Life as a woman might be a bit better sometimes. Life as a man might be a bit better in other ways. But life as a trans person is almost never going to be an advantage.
@Roserytemptation10 ай бұрын
It's detrimental to folk's mental health who go through it but there are certain advantages in all walks off life when you're part of a protected group. I actually have a personal example of this: my parents run an antique shop/bizarre and within that we built a cafe. As more people started to turn up to use the cafe rather than just to browse the items from the various vendors we employed some waiting staff from the local college. That's when we met *Zena* changed her name obviously. We employed her and she worked with us fir about 3 months before leaving for university. During those three months Zena was late to work multiple times and when we spoke to her she said she was late because her mental health was suffering as a result of being trans (she was omly 18 too which is worth noting). So we spoke to our HR advisor (subcontracted) and they said we should make amendments to her contract so she could arrive later than usual (she was contracted to work 12 hours a week) so we did and Zena signed it. She ended up getting paid less as a result but whatever, her choice. I have never encountered that before though, normally if someone is late multiple times I a row we would let then go, but we were quite worried about being dragged into a employment tribunal because Zena was very ... gutsy shall we say and certainly knew her rights, which is fine obviously if anything it's encouraged but it's a bit annoying when someone's first point of conversation to you as the owner's son is "how the bosses screw me over" sort of thing. Anyway, we ask our employees not to use the customer bathrooms as there are limited toilet spaces and we have an employee-only bathroom (unisex). Zena used the customer toilet and went into the female bit - we asked her not to do this and she then said we had discriminated against her because she was trans and had told her to use the male bathroom... Are you starting to see where this is headed? Things certainly took a turn. We contacted the HR person AGAIN (2 times in a month over one employee which is unheard of for us) and they said that because the contract of employment didn't specify which toilets to use, if we asked her not to use those toilets it could be seen as discriminatory and essentially we just had to bite the bullet. We stopped using that HR person and signed up to another one. They said the same thing. Without wanting to change someone's contract twice in what was now 2 months, we just said that Zena could use whatever toilet she wanted. She left a month later. We have employed one other trans person since then and they were brilliant, I'm not at all suggesting that all trans people or protected groups do this sort of thing, but there is an issue with being part of a protected group that once some people are aware of that, they take things to the extreme and make your life very difficult. I worked at a corporate company years layer and they had an issue with an employee in one their stores who was always late, sick, didn't hit targets etc ... they let then go during their probation period and they got taken to court for racial discrimination and this company basically just paid them off (around £5-7k can't remember now) because it was cheaper than going to court. It later trnaspired that this individual had done this to their last 3 employers. Interesting. Obviously the sacking had nothing to do with their race, but it goes to show that again, there are people, albiet a tiny minority, who use the system to their advantage. So whilst I agree with you that being trans doesn't really offer any benefit and probably adds more negativity to your life than positivity, there are certain advantages of being in a protected class so to speak - would anyone falsely transition to gain these benefits? I doubt it, seems like a lot of effort to me, one of my best mates at college was a trans male and they had to wait 8 years for testosterone gel (from 20to 28) so it seems like a lot of effort to go through if you're not actually a trans person.

@TomsGarage00710 ай бұрын
I think they're just justifying transition to an extent with this terminology. Like someone might have an underlying repressed desire to be perceived in a more effeminate way but use the idea of "transmaxxing" to partially disassociate from it because justifying by saying "women have it better, and I can use for financial & social advantages" & "I suffer more as an effeminate man than as a woman (dating, emasculation, discrimination etc)" is alot easier to come to terms with than transness, especially considering the transphobia & general misogyny in the incel culture they emerged from. If they are eventually a happier person for it I don't personally see the problem, because if they spend their life long term as a women and prefer it, gaining a more fulfilling life in the process, I'd say that's just them successfully transitioning and generally improving themselves, not idiocy.
@LeaMumof310 ай бұрын
I was a very attractive young woman and I really dont think there were any benefits beyond having clothing comfortably and effortlessly fit. I was sexually harassed constantly. I was raped mutiple times, including by an employer. I was sexually assaulted by men on bith sides of my family and abandoned, declared a ward of state because men couldnt keep their hands off me. I lost jobs when I wouldnt return interest with male colleagues. I was treated unfairly by other female colleagues and all of my contributions were dismissed. I felt as though i always had to work harder than them. It was a curse for me. I am much happier in my mid 30s, aging and losing male focus. I feel safer.

Each gender has it's own advantages and disadvantages, but I find it quite sexist to say a women wants a successful man and she will doll herself up to do so. I will agree there are certain women who will do this but most women have better life goals then a rich husband 😅 it will be intresting to see if sammy or other transmaxing people choose to stay transitioned or will reverse when they see the grass isnt greener on the other side.

I doubt it, the only way they are is if he lied to them. To be given treatments you need to be diagnosed with gender disphoria, which this guy clearly doesn't have. If you've ever seen a real transgender person before their transition, you can see just by looking at them how depressing it is and how much it affects your life. Distress so chronic it is palpable and visible on your face, in your eyes, on your body. It's incredibly obvious. These are the people who would give everything to be the opposite sex, who would rather live as a malnourished female in a third world country with endometriosis than as the richest, most handsome, most powerful, and happiest male in the world (or vice versa). That is what a real transgender person would do; because for them, that would genuinely be the happier life. It's not for the benetifs. Unless he managed to sucessfully lie to the NHS for years on end, managed to sucessfully describe what dysphoria is like without help (though I suppose he could have looked it up, I don't think that's enough though, I'm intersex and that is the only reason I have any idea what it's like for a transgender person and I wouldn't wish it on anyone), and essentially con medical professionals trained to see through people lying to them about symptoms - I really think he is doing is on his own.

The bit with Julie was framed a bit weird ngl, but frankly yeah. I don't think the Trans community would inherently have a problem with this. No one's gonna do this unless they already are predisposed to a non-conformist gender identify. Furthermore, you're also not gonna just get with men if you're not somewhat into men anyway. If this is their reasoning for transitioning then yeah, fair enough. Being Trans is in no way easier than being cis, you take on a lot of hardship and sacrifice when you make the decision to transition and be open about if. If they can get through all that, and still be comfortable in their skin, with their life, with their partners, and with how society treats them, then yeah, fair enough. Even with the EDI things, yeah you can definitely argue the ethics of that from a transmaxxing perspective, but it just goes to further highlight a lot of the issues with our society in terms of why the EDI targets are necessary in the first place. i.e. why are people still being treated so differently based on things like gender identity, race, etc. And why indeed are male public toilets just so fucking disgusting? Like bros, seriously. Keep it in the bowl, clean up any spillage, and wash your hands. It ain't hard. The only issue the Trans community will have however, is if these cases are used to justify further mistreatment and vilification of trans people, and to justify making our live harder. On transitioning for the sake of snagging DEI jobs: "Who is it hurting?" - literally everyone involved. It hurts more deserving candidates. It hurts the employer and wider industry, having sub-optimal people filling roles. No matter how much copium these fail males huff, biological sex cannot be changed. Gender roles, however, can be. Western society was collectively getting to a point where we were starting to abolish traditional gender stereotypes, which is a good thing; but now we have gone backwards. In the beginning, Sammy described himself as failing to be masculine, but his reasoning was solely based on stereotypes of men. You can be a man and still be soft in demeanor and personality, strive to be a homemaker, be emotional, and have typically female interests, etc. Sammy can be an effeminate, male-attracted person, and that does not make him a "woman."

Females as a side effect of feminism got together after beginning to win legal equality and mostly did away with their traditional gender stereotypes. Nothing similar happened for males. Its not so much "we have gone backwards" it's more like females got to go 400 steps forward while for males it's just remained stuck mostly in the past.

Very likely that Sammy in the 1970s would've felt and been perceived as the perfectly acceptable 'non-masculine male' that he is. One word: Bowie. This regressive nonsense has existed for at least as long as sexism has, but ramped-up in the 70s and 80s by sociopathic child abusers like John Money, and really only gained traction in the 90s when incoherent word-salad gender-theorists like Judith Butler and her ilk started pushing the lie that performativity of stereotypical sex roles is what defines a man or a woman. I'm going to make a wild assumption here that Julie's views probably don't represent those of other trans people. Please correct me if I'm wrong. What I take from this documentary on what I think is a very niche concept, I hope so, is that we need to amplify more diverse representations of masculinity, for men to support other men and to make compliment giving between men normalised, to find more ways to include and not exclude men that they go down this path towards incel groups or Transmaxx ideology. As a cis gay man, I know the pressures that we can find ourselves under to be attractive to other guys, and I know from talking to some really lovely straight male friends how reluctant some of them are in talking to women and so they just don't - and instead they retreat to isolationism, solo hobbies and interests and drinking.

I think this whole topic is surprisingly complex. The "manifesto" has some points that relate to valid sourced of gender euphoria/dysphoria for trans women. Having E affect your emotions does cause gender euphoria for some. A lot of other points are very concerning and remind me of typical red pill incel/femcel rethoric (ie. "high-quality males.." "extract money from males") A lot of trans people will tell you that one of the hardest parts about their early journey was accepting that they are trans. (not realizing it, but accepting that) I can see how an egg who is in the incel sphere might stumble across this and use this as a excuse to "transition without dealing with the mental stress of accepting that they are trans" (or rather postponing that) A lot of people point out that Sammy's logic is inconsistent and its for that very reason. I think Sammy justifies decisions with calculated logic and min-maxing for quality of life, when a lot of the decisions are very subjective. Transitioning is not any easier than getting ripped in the gym. Being trans (or being perceived as trans) usually comes with a lot of disadvantages combine this with the disadvantages from whatever gender you're transitioning too and its unlikely that this wouldn't outweigh any potential benefits that gender might have. Also: Assuming you are cis and transition, it is very likely that you would develop a lot of dysphoria towards your new body. (Assume you'd wake up as a women tomorrow, how would you feel?) I for a "fully cis" person dealing with that dysphoria, would massively lower your quality of life (That's why people transition after all) I think this "transmaxxing" scene and its root in incel culture is very concerning, but I don't think all of the people within it are necessarily bad people and I think a lot of them that go "all the way" with it actually are trans, nb, genderfluid or similar. I agree with you on the necessity of a more diverse portrayal of masculinity, but it'll be a generational effort. For current generations the damage that is done is done, having men be "vulnerable" in public will only do so much. Its time for active unlearning, which sadly is very hard and emotionally stressing, but its possible.
