I don't think that music theory would stifle your writing process ("you" as in "Justin"). You have a very good feeling for language, and you sometimes break the rules of the English language very subtlely. I believe that musical rules work in a very similar way (and that music and language are much more connected than most people think). Most of the time, one follows musical (grammatical) rules subconsciously. At rare occasions, one actually thinks about what one is about to play (say), and on some of those occasions, one deliberately uses "wrong" grammar, words (chords, notes, whatever) because it actually emphasises one's point more than following the rules would have. You have a fine sense for the intricacies of language, methinks, and that sense should protect you from becoming a slave to rules.

I think it's very interesting how some notes dont quite match when sung with different accents even if they're the same. Going into music and singing theory; The over tones totally change with different vowel sounds and overall shape of your mouth when pronouncing them. It's fun to match (or not) accents when singing along. It definitely makes part of each individuals overall timbre. Dan is indeed brilliant! Such a sensitivity for how much and how loud, etc in each musical moment; Its beautiful! Much love to you Mr. Hawkins ♡!

As a physiotherapist, I would recommend you get that bruising checked out. I mean, I'm surprised you're not in more pain, but generally high bruising like that with the mechanism you described would normally be related to a Type 2 hamstring strain with torn fibres. They can be really annoying to recovery from, and you don't want to end up with a full rupture as its quite difficult to repair. At least have an Ultrasound scan to assess the tissue. Gutted I missed out on the NZ show, but I'll just have to insist you and The Darkness return. Come during Summer, the beaches are great. Also, "Dare" by Stan Bush is another fantastic song of his. Long live the original Transformers movie

Hello Justin. You channel is a wonderful resource for exploring what makes music great. Thank you x 1 million! Question without notice: A few weeks ago I had dental surgery and have been informed that on awakening, I was singing your 'Justin Hawkins Rides Again' theme song at the top of my lungs over and over, much to the alarm of other patients and to the amusement/embarrassment of my wife. I cannot remember this at all. What do you think it is about certain melodies and hooks that imprint on a listener's brain and causes that eagerness to listen to a catchy song over and over again? Why are some melodies more memorable than others? Hearing Iron Maiden's 'Run to the Hills' changed my life because the melody just infected me in a profound way. What happens to our brains to cause this? Do tell.

I have severe tinnitus from audio trauma (loud headphones + videogames and a 4X4 car horn in an underground carpark) and it does indeed suck. Its a loud and constant electrical buzzing in my head. My understanding of it is that the brain creates the noise due to damage in the inner ear. Keep protecting your ears, Justin. Once the hair cells in the inner ear die from noise damage, you cannot get them back.
