for them. The information was NOT full heartedly received by the Chinese because they had always denied the existence of Chinese being on the front in Flanders fighting for the Allies and Democracy! If any mention of it were made in Chinese publications, like most things the CCP does not want their people to know, it is simply purged from the documents. Kinda like being unable to find anything on Tiananmen in Chinese texts!..it’s ALL gone! Once I did my power point presentation on the Chinese in Flanders, the students became genuinely interested in the subject and their recitations of the poem clearly showed a spirit in them I had never seen before! Our ceremony never glorified war but shed light on the thousands of Chinese who lost their lives in a war where no one ever knew they participated! The truth builds stronger spirits than lies!

I recently heard on the radio that people have issue with Christmas ornaments being on before Remembrance Day. Yet malls, stores, and huge corporations still display Christmas themed products before Remembrance Day. So for don to specifically call out “you people” on the air seemed real personal because he could have attacked so many different people such as those companies as a example, yet he went after minorities for not wearing poppies.

I have no position on the Don Cherry sitsuation. What I do know as fact is the original inhabitants of this land are truly the only none immigrant people, yet they originated from some area. Various, NEW findings are changing our knowledge monthly. Even as immigrants came to this new country, via boat, plane, or train. First Nations people needed a pass to leave their own land, which they were placed on via new Western Culture people. These lands are commonly known as a reserve. First Nations, people fought in ALL wars. Earlier, in the history of Canada, they even had their treaty rights removed upon returning from war. Thus, my point is, clear and simple "can we all just get along" To quote Rodney King. Imagine if all of this energy, right or wrong was placed on abuse, homelessness, or hunger, or even solving other horrific other causes in this Nation, would we not all be better off. Just a thought.

Yesterday I was listening to CJAD 800 in Montreal and the radio talk show host recalled an incident of a French Speaking Radio personality making an even worse and disparaging remark on two South Korean baseball players. This radio talk show host was working for the Montreal Expos in 2002, the year the Expos traded Cliff Floyd to the Boston Red Sox for Seung Song (minors) and Sun-Woo Kim. He was working for the Expos PR department and rushed into a French language radio show to announce the news. This French broadcaster whose name is unknown (the radio show host would not reveal it during the show) made a breaking news announcement on air that the Expos traded Cliff Floyd for 2 Egg Rolls! Here's the astonishing fact, this French radio host did not get fired and today is still working and makes public appearances. Yet, Don Cherry gets the axe for something less repugnant. My humble opinion, I think not wearing the poppy is the most un-canadian thing a person can choose to do. Why? It's about respect. If you disagree with me, the fact that you can disagree in a public forum and not be jailed for it is reason alone to wear the poppy. Wear the poppy because what we have is precious, never been done before throughout all of human existence. People died horrible deaths so we can sit behind our monitors and gripe. Lest we forget aren't just words, they're a warning not to repeat the horrors of the 20th century.

Reporter: I feel deeply offended... YOUR NOT THERETO TALK ABOUT WHAT OFFENDS YOU! This is why many of us are turning our backs to the main stream news medias. They no longer report the facts. Instead , the reporter relates how they, the reporter feels. The reporter then seeks out a highly visible minority to back up what their feeling. This was a long way from what Inspired Moses to start up city tv. I found this report to be like most of today's news reports, one sided, one dimensional and grossly far left. Wake Up people. The mainstream media and VM's are taking away the freedom of speech piece by piece. Since when did "you people" become words of racial discourse. How does the individual at the ice arena have the ability to uncatagorically affirm that the words "you people" were aimed at her particular visible minorities. When I first heard the speech, It was about people who don't wear poppies to honour those who gave us and continue to give us the freedom we enjoy today. It was his opinion. That's what he gets paid for, offering his opinions. You may not like them but you do have the freedom of listening to someone else's opinion. As far as the reporter of this "piece" goes, you should be fired for offering your opinions and offering a one sided report.

As Canadians in Canada, we should honour our forefathers and those who sacrificed their lives for “Our freedom.” To not wear a Poppy during November is dishonourable. These refugees and other immigrants don’t know how privileged they are to be here. When Canada goes to war, who will bare arms? Canada for Canadians.

How is it even possible to think that Don was talking about you or directed at a ethnic group that you may be in.?? You can't assume anything. Sure.....you can be upset. Just be Canadian and be strong and let it roll off your arm. Be strong, and not a weak person.

So you (City/Panic/News) interview Shireen Ahmed (who’s a Co-Host of ‘Burn It All Down’)! Really! Can’t imagine her liking Hockey-at all! ‘Burn It All Down.’ Just what does that mean-how’s that NOT political? “You People” that commented that Don had no right to mix politics w. hockey; yet, Ron MacLean is wearing a poppy too! How’s that not a political statement-honouring our Canadian Forces?

Everyone is entitled to free speech. But the place you work for is entitled to fire you base on what you say. You do not have a right to a job at a company, when their position is different. If you do not like the position your job takes, quit.

We live in a country where you are not allowed to have your own opinion and unfortunately when you start imposing your opinion or view on something, you will get fired. Don should If kept it to himself and never mentioned it on tv. It was already time for him to retire anyway . All the best to Don!

Don Cherry has offended people in the past like Russians, Swedish and French Canadian’s. The sportsnet just got sick of him because they had enough of him.

Keep your politics and “inclusivity” out of sports...you are only inclusive to the people that share your point of view, case in point Don Cherry eliminated...he didn’t cite any race any country in what he said...so how can it be abundantly clear Shireen?...it can only be “clear” to someone that is biased to begin with...You’ve likely never met him, haven’t talked to him or been interested in learning anything about who he is as a private citizen. The only thing that’s abundantly clear to is your prejudgement and bias. Shireen the admitted she often gets upset with what Cherry says...The bias is obvious and she is unable to give Don the benefit of doubt about the intentions of what he said...Especially a guy that has done so much in the way of charity for the game and country we love...The road to a prosperous Canada (that would be the “milk and honey” piece) was largely paved by the people the poppy represents, which was the context of his statement - honouring those that shed their blood so your family could one day have a better life...Low class reporting, as low as Ron MacLean’s statement...You are purely trying to lead your viewers, instead of objectively reporting facts...Your reporting and your slant is what is divisive, you the media do a great job of stirring dissension, not people like Don Cherry...

I think part of this outrage, is that not enough people understand why that the Irish and Scottish immigrants were also refugees forced to flee from horrible conditions of the potato famine. Scottish people were being forced off their land by tyrant land lords, villages destroyed. I would say that I am enjoying milk and honey in Canada compared to those conditions.
