I recently got a couple friends into Strive. It's really hard to coach people by constantly mixing and beating their asses, so I took a different coaching approach. Basically I forced certain scenarios to happen, so stuff like chain grabbing to teach them they can grab a grab and always using my reversal after I got hard knocked down to show them baiting supers is super rewarding. I made sure to let them know the answers to this stuff instead of hoping they would just know. Once they figured it out, I did it less, but still often to let them get those punishes and feel rewarded. Rinse and repeat on basic mechanics until they understand what they need to know. Seeing your perspective in the new players shoes has opened up other coaching methods I want to use
@ThatDeltaboi5 ай бұрын
How my coach taught me was beat my ass consistently and he would play the same character I would like a mirror match up and eventually I picked up on what he was doing and now that I have been learning baiken he has found I can frame 1 baiken ult so I can't wait to show that off

@@ThatDeltaboi although that method can be decent for improvement, I reccommend you check out Dustloop. All you gotta do is learn the notations and you'll have all the info you need on a character to start playing and get to 10F. It's super easy and the creators of the site put extra effort into highlighting the core gameplay and combos for beginners. Plus, if you find a character annoying and want to do something about it, there's a "counterplay" section.

The doctor guy is Faust, also known as guilty gear's most chaotic character due to his random item toss (wich can either help him or his enemy in battle) and his strange way to move and attack (mostly rearanging his body parts in ways that defy human anatomy). Most players never have specific strategies when using him, because of that, he's also seen as a very unpredictable character.

Awesome video man! My advice is learn roman cancels its worth the meter to get out of a corner or continue a combo. I am not an expert by any means (i'll tell my love story below since im bored and wanna talk about me lol). But I can tell you roman cancels are important to learn. Also with elphelt (also my main) learn how to use 2S its a great counter tool and combo starter. I got hooked on strive like a month ago and still am hooked. I bought the game probably a year ago but never really played it. I regret putting it off till now. Watching Evo made me give it another try and its my favorite traditional fighter. I play melee. Thats my main game but this legitimately could take its place which is crazy since melee has been my love for many years. The more I play it the more I fall in love with it. I played a bit of SF6 but came to not be a big fan because its timing for a lot of combos is just weird to me. But Strive just feels right. Also learning about how the health system works and the guts mechanic is really cool. Basically if you're visually at 50% health you are actually at 70% health and then there is damage scaling which makes "magic pixel" comeback moments happen more often which is super cool. Anyways if I had advice to anyone just not getting into fighting games. I would honestly recommend starting with SF6. Its very good at teaching basic mechanics you will find in motion input fighting games and then branch out. You could also start with strive but I feel like it doesn't teach you much about core mechanics. Oh and get a leverless controller. I mean regular pad is fine too if you dont want to try something else. If you do though the Haute42 stuff is decent but my favorite has been the Mayflash F500 flat.

Actually what's really funny is I did start with SF6 I have a video on it too and I also since posting have gotten better at roman cancels and Faultless or Flawless Defense aswell I also appreciate that you enjoyed the video and the tips you gave me!

Idk if you’re new to fighting in general games or not, but you play pretty well for just picking up the game in a week’s span. Hope you keep playing it. Personally I think the hardest part of the game is learning how characters match up with each other bc they’re all so different and it can really vary. Then of course, they’re characters that you’ll struggle to fight against in general that’ll be frustrating, but everyone one has those. One thing that helped me learn a lot for me, was watching high levels/pro players and see how they play the character I'm playing and try incorporating some their stuff(its also just fun to watch them play at a high level period). Some of their combos are hard to pull off, especially for certain characters, but you'd surprised with how easy it is to learn some of them after you know the fundamentals of the character. At least thats how it was for me learning giovanna.

I am competitively Autistic (+OCD) so I wrote a fighting game curriculum to teach my friend some time ago, its incomplete and some parts are written poorly. I didn't write explanations because I was explaining the concepts to my friend in person. But if you want to learn the game long term at least you will have a resource that you can use to research the topics individually. Hope this helps: 1.Beginner ----------------- In Game Tutorials Buttons Movement Specials Supers Game specific mechanics Guilty Gear strive Roman Cancels Red Blue Purple Yellow Dust General Overview The three main pillars of any fighting game If you want to get good, focus on these three aspects: Neutral Offense Defense Neutral What is neutral The stage of a fight where neither player is blocking or getting hit by anything, and you are trying to figure out the best way to start or continue your game plan The goal in neutral Get a hit on your opponent to transition into offense, where your character is the strongest Get to your characters preferred range while also denying your opponent from doing the same Space control, zoning, getting in on opponent How to neutral Character based Find good pokes for your character Or just use an ability that neutral skips Playing with intention In fighting games, every button serves a purpose. Think of each attack as a tool to be used in a specific situation. You wouldn't use a wrench to screw a screw, it might look like it's working if you don't know any better, but there are infinitely better tools for the situation. What determines the usefulness of an attack is How fast it is If you hit your enemy first, then you win the exchange How much range it has Even if you have a super fast attack it's useless if it doesn't reach your opponent How much recovery it has Attacks that have long recovery are usually designed to have high risk high reward If you throw one of these and miss or it gets blocked, then you are in great danger These attacks are usually known as safe or unsafe What properties it has Some attacks have armor, invulnerability or good hit boxes that beat other attacks Neutral 101 Pokes The goal of throwing pokes in neutral, is to hit the enemy. Throw a poke only if you think it is going to hit Which means, don't throw attack randomly, you will get punished in higher levels for whiffing. You should also do the same thing. If your opponent is whiffing buttons in neutral, punish them. How to get in Run at your opponent Air movement Abilities Get a hit on opponent Anti airs 6P or 2H Guilty Gear Offense 101 Mixups Strike/Throw Meaty attacks Safe/unsafe moves Defense 101 Blocking Invincible Reversals Guilty Gear: Faultless defense 2. Advanced Beginner -------------------------------------- General Conditioning Neutral 201 Controlling space Offense 201 Turns Resets Okizeme Strike/Throw Left/Right High/Low mix-up Set-play Safe Jumps Defense 201 Abare Fuzzy block 3. Intermediate ------------------------- General Growth mindset Playing with intention Loosing is inevitable Loosing is fun -Sun Tzu (He did not actually say this) Loosing is inevitable, sometimes you will loose even if you do your absolute best. All you can do is to accept this reality. Do not let this bother you. (As long as you have a growth mindset and keep practicing, you will eventually get to a high level.) Neutral 301 Confirms Footsies Air to air Whiff punishing Offense 301 RPS Thick throws Layers Defense 301 Dealing with throws Always playing safe is bad Don't just block, take risks Game specific defensive mechanics Guilty Gear: Yellow Roman Cancel Deflect Shield 4. Advanced ------------------- General Mental stack Being predictable Doing the same few strong options is actually bad How to adjust Being efficient Learning matchups Neutral 301 Option selects in neutral Hit conversation Hit confirming Buffering Offense 301 Option selects in offense Risk reward Anti fuzzy setups Defense 301 Option select in defense Challenging Forcing respect (By challenging gapped offense/resets) Taking the throw Guilty Gear: Instant Block 5. Master ------------------- ??? (I am not a master yet) 0. Mentality ------------------- Combos don't matter There is an answer to everything your opponent does, you just need to find the right answer. Winning or loosing is not important, the goal is not winning, the goal is improving. Focus on Improvement Remember Ryu's arcade mode ending from SF2? Yea, exactly Focus on improving at the game, the score will take care of itself Quote () There is no guarantee, no ultimate formula for success. It all comes down to intelligently and relentlessly seeking solutions that will increase your chance of prevailing. When you do that, the score will take care of itself. The actual quote Some things are outside of your control, focus on what you can control. Say you train archery for years, you do everything to ensure you hit the target, you release the arrow and it goes off course because of wind. Should you get angry and upset that you didn't hit the mark? Of course not, you have no control over the wind. You did everything right but you couldn't achieve your goal. Instead of getting upset, you must simply accept that this happened and will surely happen once again in the future, then move on knowing you have no control over some things. You don't get stronger by simply playing the game for long. The only way to improve is actively trying to improve. Try to find your mistakes, and try to find solutions If you don't know what the issue is, ask people, watch matches of good players, watch educational videos on YT. You might stumble upon a solution or learn something new that might cover that weakness until you do find a solution. You don't need to get better as fast as possible, take it slow, learn as many things as you can and enjoy the journey. Combos don't matter; game sense, strategy are far more valuable. Its OK for a game or character to have strong strategies or options. Instead of complaining, find ways to play around them. You probably have options that your opponent hates just as much. Reaction time is not important Doing the same few strong options is bad If your offense is flowcharty, then you will become predictable. Good players will punish you for this Your flowcharty offense means enemy can flowchart their defense. Something has to give
