I died laughing in the theater at the “hold on tight spider monkey”, comment in the first movie. Apparently that wasn’t intentionally in the movie for comedic relief, which is a bold faced lie, but I digress. One of the staff in the theater was asked to go and ask me to be quiet. Edward is not hostile towards her, he is hostile towards himself because he thinks he is a soulless monster for being a vampire and therefore not worthy of anyone’s love. So he thinks her loving him is gross and shouldn’t be the case. Him leaving her and telling her he didn’t love her was to protect her from another incident with Jasper for example. Him thinking he is a soulless monster is also the reason he doesn’t want her to become a vampire herself, which in her opinion would be the only way to be with him and his family safely. Maybe it’s not coming through in the movies as in the books. PS: Anger is the trigger that causes the boys to becoming wolves and join the pack, so Jacob becoming angry in the cinema are the first signs of his transformation. It isn’t exactly explained in the movies. Also the movies take place just before Jacob gets „sick“ because he transforms and doesn’t contact Bella anymore.

You have to remember that Stephane Meyer is Mormon. The way she wrote Bella (a blank, hollow, lobotomized self insert) and Edward was safe for young girls to connect with because he was never pressuring her with sex. The narrative was also so basic that it forces the demographic of pre-teen/teen girls to fill in the blanks with their imaginations without realizing it, at a point in their lives when boys being mean to them still means they like you. 18:27 no yeah you’re right I went to this movie in theatres when I was a tween and that line specifically did get an audience reaction, mostly laughter and stuff. As goofy as these movies are, people did take them seriously at the time and the team Jacob versus team Edward discourse was real

The sad part is, that everything Charlie mentioned, every single line he joked about, I vividly remember all of it. Those scenes are unforgettable for how wacky they are, they are iconic for all the wrong reasons
