Imagine telling whitney houston not to sing a song. Her passing may have actually put a turn on our culture. There are simply some people who are connectors to the culture of America, anchors even. Through gospel, all of America is included. A pragmatism, a discipline, and a beauty that all can understand. Gospel is the culture of america ... we've lost it. The face of the country has indeed changed, and for a long time, when u thought of America, you thought of whitney houston. She was the missionary. A beacon and trajectory of possibility. A woman after his own heart!

I can never listen to her sing I Love The Lord without bursting into TEARS!! I didn’t grow up listening to Gospel music because it is a major no-no in the Jehovah’s Witness faith in which I was raised, so I always had to sneak to listen to her song anything other than pop. Her voice always gave me goosebumps and still does. When she sings that song, it always moves me that far. It’s a feeling. What a wonderful documentary. I love the accompanying compilation album, too. Every track is fab. As much as I love Whitney's pop and r'n'b material, it would've been great to hear more gospel recordings. "I Love the Lord" is one of my fave Whitney tracks. Stunning. Imagine a gospel duets album! Whitney, Cissy, her brother Gary, Dionne, Aretha, the Winans family, and maybe some unexpected guests, too. Bono? Johnny Cash?! 😄 But at least we have all these awesome live gospel cuts, as well as The Preacher's Wife soundtrack. To be honest, I'm not a religious guy - but I greatly appreciate this music, not least the huge influence it had on Whitney's unbeatable vocals and her live performances.
