She turned her life around and got her daughter back in part due to how shitty prison was. Yes, it's awful, yes, it's terribly difficult, but it's not about making people feel cozy and cared-for. I have to say that the argument "it's my fault, I broke the law" is simply not enough! You are a human being first, and should be treated as such! Prison itself is already the punishment, as you are being exiled from society. The treatment, the lack of interest, the disregard, that's too much. That's just people feeling superior due to people who struggle with real life problems.

the most likely reason prisons are like this is to try and make sure that these people do not come back which is understandable😔 But there are a few things that need to change
@larsalfredhenrikstahlin80123 жыл бұрын
@@damikey18 It is not understandable, and the reason people keep coming back is because of it. No rehabilitation, just lower chance of getting back on track than before. Compare statistics with scandinavian countries that rehabilitate, of course offer health care and not break human rights and you will understand why the US way is completely ludicrous in every single way. It is a 100% retributive system based on punishing people. And the punishment doesn't end with being locked up, but the inmate has to be treated like a sub human too with no respect. Just a money source for the often corrupt PRIVATE correctional institution. The medical and prison systems in the States make me sick and utterly grateful for not living in a country that treat human beings that way anywhere in any system, private or state run. It's a god damn disgrace for a country that is supposed to be a developed country. To me the US just look like a huge developing country with clicks of rich people doing great while the majority just have none of the benefits of a developed country like great universal public services like medical, school, dental, free or even paid university education etc

I’m not saying that the way that the nurses acted was right in any way shape or form but playing devil’s advocate, some nurses are terrified and don’t know how to act. They may think that if they act tough and like they’re not scared is a way to make the inmate not “try” anything. They don’t know why the inmate is in prison. They don’t know if the person is a cold blooded murderer or violent. Most officers also don’t watch the inmates like they should and are pre-occupied talking with one another or flirting with the other nurses. It is a very intimidating situation. I think that hospitals that take care of inmates need to train the staff on how to handle these situations to take some of the fear away and to keep the compassion there.

I think that the best punishment is work - tiring, hard, but safe work. Effort is the best way to grow and learn. Cruelty is not. Humiliation, at least for the things you can't control, is also not. This story is heartbreaking. Human beings are not black and white and we are ALL entitled to be treated with basic human rights. So pleased you're doing so much better now! This should be a full on movie !

Sienna Juliette yes but if she was a black Roman it would’ve been worse her child would probably be dead considering al that black women go thru in this stystem and the most disrespect but regardless a woman does not deserve this treatment 👏🏾 idc about color I care that a woman gets the help she needs

That is awful what she went through. Yes, she broke the law, but she is also a human being, and has the right to be treated like one. It’s truly devastating that she was treated like an animal. I was so happy when she said that she finally did it and got custody of her daughter. She is so strong, resilient, and brave. She is an inspiration.

You are living proof of a mother’s strength & love for her child & the willingness to go through any adversity for that child! What an amazing story & what you went through sent chills up my spine. The senseless cruelty, completely unwarranted at such a critical time of pregnancy & birth. But you made it through & now have your children safe & sound with their loving mother! God bless you, Jessica, & your family!❤️

I'm a medical student and I had 1 week of my psychiatry rotation in the corrections health services at the county jail. It was so eye-opening, and though in most ways, I found it extremely depressing, it was also nice in a way, because you feel like you can be there for these people who have nobody else. The psychiatrist and nurse we worked with were so kind to the patients, it was really great to see that there are people like that in jail and that not everybody treats inmates like subhumans. Before that rotation, I probably would've been one of the people giving an inmate in the waiting room the side-eye or one of the staff members speaking to the corrections officer and ignoring the inmate, sadly. The reality of getting to know people is always different than the way they're portrayed, I hope to always remember that.

Wow, Jessica! It is so weird hearing you say Fort Smith, Arkansas. I was born and raised here and still live here. I was also in county jail on drug charges. This last time was February 2018 and I detoxed off of methadone and alcohol. It was so completely miserable as you can imagine. Throwing up and shitting myself. I couldn’t even keep water down. Right there laying on the tiny ass mat on the floor detoxing (there were three of us in this cell and they were there first so they got the bunks of course) I decided I was done. I eventually got out and immediately got pregnant. I kept my word and have been sober since. I ended up losing my son on my DUE DATE of a prolapsed umbilical cord. It was the hardest thing I have ever been through. I easily could have gone right back to my old ways but I decided I was going to keep being the best mother I could be for him even if he’s not here. I’m proud to say I’m still sober but the pain is still as fresh as it happened yesterday and I want my baby so badly. You’re incredibly blessed and I just wanted to tell you how so very happy I am for you. Keep doing what you’re doing and great things will continue to come your way. You’re a huge inspiration for me. I hope you’re able to see this and know that. 💕
