So I graduated airforce bmt and one of the things we are required to do is to surrender our phones and go 8 weeks without them and when I graduated and I got it back and while I was happy to have it back I walk down town near my base and I try to talk to random people because I got used to saying hello to anyone on base and find it sad to see everyone so glued to their phones that they can't even say hello to someone, everyone my age think I'm insane because I can go a few months without my phone and not worry about it I even talked to a girl that said to me( I would rather fight someone and go to jail than to give up my phone) we have become slaves to our devices and it saddens me of all the things people my age could experience so many incredible things and talk to people on a completely different level of we just put our phones away and look at someone and talk to them without distractions.

I’m in high school. My school have banned all smartphone use during school hours. I live in New Zealand, so I’m not sure of how the situation is in the US - but I can honestly say I feel so much better. I see kids in other schools glued to their phones all day and it only makes me wonder how much content they are missing out on and opportunities they miss by neglecting their education. Don’t get me wrong, I see the benefits of smartphone use as I do use it to research/expand, but also for entertainment and personal use, which is of course restricted to weekends due to homework. Having a phone is extremely useful, but as a teenager, I don’t have business calls, emails, important texts and notifications to respond to - so having one turned on in school is pointless. 8hours per day without a phone, the other 8 or so I’m sleeping. This leaves 8hours for leisure, homework, travel, sport, socialising and of course phone use. I don’t use my phone much on the weekends either. People think it’s odd that my school have banned phones and many see it as unlucky - but I would much rather have this now as I can maximise my potential and work towards a bigger goal. Being a teenager in these modern times, if you don’t have a mobile phone you’re seen as odd, which I agree with to a point. Before the ban on phones in school, I was using it for 7hours a day, now I’m down to 1-2hrs screentime on weekdays and around 3-4 on weekends. I have found myself getting better sleep, feeling more refreshed in the morning and my problems with getting to sleep were nearly gone, despite still using my phone less than 90mins before bed. My grades, physical and mental health all improved and I’m feeling fitter than ever. For someone who reluctantly signed a contract with my parents and the school at the beginning of last year, I am happier than ever and have never wished the school changed its policy. Many kids try to break the rules, but if you’re found on your phone at school it is confiscated for a week and the second offence parents are called. Although it’s annoying to get the feeling of “missing out” during the day, there are odd opportunities where you could quickly check notifications for 5seconds just for peace of mind if that really bothered you. I seriously recommend that other schools adopt a similar policy towards phones as it was met with open arms by all parents. Of course, kids bend the rules - but as a general rule we don’t use them all day/throughout lunch as we simply aren’t allowed to. I’m actually glad it’s that way too.

i just stopped teaching college last year after 20 years. Over the last 10 years, my job became so much harder and i really felt like the biggest challege is students reading. The job became so much worse b/c of all the use of the Internet and esp social media, then the phones are another barrier. I realize that tech is neutral but most humans in the modern world cannot control themselves to only use this tech to further their education. It would amaze me that no one bothered looking up words even with a phone right in their hand!

I lived abroad, on the other side of the world for me, and I deleted loads of apps and limited my phone time to a total of 2 hours per day. 1 hour with internet and 1 hour on airplane mode but for pre-downloaded maps etc since it was a foreign country. I never realized how much my sleep and mental health impacted from it, I kept it up for a year until I got sick for over a month and ended up on my phone alot. Before that, when I woke up...I woke up. I was awake. When I use my phone alot I am only half awake for two hours. After seeing this it's reminded me how positive that part of my life was, so maybe I can cultivate those lessons again and get back to a more positive balance 🌞🌞🌞

Thank you for the video! I will try a similar challenge myself, only with a few differences. Starting today I will: 1) Challenge will last for 2 weeks (until the end of January), so that I can get a feel for how it works. 2) No computer games, no KZbin, no online entertainment example: 9gag, Netflix, porn. 3) I will use my computer for studies and music only. 4) I am only allowed to use Facebook maximum 15 minutes per day to check the Calendar, and to read/post news to my study community. 5) Cell phone : Only used for study, music, contacting friends and family. TL:DR - I will heavily restrict my internet usage and screen time over the course of 2 weeks.

This video is really well edited. And yeah, I really wanna limit my phone usage time but in lockdown it's so hard. On top of that, I use it for everything. If I wanna read a book, it'll be cheaper as an ebook. If I wanna write, I use note apps. It sounds a bit disingenuous but I would prefer to live in a world without phones.

You have inspired me because I am so addicted to my phone. I am disabled & moved out in the middle of nowhere 50 minutes from a town & have no friends. My phone never leaves my hand & I sleep with it on my pillow because we have no radio, no TV, no satellite dish & no computer. For medical reasons I have to have it with me 24/7 but I now turn it off when I go for my daily walks & while I ride in the car. I can not lock it up but I can set more goals to reach each week or each month. Thank you.

I use focus app to stop distraction. Usually I set the timer of 8hrs with no break mode which means that I can not use phone for that time period. If I switch my phone off thinking that now the timer won't work, it does not happen.
