I mean the thing about puchased 3D printed parts is that you can print them yourself for WAY less. I have a magwell I printed my self for about 35 cents worth of plastic instead of paying $57 that HRF charges. OHC didn't make a scope cap for a particular scope I own so I printed one using TPU, a rubber like filament that made it even better (in my opinion) than the ones I own from OHC. OHC isn't bad in what they charge but HRF overcharges by a ridiculous amount.

If you're completely new to printing and want a printer that "just works" go with Bambu Labs. Most printer companies require a LOT of maintenance and setup and tinkering to get the printer to do what you want. Bambu took the Apple approach in making a printer that works with a minimum amount of tinkering. That being said, we are gun people who like to tinker. But we also like our stuff to work. Bambu also has some of the least expensive setups out there. The A1 or even A1 Mini can easily be used to print stuff like this. Both are sub-$500 to get up and running.

One of my best use cases for 3D printing in the firearms space was test fitting things before I bought them. I wanted a vertical foregrip, and there's only a few DOZEN options. Buying each one would have cost hundreds of dollars, and I would have had to wait a week plus for shipping. Printing each one I was interested in took a day and cost me only a few bucks in filament and power. Once I figured out that I liked the Magpul VFG style the best, I was able to spend the money on the real thing without worry or remorse. I've gone through the same process with light mounts, tape switch mounts, pistol grips, killflashes, scope covers, etc etc.

Printing your own guns has a steeper learning curve than most are willing to admit. But it is worth it. Filament is cheap and untraceable. The Orca, for example, is one hell of a basic AR for very little money. Barrels, bolt parts, and springs cost some money, but you print most of the actual gun itself. Receivers, furniture, even the trigger parts that aren't springs. A 400 dollar PSA is just as cheap but you need to transfer via FFL. You get all the parts shipped and print the Orca at home.

The nice thing about 3D printers is you can print your own printer upgrades. So while the learning curve can be steep (although there's a ton of helpful tutorials out there), it's relatively affordable to do. The reason I was so skeptical is that in the past there was plenty of mass media coverage of "3d printed guns" but it was always the "owl" scenario, simply we 3d print a nerf gun and put a glock receiver and a barrel inside. For me, living across the pond, where having a gun is as probable as having a space rocket and possesing a single cartridge can put you in jail for at least 3 years, these claims seemed ridiculous.

@@Watchdog_McCoy_5.7x28 If you're a tinkerer, a $200 Ender 3 and $1000 in parts can get you a machine that rivals industrial FDM printers. However, if you prefer a turnkey solution with minimal troubleshooting and a shallow learning curve, a Prusa Mk4 isn't a bad way to go. Somewhere in between that is building a CoreXY kit printer (HyperCube Evo for instance), but in my experience that sort of project is better as a second printer instead of your first one, since you'll have a better idea of how they work and what you want to do with them after your first one.

Man, this was gonna be my next video but you beat me to it! A couple of quick opinions: Instead of spending over $100 with 100 Concepts, there's a company called Hammy's 3D Prints that offers very similar products at a significantly lower cost. I've been testing their light cover and Eotech kill flash, and I've had good experiences so far. (I do not think 100 concepts products should be as crazy expensive as they are). Additionally, my favorite benefits of the scope cap for eotech and WML light cap are the protection they offer to the devices. If you aren't running suppressed, the cap will keep carbon off your light, which I find valuable on its own. The killflash also prevents debris, mud, and scratches from affecting your optic, which has proven useful recently. Excellent video as always hop!

It's hard to make a lot of brand recommendations because there's so many carbon copy printers from different Chinese brands. I have actually designed and printed hex caps for a friend of mine who does sims. First time he used it, it saved his 6 thousand dollar night vision scope. Took a lot of work to get it strong enough without reducing image quality too much. Generally I agree with your position though injection molds are not good solutions to this problem. If you aren't concerned about strength of the cap, you can make the hex patter much, much smaller by dropping nozzle size which most companies won't bother to do. It is totally reasonable to have the thickness be about 1/4 to 1/8th of the thickness from 100 concepts. The ones I made had the thickness at about 1/2 and I didn't even need to drop my nozzle size. Additionally, injection molding is going to within the next 10 years lose a lot of ground to 3d printed objects.

I want to add that something like a Mesh is EXTREMELY hard to Injection mold since its so fine. What would work better is FDM printing the overall big adapter out of something like CF NYlon or CF PETG since theyre jigh in strench/temp resistance etc. , since a tolerance of .1mm is acceptable. And then inserting, clapming or something else a Resin printed or metal mesh into the design. Resin printers have the ability to make designs that are complex and small or another level, and if you take a high strengh resin I believe that could work out pretty well, maybe not commercially, but atleast on a DIY level.

Cool for some niche applications (I use a 3D printed thumb rest and oversized magazine button on my IPSC pistol), not strong enough for anything substantial.
