I used to like Mia and Me, however I honestly didn't know it had anything past season 2. I've only seen the 1st two seasons. The first two seasons made me, as a bullied child who maladaptive daydreamed all the time, feel validated. Like I was allowed to escape in my mind.

My 7 year old self just went “Nah, Imma watch some My little pony now” after season 2 ended so I never really had to see the horrors that were described in this video. But I think I made the right choice. Queen Chrysalis gave me nightmares for years though after I saw her for the first time. I was terrified until I was like 13. And that was cause my mom died and there was nothing scarier anymore! Seriously, they didn’t have to make her that scary! 😂 But something good came out of my mom dying. I’m not scared of anything except physical pain which isn’t even that bad for me cause I can handle it better than most people cause of that good old ✨trauma✨ but I love to watch horror movies with my friends. They think I’m some kind of alien that hasn’t learned about emotions yet lmao

For the elves looking like "faeries": I think it’s because it is (partly) a german production, and in german, "Elfen" is used for what the english call faeries. Even in "the Fairly Oddparents", the german dub calls the fairies “Elfen" (except when it doesn’t). It’s even in the title: "Cosmo und Wanda - wenn Elfen helfen"

If you're not going to watch Season 4, here are some of its main characteristics and plot points: - It took five years to come out, with the live action segments being recorded in 2019. - Half of the VAs were changed, which is actually less that between seasons 1 and 2. I don't know how you didn't notice, but literally every single one is different. Interestingly, Lasita, Xolana, and Shiva (who's the only character to have a single actor throughout all seasons) had the same in seasons 2 and 3, possibly because they had two-season contacts. The table on Wikipedia is just scary. - Margot's hair is shorter than in Season 3, but instead of re-doing the transformation, they just added extra sparkles. - Mia works as an assistant for a vet in some village, and the cute boy who she might like doesn't learn her secret, and so new person comes to Centopia. He has a bit of a storyline, certainly more than Mario. - They reveal that some of the world's history (just the surface, obviously), and there are other islands which are now shifting (which I think was caused by the Heart of Centopia from Season 3). One is Dystopia, so we finally see it and Drakon in person, and the other one is Zealand, which has Indigenous-inspired people and unicorns with fluffy hair (they have a unique name, but I don't remember it). The people are captured, except Riok, who becomes one of the main characters, and two of the "unicorns" do as well. - Both Rixel and Dax return, so no new villain is introduced. Gargona is constantly treated badly, and ultimately betrays them. She also forms a friendly relationship with one of the "unicorns". Drakon and Dystopia are fully destroyed at the end. - The McGuffin is some magical potion, but unlike the other times, all of the elements are unique (flowers, rocks, liquids, etc.). There's also a glowing stick which is very important. - They only introduce three or four new unicorns, and a relatively high number of characters return from previous seasons, such as the Moon and Stone Unicorns (who's brown instead of grey, for some reason), the Swamp Unicorn and their friend, Gurga, and Mo's sister. - Yuko and Mo are much more heavily implied to be romantically together, although I think Season 3 also had an episode showing them. - A female Phuddle is introduced, and appears in a few episodes. - Kyara stars speaking near the end of the season, and by the finale all unicorns can. Ultimately, I'd say it's better than Season 3 (at least the animated parts). Also, I only watched it dubbed half a year ago, so I might be misremembering something. Corrections would be appreciated.

Am I the only one that remembered Mia's parents being dead from season 1? I vaguely remember Mia's aunt talking to her about her parents being gone in the first episode as well as the bracelet being part of an actual game Mia’s parents created for her and were saving to gift her for one of her birthdays (but you know- they’re kind of dead so her aunt gave it to her on the first day she went to that new school) I might be misremembering things because I was a kid when season 1 came out but I’m pretty sure things were elaborated on in the books if not in the actual show

Yep! Same conversation she revealed that while Mia doesn't do a ton of extracurriculars, she's amazing with languages. Considering the many translations for the show, and even the many languages spoke by the original actress, it's a better explanation for talking to unicorns than it could be

I hate it so much when people with disabilities travel into a magic world and are not disabled anymore instead of the magic world being less hindering to them. As soon as Sara got introduced i thought "oh god, please don't Elea Eluanda her" because I recognised this from a german series of audio plays named "Elea Eluanda". These are about a Elea, who uses a weelchair due to paraplegia, and is able to travel to a magical and bizarre fantasy world. Everyone there is getting along and everything is perfect, therefore of couse her paraplegia is also cured. What I'd find way more interesting to see in shows with a seperate "magic world" is it accommodating people with disability insted of just "curing" them. That always has the connotation that disabilities make people imperfect and the only way to make them perfect again is to cure them of their disabilities.

I don't necessarily think that it's because they feel the need to 'cure' the characters to make them 'normal' or whatever, I think it more has to do with the fact that it would limit what the writer can do with the character, plot wise. Because they would have to work around their disability and would ultimately be limited in what they can write using that character. But I mean if you're going to include a disabled character, I think it's better to find ways of incorporating that disability into the writing instead of just fixing them. It's a lazy writing move that's done when writers don't want to actually do the work of thinking about how to include the disability in the plot without just avoiding using the character or just getting rid of the character all together.

From what I hear, acting and voice acting require a some difference skill sets. Like actors usually have someone else to play off of directly, where voice actors have to learn out to act based on the pages. It's kinda why a lot of celebrety actors can come across as flat when put into VA rolls.

Plus, live-action actors need to control their facial expressions and body language in order to make the character even more convincing, but most end up neglecting making the voice of the character iconic because they are focused on the body. Voice actors don’t have to deal with this issue because they are not the ones on stage, allowing the voice actors to feel more comfortable and retakes because someone messed up their line would be less expensive compared to a live-action retakes because the retake would be more noticeable in the live-action due to different lighting and wind conditions, and a lack of limited supplies such as fake blood and clothes if the costume gets damaged.

So the live-action actress obviously wouldn't be the one doing the actual dubbing - which is probably why the voice acting doesn't match the quality of the live-action performance? Granted, I don't know anything about this show so maybe I'm wrong and the English dub _is_ somehow the original version, but this would be my assumption.

I think it's just a matter of the dub and English is probably one of the earlier dubs because so many people speak English so yeah I think you are right.

Season 4 has been slowly releasing on the english Mia and Me youtube channel, at least in the US. You are still completely correct though about the degradation in story quality. You are _watching,_ with time-stamps, the spreading belief that kids are dumb and need super dumbed-down shows. They occasionally allude to characters in season 1/2 in later seasons but age-wise, most will likely not be returning. You're not wrong that Vincent deserves better XD

Justice for Vincent! Seriously, I never watched season 3 because I don't think it released when I was interested in the show. I don't think I even made it to season 2. But it feels so unfair to Vincent as a character. As a kid, I might have accepted the changes and the way the new seasons went, but in hindsight it's mostly nostalgia. In the show's defense, though: I'm not entirely sure if this was somehow changed in different language versions (I watched the show in Dutch) but I distinctly remember they mentioned Mia's parents having died in the first episode. Something about her father having made the book for her and it was supposed to be a birthday present. Don't know where it was mentioned, but I knew it as a kid when the second season didn't exist yet.

As somebody who wants to be a voice actor, and not an actor…. Acting is not just acting….. acting as a voice actor can be so much more difficult than acting with your entire body…. If you are acting with your entire body, then people have so much to go off of in your performance, whereas, if you are just voice acting, if you aren’t putting emotion and inflection into your voice, it doesn’t matter what the character on the screen is doing if you sound like, you are reading a script, you sound like you are reading a script…. Whereas, if you are physically acting, you can kind of get away with that a little bit more I feel because people can read your emotions and your vibes from your body language

It starts with a 45 minute movie(the pacing is really good). IIRC a lot of the voices actors also changed between the 1st and 2nd season too. I have no idea why. They changed again in the 3rd season. As for Rosabell Sellers, I think it was because she was going off to university around the same time regardless,--although she WAS also doing Game of Thrones (as Tyene Sand) for about 3 seasons right around the time Season 2 came out, so it could just be she was unavailable going forward, or they didn't want an actor doing Game of Thrones (an adult show) ALSO being the face of a children's franchise. I can see how that would be diametrically opposed to each other.

And the creators also seem adamant on making sure that nobody will know season 4 even exists like seriously the english version has already aired but not in The US yet, from what I heard from Mia and Me All Languages I think it aired in Poland (feel free to correct me) I believe because they live in Poland,as of the time of writing this comment the official youtube channels didn't even upload season 4 aside from the german channel even then the channel only uploads clips and not full episodes and it took them two months to upload season 4 clips after they uploaded the trailer. The countries I know where season 4 aired as of the time of writing this comment if you know any other countries where season 4 aired please feel free to inform me: Italy,Germany,Portugal,Serbia,Romania,Bulgaria,Poland(this season dubbed by a different studio so they rerecorded the theme song with a different singer and different translation but I don't know if the voice cast changed). From what I heard this season is going to air on Gloob in Brazil in 2024 (again please feel free to correct me if I am wrong) which is weird cause usually Brazil doesn't shafted like this when it comes to dubbing. You can watch the whole season in italian and german in rai play and the zdf site but it's geo restricted and doesn't have engish subs

So I’ve seen seasons one through three of the show. I didn’t know there was a fourth season or a movie until watching your first video. I am a blind person, and I can tell you what I think, regarding the lives of blind people, and possibly of that character. But please keep in mind that I’ve been blind almost my whole life, I have a completely different perspective than someone who has recently become blind. Also, please keep in mind that all blind people are different individuals with different feelings. Some people are extremely strict, and some are extremely relaxed. Some of us will find things offensive, while others of us will find them funny, or won’t know how to feel about them at all. so how I feel about the character won’t reflect how every blind person feels about her. And please forgive me if any of this writing comes out wrong. I’m typing it on my phone, and for me, dictating is much easier than typing on this thing. And when I dictate, sometimes it doesn’t always come out right. Especially when it comes to putting punctuations in weird places, or refusing to capitalize my sentences for some reason. i’ll fix what I can, but I can’t promise everything will be perfect. Now, when it comes to Sara, I really liked her. I am more relaxed and less critical than some blind people I know though. She probably wasn’t perfect, but they did get some things right when it comes to sighted people who have become blind, or how blind people are treated. Avatar probably has one of the best blind characters though. I have a friend who used to be able to see, and I met him a little while after he became blind. For a long time, he was really depressed and upset. Understandably. And he wasn’t willing to have to learn to adapt and deal with his situation. One of the things that helped him become OK with it was meeting other blind people and learning from experience that blind people could be happy, and they could live full, enjoyable lives. Another thing to consider is how much a disability can affect your life. Everything in my life, from the way I eat, to the way I move, to the way I use my technology is affected by and tailored to my life as a blind person. I’ll be watching a show on my phone while I’m doing the dishes, with my Bluetooth headphones in, and my phone sitting on a table that position behind me on the other side of the room, with the screen turned off, and I won’t even realize that’s not normal unless I actively think about it. A cited person would be watching the show while holding their phone and looking at the screen because they would want to see the action going on. And I don’t even think about that. So not only is their emotional stuff to get through when you become disabled, there’s a lot to adapt to. A lot is going to change. Not just the obvious stuff, but also a whole bunch of stuff that you don’t even think about. Think about all the little tiny things you do every day. And even the way you perceive the world. All of that and more could change. What if for every tiny thing you do, and for every tiny thing you experience, you ask yourself, “how would I do this without seeing?”Or “what would this be like if I couldn’t see. “. and as far as disabled people being talked down to and treated like we’re stupid. That does happen. It shouldn’t be condoned. And it needs to be shown that it’s not OK. We should be treated as equals. But it does happen. One of my friends who is also blind said that if someone saw her walking into a store with her Kane, as a grown woman, they would still treat her like a 12-year-old. That’s just ablism for you. people have a tendency to think that we’re all stupid, and it stinks. I will give them props for getting braille right. The show explained braille perfectly accurately in a way that sighted people could understand, and even got the dots for the letters right. Most shows that have characters, learning braille or include braille. Don’t even bother to explain it like that. so I definitely give the show credit there

In Jenny nicholsons land before time video she says the movies work well for kids to get inspired for their own pretend games. That's honestly a very fair take on the show. Even as a little kid watching season 1 as it came out, I was frustrated by the show refusing to utilize its world and characters in any interesting way. I fell off during season 2 and barely caught anything of season 3 due to having outgrown it and having lost interest. I was surprised the show was still alive when I saw a trailer for the movie and it did an amazing job of making me not care for it a single bit. I had no idea there even was a season 4 until this retrospective. For context on the elves thing: Due to Germany having a part in the production, they probably incorrectly mixed in German terminology. Fairies, pixies and elves tend to be referred to in Germany as "elfen" which they probably translated incorrectly from the German version and used "elves" instead of the more fitting "pixies" or "fairies".

its interesting to see other peoples perspectives on this, and as an adult too - Mia and Me used to be my favourite show as a kid, but I grew up in poland so the voice cast remained the same because its a different language, and i was a little kid so i never even noticed that the actress for Mia has changed lol. I worked as a layout artist on the Mia and Me film. I did not enjoy the production of the film (does not help that half the work was outsourced to India during COVID). So glad I got offered a job on the TV series What If from Marvel. I jumped ship so fast.

I loved the first season, and the second season is amazing but everything after that just seems like a repeat of the seasons before. Mia and me is all about the villains and aesthetics. Pros I love the way the cartons not only mix into the real world but almost interact with it. The characters and their development in the human world is well done. The villains are diverse and have different goals for the most part. The fact that Lyria actually gets captured was shocking and some of the side plots like the horse competition is surprisingly entertaining and engaging for a kids show. The writing isn’t as repetitive as most shows. Paula is my favorite character Cons some of the powers go unexplained like how Mia can talk to unicorns. Mia’s aunt from the first episode is completely forgotten about. The fact that she’s an orphan is never brought up except in the first season. Overall the writing is kinda rushed. Five episodes in and so much has already happened. Even worse about this is that they introduce topics minutes before utilizing them and only fleshing it out as used. Their is no foreshadowing of anything in the show unless you watch the intro (when they due foreshadow they spell it out for you. And is it just me or is the animation sometimes off putting don’t get me wrong I like it but it’s just weird sometimes. I’m kinda nitpicking with this but their is no racial diversity IN WHAT WORLD IS EVERYONE WHITE Neutral Also this show is just screaming BUY OUR TOYSSS one thing I never understood with the villains is why couldn’t they just breed the unicorns? Edit2 I’ll add more later but this my hot take

I truly love seasons 1 and 2 and I also think season 3 is disgusting.Most of characters after season 3 are boring or simply repulsive. I hate kuki and toxor with all my heart, everything about them is disgusting, from design to character and behavior in plot, and kyara is annoying because this blank takes up screen time by doing typical cute things and does nothing to anyone does not help and does not worry about anything and in the end receives the most powerful powers

What annoyed me about Kyara is that she looks like a female version of her older brother Onschao Onschao: 1. Golden horn ✔️ 2. Magical ability ✔️ 3. Wings ✔️ Kyara: 1. Golden horn ✔️ 2. Magical ability ✔️ 3. Wings ✔️ Her mane already had a hairstyle although she has just been born... Unicorns don't get born with accessories on their mane. Was Onschao born with these stones on his mane? No. Why does he and his father even have stones on their mane? They are males! In the episodes where Onschao goes with the elves to the "north pole" (the snowy place where Ono had been frozen), HE wore PINK... I used to think that Onschao was a girl in season 1 and 2 😂 Why did HE wear PINK when he could have worn any other color? I seriously thought he was a female 😅

You talking about disabled people and how they are looked down on reminds me of two stories, one personal one I just heard about anonymously. My story began in spring break for my youngest siblings senior year. We were in myrtle Beach with our parents, aunt and a friend of hers. I was just being nice to basically every stranger I saw, complimenting them on their outfits or saying have a good day. After I said it to this wicked woman who was I assume smoking a drug that rhymes with Beth, she said thanks, I like your face. It sounded exactly like Chloe bourgeois from miraculous ladybug, and for a long time after it, I still thought about it. Main reason I'm including this story is because I have spinabifida and skulliousous. Now the second one is about this one dude who has down syndrome and wasn't hurting anyone at the gym while working out, he was just minding his own business when this Karen who was a part of some group told him to stop making noise ad he was working out. He typically does that apparently. The person who told this story and he kids dad both started to do the exact same thing as the poor boy to teach Karen a lesson. Hope these stories helped any of you dear readers understand us disabled people better.

I honestly had no idea that there was a fourth season and a movie. I remember hating the 3rd season because there was no plot. I think a lot of people say this show is iconic is because we were all horse girls/guys/non binarys that loved the show when we were young and didn’t understand that plot holes existed. honestly it's a nostalgic show for me mostly because it was one of the shows that I watched as a kid which seemed fun and cool, but just like you I've only considered the first two seasons as good to watch. They really dropped the ball when season 3 came around, although I have watched the movie and did kind of like it, but that still is over-shadowed how underwhelming it had been. It's like I kept waiting to see if there wasn't anything else that I might've missed.

oh gosh, I never watched past season 3 becuase I thought that was the end- there's a whole movie???? watching this, I realized I actually remembered next to NOTHING of season 3, although seeing it here did jog my memory a bit. I rewatched the show several times, so it's odd that I didn't remember it... I loved the show, it is a fantasy world and there is unicorns. I've always loved unicorns and mia and me has really awesome unicorn animation and I ended the story too ,but they could add some things to it tho. This was one of the shows that made me feel relaxed while watching, I truly wished they made it a bit better tho. They could have explained more things about the fantasy world and explained more about why the dark elves are bad and why do the dark elves want unicorn horns. I want to know what it really is for. Are they trying to make something to destroy the land or do they hate unicorns? I need more information. I would like to see a video about season 4 since I didn't watch that one and I didn't know there was a movie. I really want to know more about this season 4 and what they could have done to make it better.

From anecdotal experience usually being with friends post-blindness typically only stops when that person becomes ableist and leave you or you split up because of shared trauma. I’m also really not a fan of the blind girl (apologies I didn’t catch her name) became able bodied/sighted when going to the fantasy world or the “helpless disabled person” trope, they are so ableist. It’s also not great when blind characters are played by sighted actors

I’m visually impaired and it can be hard to move around in new wnviormwnts, and easier to move around in familiar ones. The idea of going forward in your life after losing something as central to your life as vision can chase a lot of grief. I didn’t like how the character was portrayed really either. I never saw her improve or get better or be able to do new things. Thank you for acknowledging the struggles of disability representation and saying that people with disabilities are just people who need acomadations,:) Sarah getting her sight back also just makes me feel like they are saying that my situation is the worst possible life experience you could have why would someone be okay with themselves being blind

From what I’ve seen from movie acting vs a va in the studio from behind the scenes footage live acting and voice acting are really different. In live action body language helps carry the performance with getting the entire body into it where as voice work requires you to stay in one place with a mic in front of your face and the voice can be flattened and restricted as a result if the actor is completely still. A lot of VAs I’ve seen in the behind the scenes footage normally exaggerate some part of their body or face in what I believe is a way to help to avoid the flat delivery. That is just my guess though, I’ve never done any acting just singing lol.

Yeah pls... I loved it 😅 but something that felt weird to me is that there is barley any character with real name, they all call each other according to what they actually are. Example: • the main character boy claims to be "the little prince" • his friend is a fox who calls himself and other call him as "(the) fox" • "(the) rose" is well... A rose • the villain is a snake that everyone calls as "snake" And so on 😅 Fun fact: in the German dub for "The Little Prince" when the little prince tells the snake to stay away from him, his friends and his love interest (the rose), he keeps using the pronoun "Sie" which when speaking German is used in order to express politeness and respect to the person you are talking to. So why is the main character (the hero) so polite when talking to his enemy? 😂

As a person who had both acted and voice acted in the past, they're not the same. Stage acting, screen acting, and voice acting prioritise different aspects of the performance, which can make a huge difference both in how it feels to perform and in what it takes to make it good. Edit: yeah, hearing you play those voices. as you say, the voices are flat. and it sounds like they're just reading lines. which is the problem. when screen acting, most of the emotion comes from the gesture and mimicry. in voice acting? it's all voice, naturally. it seems they're just trying to get their lines out, the annunciation even makes it sound like some of them are trying to produce the kind of patter you usually get when voice acting... to the point of sounding unnatural. it doesn't sound like they understand what the lines they're saying mean. I will also add that motion, when stage or screen acting, is not only a major tool for conveying emotions, but it also helps you create clarity for your character. For this reason, you will try to do subtle motions while voice acting still, to nail the tone by associating with the character. but of course you can't do that much bc if you keep moving back and forth around the mic, the audio will be shoddy. and based on the way they're speaking, it sounds like they didn't do any of that and consequently... lost the character. relying only on the memory of what they might have sounded like to keep it consistent, but never really becoming comfortable with the voice.

I watched Mia and me when I was around 8 or 9 and there was only season 1 on TV and I loved season 1 dearly! I also read the books which I also enjoyed! When season 2 aired I was curious but I dropped it real quick because I didn't like the artstyle change and I HATED the villain and whatever they were trying to establish with him. So yeah, Mia and Me ended after season one and some additional books with the lore for me😅
