We also have an art and music night on the first Friday of the month in downtown Odessa. Our art museum is going through a renovation to expand and be bigger and better. Also look at coming during the Shakespeare festival which is held on the Odessa College campus in fall. Usually done at the Globe Theater on campus. It’s a smaller duplicate of the Globe theater in London, England. I’ve performed there years ago and there’s trap doors along with other areas to pop out of during the performance. Our family lived north of Dallas in the Richardson and Plano areas 1966 to 1977. I'll call that period the 'good old days' in Texas. Went back recently to visit my brother. His little farm town (McKinney) was now just part of the DFW Metroplex. 24 hour traffic, brown haze in the air, and millions more people and thousands of acres of Texas mini-mansions where folks stay inside out of the heat. Sad. Not going back.
@penelopeprimrose902 ай бұрын
We are in that area. That whole area of Richardson, Plano, Allen, McKinney, Frisco is just crazy. So many people. It has really blown up in just the past few years, people moving here from all over the place, lots from out of the country too. It was once a pleasant place but now we can't even maneuver around just to go out shopping or out to eat. The traffic is horrible all day long, and during rush hour it is a nightmare. We are just waiting to become empty nesters and we will move away. We are native Texans (although not from this part of the state). There really are not a lot of native Texans in this area now. I don't consider it "real" Texas.

I don’t know about the rest of Texas, but in Austin we are all about recycling. Texas has the worst drivers because it’s the out of state people who moved here bringing their bad driving with them! “If it wasn’t for those Tennessee boys all going down there and messing with those Mexican girls, there wouldn’t be any Texans.” Gimme a T for Texas and a T for Tennessee. There was more to it than that, of course, but a lot of the American settlers of Texas were originally from the state of Tennessee. Indeed, many Texans may not know that Sam Houston was the Governor of Tennessee for a few years before he moved to Texas. Tennessee loves Texas. When the Mexican War broke out over a border dispute between the newly-minted State of Texas and Mexico, the U.S. government called for volunteers to join the army and fight the Mexicans. They asked for 3,000 troops from Tennessee, and over 30,000 volunteered to serve, largely because they recognized the ties between the two states. This is why the State of Tennessee, to this day, is called the “Volunteer State,” all because of Texas.
