Congratulations! I know how good it feels to finish a novel after a long hiatus - same happened to me last summer, and I published the book in January 😀 My favourite stage is the second draft, when I take my messy first draft (I'm a discovery writer) and turn it into a coherent story that I can show to other people. By that point, everything is starting to click together and I find myself unable to stop writing - it's like a runner's high!
@elizabethlandis6050 Жыл бұрын
Congratulations on your accomplishment! I'm still working on the rewrite of my first novel, which is the third draft of my novel. I have major changes to the plot in this draft and so far it is looking much better than drafts one and two. My favorite part of the process is the second or third draft where I figure out the plot. I like to zero draft, then plot, then write a first draft, then do developmental edits. Developmental edits can take a while, but the reward of seeing the story plot much more complete than in the earlier drafts is so satisfying.

I’m drafting but also editing at the same time since I’m a pantser. When the words are flowing, I love this stage. When I realize I have to go back and change things, I hate this stage. I’ll be really happy when it’s finished and my draft will be very close to ready.

Congratulations. You are amazing. Currently, I am working on my first book. I have loved writing since I was a child and earned a Bachelor's in English thinking that would move me forward. Life happened and I lost my confidence in writing. it's not your typical writer's block. I have been finding inspiration from your journey, Abbie and Kate Emmons motivational channels, and have goals in mind now to move forward. I learned the hard way that I have to plan. I have written full manuscripts but lost a majority of my writing when I left my old laptop behind in Virginia several years ago. Right now, I am going to work on outlining and not worry about time, whether or not I will publish, or anything that adds stress to the process. I did complete this novel during Nanowrimo two years ago, but it's not what I want it to be. I noticed that I did not add inner conflict for my protagonist and everything fell flat. I don't want to be anyone special, or prove myself through multiple successes. I just want to write. I don't know if that makes sense, but I want to return to that first love I had for writing and stop listening to the people who say I have nothing to offer. I realize that most people aren't really saying those things. It's inner dialogue that I need to stop telling myself. Thank you for being who you are and for all you do to encourage the writing community.

Congratulations Sarra!! I am so very happy for you. Not just that you finished, but that you are finding your joy in writing again. I finished the rough draft on my first ever fiction novel about a week and a half ago. I literally cried after I got it done. I know it’s a horrible mess and I’ve got some extensive edits and rewrites…but it is done. My journey with this novel has been up and down. I abandoned it for about three years, but in January I was determined to finish it and I did. You have been such an inspiration to me and the Heart Breathings community has played a huge role in keeping me going to the finish line. I’ve tucked it away for a bit to get some space before I start editing. I don’t know yet which part of the process I like best, but I’m determined to find out as I push forward and get this thing eventually published….with the help of Publish and Thrive 😊

Congratulations, Sarra! About a year ago, I came to the same conclusion as you about my own writing: I need to get back to the joy of it in order to ever finish a draft again. Brute forcing, butt in chair, write even when you don't feel like it-style advice only served to further deepen my burnout and crush my creativity. But I haven't been sure how to get the joy back. Seeing your writer reset so far and witnessing how much joy can do for your writing has really inspired me to try and do the same. I want to get my joy back! So thank you so much for sharing this process with us, even when others can sometimes be judgmental about your methods. It's truly helping so much. Can't wait to see what's still ahead of you!

Good job, this writer reset series is the reason why I picked my rough draft back up after dropping it because of everything that happened at the start of May. Short list of the most important; very end of March I had a 12 hour shift at work because there was a concert and the place I work for was catering, then the very next day my 9ish month old puppy had a seizure, then I got busy with work and my cousin coming to live with my family, basically busy start of the month and my book got the back burner because my paying job(currently I hope to become a writer in the future) and my puppy comes first

Congratulations!!! Also, the wanting to be our "perfect" self and routine right now but knowing you have to take the gradual steps and just making little changes at time really resonated with me. I did that with my eating and lifestyle starting in 2013. It worked for me, but I sometimes feel like I'm failing at it because my weight isn't where I want it to be and my sugars are not where they should be, and I don't have a steady exercise routine. All of these things are better, but not where my "perfect" is
