Very interesting! The takedown at 1:45 is a variation on hand-blocking (shóu bíe 手別 , a popular takedown in Chinese wrestling (shuaijiao 摔跤)and kung-fu. The one at 4:45 is a variation on another kung-fu move called “Removing the Helmet.” Not saying that Coach Murray studied Chinese martial arts, but some of his moves really resemble them. Very cool stuff!

Sanda’s most common takedowns are very analogous to Western wrestling despite them having their origins in Shuaio Jiao. The most efficient methods to take an opponent down get discovered again and again around the world apparently.

That’s a real grappling pro tip right there! The takedowns off the position have a really nasty pain compliance aspect too that I absolutely appreciate.
@tichtran6642 жыл бұрын
You definitely pin someone with that underhook move when you bring the opponent down to the ground. But you could also grab the arm(in the position that it in) and turned it into a double wrist lock/kimura lock. Basically a submission. Something not found in modern wrestling. This definitely shows the influence of it(freestyle and folkstyle wrestling) ancestor catch wrestling.

Fabulous stuff! At 4:30, when it is demonstrated how Coach Brian doesn't pull back from the double wrist hold to allow the underhook folding arm pin and guillotine, Coach Murray performs a beautiful circular Aikido kokyu nage! I notice that others comment how this action is also known in Chinese wrestling and Sambo. One of the best grappling channels out there, in which I also learn stuff from the comments! Thank you all, guys!

@kampar822 жыл бұрын
I'm here to prop up the channel, but also to comment. These would be excellent takedowns for self defense. At least where I live the assault on you is one court case, then there's the next court case where you have to defend your actions, everything has to be proportionate to the threat.

For sure that seems a little dangerous, so when you teach it you should make sure to go very fucking slowly! cause if a training partner fell the wrong way with a torqued chicken wing, thats already pretty much a joint lock itself, then the arm could snap by impact of the fall, if fell wrong, so the takedown portion especially needs to be controlled if practiced
