I owned a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage with over 300,000 miles, and it’s very popular here in Southeast Asia. It’s not fast or particularly attractive, but it's reliable and sufficient for those needing a dependable vehicle to get from point A to point B without issues. The gas mileage is excellent. While it might not appeal to car enthusiasts, it's ideal for ordinary people who want a straightforward, functional car. I don't understand why it gets so much criticism in the US or other Western countries.

It all due to different car cultures and needs/wants. Car Manufacturers know this, which is why many different regions have different specific cars to meet certain expectations and requirements. For instance, as you said in Southeast Asia, the needs is mostly to go to point A to point B without issues while being cheap. Many people there arent as concern for Safety and features and are willing to sacrifice things such as performance. Some localised cars that arent available in the global market are: Kia Carens, Hyundai Stargazer and Honda BRV. All these have a common theme of using a very small engine (around 100 hp) to carry 7 people, same goes to the Toyota Wigo and the Mitsubihshi Mirage/Attrage to meet the lower standards and lower income of Southeast Asian countries. In places like America, these cars would never sell well due to the low power. In the eyes of Americans, having high HP, feature-rich tech and stature is more important than having the best economy from a 1.2L. (I mean just look how big and massive American cars are compared to European cars)

Coming from someone who listened to people like you... I bought a new 2018 Mirage in 2018 and kept it for 3 years. Worse car I have ever owned. Fuel economy is all it has going for it. The new ones are $20k msrp. It's not a $20k car or a $15k car(what I paid) new... To keep this short, I had overheating transmission issues at 60k miles/2 years of ownership. I should have bought a used 2014 Honda or Toyota for the same price at that time.

I got a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage ES, put 21,000 miles on it in 8 months. Great car! The more I drive it, the more I like it. I am on vacation not in the Mirage, and I miss it. Wish I could have taken it on the trip. Side note, 4:47 any car sounds strained when floored.. Unless it's an EV. 7:20 The screen has a brightness adjustment. And if you have the daytime running lights on, the screen is in dim mode. But you can manually adjust it with a button on the left side of the screen. Or if you want even more adjustment, you can do so inside the settings in the screen. Things to note, the SE trim level has heated seats, push button start, lane keep warning. Also the base model comes with the cargo cover, but your rental doesn't. I find the car fun to drive around all over. I got 52 US MPG over the span of 21,000 miles, which is amazing. I don't find the car to lack power, and I don't just drive this, I also drive things like V8 Cadillacs, and V6 Nissan Frontier's. But I don't drive fast, I drive eco-minded. So power is the least of my worry. As long as it can go 90 KPH, 55 MPH down the highway, I'm happy. This car can cruise at 80 MPH if you wanted to.

I finally understand why you feel that way; you really want a corvette but could only afford a Mirage? So thats why you hate its rather slow acceleration? Tell you what, I bought a new 23 Mirage hatchback and love it, since my needs are transportation only, its acceleration, while not world beating is good enough when you use the drive sport mode and hold your revs to 4,000 rpm, thats its torque peak, so keeping it at 4,000 you will see better acceleration, and I use it on freeways everyday, it merges just fine used this way and once you hit 65 mph just use the cruise control and watch the gas mileage climb! These cars typically go over 200K (miles) and come with 10 yrs/100,000 mile warranty, so they know the car will make it, and they do! My fill ups come in at $20, and oil changes only need 3 quarts. Its easy to work on these things and once you live within its design limits there is really no other car like it. Im guessing you were just renting it here, but in actually owning them you come to discover just how practical and dependable they really are. But then again, you still really want that Corvette, dont you!

@@POV_Driving You would actually be better advised to buy 2 new mirages rather than the 1 corvette! The corvette will get you in trouble, be very unreliable after a couple years of abuse, give you high insurance and registration costs, a pig on gas, and attract law enforcement attention. All that and the type of woman who will dirty deal you since they will be jealous of your car and pretend to like you for your car. Now about 2 mirages? Always have a back up, if you could afford the corvette 2 mirages will come to $36k, both brand new with that great warranty. Low cost to run and register, wont get you in trouble since your acceleration will be kinda boring (good!) much better reliability and mileage and even if you drove naked and were making love to teddy bears the cops would ignore you sitting in your mirage! Then again Ive always thought the guys who wanted a corvette were dickless wonders and confused their masculinity with some car brand since they were usually compensating for their inability to have a woman and thought the corvette would make up for it. Last positive thing for the Mirage is the car stamps you as practical, frugal and realistic, since most Mirage owners already know with the traffic we already have to suffer in makes a fast car useless in bumper to bumper traffic, where as even the base Mirage comes with cruise control and A/C, power windows and a radio, with seats that are comfortable. A problematic woman would see a mirage as wimpy and so acts as a filter for you, getting rid of divorce prone bitches right off, and a good girl, a decent one will like the car since its cute and easy to maneuver in traffic and comes loaded with features anyone stuck in traffic would want. So again the Mirage filters the women for you and her reaction to it tells you everything you need to know about her. Quite the ride, eh?
@extralock1045
@extralock1045 7 ай бұрын
I find sport mode very useless for speeding up, you can do the same thing in drive? But going downhill it's useful, I use it for engine braking. (: I agree, the Mitsubishi Mirage is the sensible option, the option that will fit 91% of the people who drive. But 99% of the 91% of people will end up making excuses on why they need a huge SUV like the Cadillac Escalade, or Chevy Suburban, or Ford F150. I got the Mirage, and drive it all over, awesome car! One thing to note, I am across the country right now, drove my moms Ford Maverick (pickup truck) she won't ride in the Mirage because it's "too small", although the interior dimensions are nearly identical. Either way, I miss the Mirage, and the truck is pretty useless. The back seats are full of stuff because the bed is un-secure, and the cover leaks.. But in the Mirage you just fold the back seats down, sure, you don't have back seats in both cases, but you have a larger loading area like so, that has climate control, and is more secure, and won't get wet when it rains. Plus the Mirage is more refined in a way. The Maverick seems to have tech glitches in several ways, parking brake won't turn off right away, need to wait for the car to fully start. The screen lags badly, the doors are also very scratchy. One good thing I can say about it is it's quieter.

Anyway, try this experiment, since you are an owner with your mirage. Find a hill, make a big, and in drive accelerate up it. Make it at least a half mile going up. Now do it again this time in sport mode, and keep the tach at 4,000 rpm, because thats its torque peak, and see how fast this time to the top. Compare results.

I don’t understand why you are reviewing the car this way. That is a compact vehicle. It’a a very affordable means of transportation. Nobody is getting it to go from 0 to 100 as fast as they can. Nobody is tearing it up in a Mitsubishi Mirage. But you could’ve done the car some new justice by highlighting the features that it has more. It’s small, you can park it pretty much anywhere. It’s got great gas mileage at 35 mpg and although it’s a basic car, to a real car person like myself I think it looks fun to drive. I like putting a key in ignition and turning it. I like to hear a little bit of the motor. I’ve driven Mitsubishi before. I think it’s a shame that they stopped making the Galant. That was actually really nice, very fun to drive and had a great interior. Free compact, you can’t beat this mirage. Especially with the way prices are today. I heard that the Nissan versa is priced the same or even less, which surprises me because that is definitely a better vehicle, but the Mitsubishi is not a bad option if you want to go cheap.

I used to be so stuck on the Mirage only having a 1.2L 78hp 3 cylinder engine and how other cars have more power and I'm going to get blown off the road, and therefore it is completely inadequate for driving in the United States despite never actually driving one. Until I was stuck renting one, the truth is that the Mirage is quite adequate and comfortable for driving in the US, as long as you don't ask it to do too much, like take a sharp turn really fast, pass 2 semis going 70mph, or do something insane like go 100mph. It is perfect for the first car of a new driver like myself due to it being cheap to own and easy to drive. Yes, I would rather have a used Civic or Corolla, but they are much more expensive than the mirage and I simply do not have the money in addition a used civic or corolla are likely to have miles and eventually cost a lot of money to repair. For a little more, I can get a new car with a warranty and peace of mind. I was so shocked that I will be looking into buying one as my first car for the right price when I can actually afford to own one.

I think I would buy this, but I'd probably just get a rental for long distance driving. I'm not a fan of the low HP. I had a Saturn with 100HP and switched to a Buick with 250HP. I don't know if I could go back. The sensible economic part of me is what is interested in buying it. I sat in a Mirage at an Autoshow a few years ago and I was surprised by how roomy it was.

Super reliable new car, loaded with standard features, cheap price, long warranty, basic reliable engine, reliable CVT as long as you do CVT fluid changes every 30,000 miles. I have owned 3 Mirages a 2015, 2017, 2021 and not one issue. My co worker and friend has had 3 of them a 2015, 2019, 2021 and all of hers and mine were CVTs no issues. Her 2015 she had 5.5 years and still has her 2021 Mirage G4 SE and loves it. They are meant to be a basic vehicle thats affordable, gets hybrid level MPGs, has a long warranty and is feature packed and is a good new car option for someone needing a new vehicle. They are selling extremely well and is more than likely going to be their best year of sales since their release in the USA in 2013 as a 2014 model. Sadly 2024 is their last year. Vehicles keep getting more and more expensive cars in the USA when people are struggling more financially now than in a long time and buying vehicles they cant afford and being maxed out with debt. I do not understand how we operate here in the USA and our wants and needs are so screwy and so many buy vehicles and homes well beyond their means and needs yet they cant afford them. I see it all over its sad. Other countries sell small new cars and micro cars and thrive but not in the USA we have to have bigger and bigger and more and more expensive SUVs. I just hope this craze ends soon and we eventually get back to having affordable vehicles like we did 10 years ago. Sadly our work ethic has gotten so bad in the USA its really sad and trying to find people to work and actually work when you do hire them is next to impossible and we have not one to blame but ourselves its sad. Its seems since Covid it got worse 10 fold. Anyway if you need a new affordable car that is reliable and has a long warranty and this is what you can afford don’t listen to this video and go for it. If you take care of it then it will last you a long long time. Check out my dozens and dozens of videos on the Mirage and you will see how well it does as an everyday car, just click on my name or image and check them out. Thanks.

I will reference Samuel L Jackson from Die Hard 3, "It's a Yugo! It's built for economy, not speed.". Change the Yugo to a Mirage. This car is acceptable for what it is. It's a subcompact made for fuel economy. Easy to park, cheap to fuel, and nobody wants to steal it. What more do you need? I actually tried finding one two years ago whe shopping for a used car. For my needs, this was a perfect second car for daily commutes. Perfect for Toronto traffic. See you at the next traffic light! HP doesn't reallly matter in those conditions. I personally like these types of cars and wish they made more of them. You know it's small when your 4 and 7 year old kids complain a Hyundai Accent sedan is too small. Imagine with this car. This is a 2 person car. Thanks for the review.

I have a model from 2002 Colt/Mirage and the last year of production for this variant. Car is very low from outside, and I compare it with Fiat Punto, WW Polo and Opel Corsa. To be honest it has better quality materials and feels accurate and stable while driving. Engine is very reliable, and my car is even in bad condition in terms of how it looks outside. I definetley like this model and company, but I feel sad how Mitsubishi struggle to make great hatchback nowadays.

You should have got it with a manual transmission. Many ppl neglect servicing the CVT's until they fail and buy another car. Manual transmissions last longer.
@extralock1045
@extralock1045 7 ай бұрын
The manual uses more fuel though, and revs the engine much higher. 3,000 RPM gets you 60 MPH in 5th in the manual. The CVT's can last a long time, but you're right, nearly no one services them. My friend went through 3 CVT's in his Nissan Sentra, he says they are junk.. But he also Never changed the fluid on any of the transmissions. And the engine is burning oil, he does 10,000-15,000 mile oil changes.
@gameboy4696
@gameboy4696 6 ай бұрын
@@extralock1045 that's pretty hard on the engine to do oil changes at 10 to 15k. I remember leasing a Hyundai sonata and it would run like crap closer to 7500 on the first oil change and again after the second. But I didn't care at the time bc it was a friggin lease.

He's wrong and right about the transmission it's a 3 speed auto driven by a cvt shift points in low are: 20, 30, 40, mph. In drive "sport" :20, 40, 65 ish mph. It's terrible to park cause you actually don't know the dimensions, like something 1 meter away looks identical to something 5 inches away

If they offered an up model version (SE-R with like 105HP) or something then maybe but with a 1.2 it should have a manual. That's with no passengers or cargo load. put 2 kids and an adult in it and it won't make it up a hill. My wife drives a lancer, a few years ago she tried to trade it in for a new one... this is what they were offering to replace her car with.... ummm, no. She said it felt like a Half of the lancer.
