@prizegotti3 жыл бұрын
I really wish you would read instructions properly Barry; from the manual: "When the water is boiling, slightly submerge the moulds for 8-10 seconds." NOT 2 MINUTES. That's why they float, because you're only supposed to dip for a few seconds and take them out. The purpose of the baking soda is to kick start the maillard reaction to help it brown. Alternatively you can use sugar for the same effect. Also, Bagels aren't supposed to be crusty until after you toast them, they're supposed to have a smooth soft finish.

There's a similar kind of jar opener to that one that I've seen before that I think might be better. It's called the EZ Off Jar Opener. You can mount it to the bottom of your upper cabinets so it's always out of the way, but available whenever you need it, won't take up any space in a gadget drawer, and since you use both hands to push and turn instead of one, it'll probably be better for people with grip strength issues.

The Bagel will always float because there is air in the dough, you're still gonna need to flip them over. with the Witch's hat, you might be able to execute a sort of "Dunk, Pull, Flip" kind of thing, but you're still gonna need a spoon or something to pull them out at the end of the boiling step. Another positive is that having the bagel rest on the Witch's Hat does help it keep it's shape, as it is easier to go straight down, though, a large, round metal skimmer would do the same thing, and is more useful around the kitchen.

Tips on running a chocolate fountain: 1) As you Brits would call it, the washing up after you're done with the fountain means using a fair amount of paper towels, because, as we all know, chocolate likes to seize when it hits water. 2) Rather than pouring the chocolate in on the side, I've always found more success pouring it over the tower, with the motor running. With oil added in to your chocolate, you should have no problems 3) You know you have enough chocolate when you have all levels flowing a solid curtain of chocolate. The entire idea is to hold whatever you're coating in chocolate in the curtain, rather than dipping it in the pool. The reason being that the curtain is more gentle, while the pool dip could cause pieces of food to break off and sully the chocolate, possibly clog the pipe. 4) It's not limited to chocolate. You can add brown sugar, caster sugar, honey, or golden syrup to creamy peanut butter and have a sweet peanut butter fountain. Just know that you will have to heat it a little beforehand, just not as long as the chocolate. 5) You can also use the fountain for cheese sauce, gravy, or anything else that's a smooth sauce. I once saw one at a ritzy brunch that was cascading hollandaise. Amazing. Yes, I have done this before. In university, I was part of the student leadership, hosted a lot of functions, made sure to use some of the department budget to level-up the quality. And then other departments all wanted to borrow them. Good thing I had them label-etched, or they'd get lost in some cupboard in the uni board's office or something.
