@@shanehickey9022 Most of them are between 85 and 92 Kg. Above that no matter how strong you are the gymnastics will take a big hit due your bodyweight, and despite you usually can have 1-2 heavy lifting exercises in the Crossfit Games (like a deadlift or a clean ladder) most of the workouts are a mix between pure cardio and mid weight lifting, so endurance scores a lot more points than just being the strongest at static lifts. Although can be argued that Decathlon is equally valid to define "fittest on Earth" and the talent pool and money involved is much larger.

Being fit is a amorphous concept. One person thinks fit is strength, another endurance. I used to lift a lot. Strength was my fitness measurement. Then i got into road cycling and it changed my whole concept. As soon as i understood how hard it is to maintain a certain wattage over a whole course AND charge through uphill sections, to me fit changed to endurance. And not just endurance, but being able to maintain while putting out a lot of power. So its a measure of your VO2 Max and lactate thresholds. Now i view Tour De France and pro cycling as some of the fittest people alive. I can appreciate what they do. But Matt is a freak and deserves all of the accolades he has.

Many of the cyclists that do The tour de France are extremely unhealthy though and suffer from low bone density, lack of muscle mass resulting in emaciation, and lack the capacity to do basic ballistic movements or weightlifting. Many are underweight and suffer from eating disorders. Obviously they have great endurance and the ability to sustain high levels of pain. Similarly many Strongmen and Powerlifters are obese have little aerobic or endurance capacity and overconsume food to stay at high body mass. They suffer greatly for their sport but not sure how 'fit' they are. Those are very narrow definitions of fitness and instead I'd say they excel at their individual sport. Crossfit defines fitness as increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. Capacity is the ability to do real work, which is measurable using the basic terms of physics (mass, distance, and time). They use 10 physicals skills to judge fitness including cardio/endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy. For the general population being balanced in these areas is a good indicator of fitness rather than hyper-specialization required for a sport. This is an interesting foundational article on the matter from a Crossfit perspective: journal.crossfit.com/article/what-is-fitness. Don't get me wrong I love sport but I'm just attempting to make fitness a less amorphous concept.

I've enjoyed watching Matt over the years. Dedicated, principled, great human. I started working out at 10, over 5 decades later still kicking it, learned a ton. Crossfit is a blast to watch but brutal on the body. Despite peds, anti-inflammatory practices, and thoughtful warm-ups, crossfit workouts compress your vertebrae over time, wears down your ligaments and tendons, and positions you strongly for diminished mobility in your 50's and beyond. No disrespect to the crossfit movement. A tight culture with great energy, great people, who are living with integrity, all good. Crossfit is a recovery sport that unfortunately narrows the wonderful emotional and physical benefits of working out to a grind and recovery "sport". Training should invigorate your life. Max lifts and PR's are unsustainable pursuits with huge lifelong detrimental impacts. Workouts in the 40% to 80% zone allow all physical and emotional benefits, minimizes lifelong injuries, leaves energy for daily and other fun / family activities, and safeguards your recovery and immune systems. I was 180 lbs when I was in the Marine Corps, lifting, wrestling, boxing daily. Loved it all and absolutely loved the combative arts for 10 years. Went on to coach wrestling, awesome experience coaching and supporting young people. Intense, grind it out workouts were my bread and butter for decades. They came with huge costs. Crossfitters are under the impression that they can avoid the downside of body crunching, grind till you can't workouts with chemical support and thoughtful programming. Neither is true nor sustainable. Working out hard is not the challenge, never was. Balancing sustainable, enjoyable workout sessions with systemic recovery is the true challenge and mission for lifelong benefits. It's a huge mindset change, but I did it, and it's been life changing. All my best to the crossfit community. I love watching all of you put it all on the line. Your dedication and effort is literally super human. Turns out, you pay a huge price for being superhuman, with lifelong downsides. Life is short and as you age you'll look back and re-evaluate the effects of body crunching crossfit workouts on your health. The athletic choices you make in your 20's and 30's will determine your vigor, strength, and mobility in your 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's. Crushing PR's in your 30's may inhibit your ability to move with freedom in your 70's. Workout with wisdom. I want all crossfitters to fully enjoy the benefits of strength, mobility, and stamina that will allow every athlete great health today, and into their later decades.

Dude that was hard as shit for a beginner (and no beginners of course). No matter how strong you are, most of these movements were new to you, but you did great! The workouts can be easier though, its not either this or just walking for 10 minutes.

As a CrossFitter I enjoyed this video so much! We get a lot of hate for the sport by people who sacrifice technique for time. If you focus on form and technique you’ll excel! Always fun to see people realize how hard it is! Great video!
