What do you guys think about the Ford Mustang Mach E? Would you consider one when shopping for a new EV? Or are there better options out there?
@mrjonlorАй бұрын
Love my Mach E. I’ve got a ‘23 GT and it is so much fun to drive! I share your criticism on the charging display. I feel like it’s either Ford trying to downplay the fact that it is an EV or it is a limitation of the Sync 4 architecture that makes it hard for them to display that information.
@LeftCoastEVАй бұрын
I will need to drive the GT next. I want to see how well this Ford EV architecture does with more power. Plus I love the look of the GT. It’s sporty yet very refined. They will need to look into implementing charging speed on the display, this is a huge miss and if it means upgrading Sync 4 to something newer they should do it. Thanks for watching!

@@LeftCoastEV The way I put it is this…”The Premium is fast. The GT just wants to do crime.” The MagnaRide suspension is really nice (although it would be nice if it was more configurable) but the power is…simply over the top. It’s far too easy to look down and realize you’re doing 140km/h…

That sounds like a fun car. Will have to try it now for sure!

Don't buy a Mach-e, it's the worst car that I ever bought, and can't even sell it cause it lost more than 55% of it's value in less than 3 years, bought it new at $72000 on January 2021, and now it only have a value of $29000, and that doesn't count all the freaking problems I had with it so far... so if you have a chance, take your bag and run as fast as you can out of Ford dealer and buy any other car on the market 😉 and if you absolutely want one and can sell you mine for 3 time the value and I can get rid of mine for good 👍

I really like the Mach E. Well built and very comfortable. If I were shopping for an EV I would consider the 2025 upgraded version.

Definitely a consideration when shopping for a new EV.

I have a 2024 Premium and let me tell you, its better than Tesla, to start with Insurance Tesla is twice more expensive, Mach E is built much better than Tesla, With Adapter u can Use Tesla chargers and regular charges and it just looks better
@LeftCoastEVАй бұрын
Totally agree with you. Supercharger access is what elevates these cars even more. For me the addition of a heat pump for 2025 is another selling point since I live in northern Canada and it gets very cold here. Overall I think this is a great car and used prices are very competitive right now if someone is looking for a second EV.

I work for a car rental company as a driver relocating vehicles between offices and repair shops, a few weeks ago I got too move a Mack-E from Port Angeles to Gig Harbor WA. It was a very nice vehicle to drive as I'm more of an Analog person, my daily driver is an '86 Isuzu Trooper. Other than the glass roof I'm a fan, I managed to get the speed zone recognition turned off while driving.

Ford builds very intuitive EVs that even people who have never driven an electric car before can get to grips with. That was a nice drive you did, through some of the nicest parts of the Pacific Northwest. Really miss going on road trips there!

One of the best things about the Rally edition is no glass roof. (At least for me)

That charger you used is powered by a backup battery in the container to the rear left when facing the terminals. Maximum charging won’t be achieved as the batteries deplete on a busy day. I guess the idea is that the battery allows faster charging without the expense of a really large connection to the electric network. The charger has been super reliable for me, the company is called Jules and if you look at the terminals they are shaped like the letter J.
@LeftCoastEV6 күн бұрын
Good info thank you! I really liked the design of the terminal and now that you mention it I do see the letter J. I’m guessing this is similar technology to that Freewire used to offer before they went bankrupt. I would have to check that the battery capacity is on these chargers as the Freewire ones were around 160 kWh and would run out quick in busy locations.

I have a 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally edition. Driving the car puts a smile on my face every time. I agree with the other comment, there might have been some derate based on all 4 in use. Also, the updated curve has 38 KW at 80% (up from 14 KW). On my road trips and testing, the 38-40 KW will be held to about 93% where it will drop to ~25 KW. I wish it charged just a bit faster, but it is good enough.
@LeftCoastEV9 күн бұрын
I’m a huge fan of the Rally edition. As a kid when I watched the WRC and saw the Ford Escort RS Cosworth in races I was in love. The Mach E Rally comes close in spirit to this in the EV era.
@LorwildroseАй бұрын
Looks like the charger is de-rating because they’re all being used. My Mach e 2023 got an update that has made the charger curve way better! Starts off high then I saw it drop to 129Kw until 79% then it dropped to 79-80kw until about 85% when I unplugged. With the std LFP 10 to 80% on an Tesla charger in Alberta with Tesla account is $22.00. Basically Double that if you use plug and charge.
@LeftCoastEVАй бұрын
I think you are right. It was a combo of cold battery and charger de-rating (CCS DC fast charging infrastructure is really lacking in Ontario). I really like the Mach E will need to get my hands on the 2025 updated version with the heat pump. It will do much better for us in Alberta for efficiency.

I couldn't sustify buying a ford electric in my town since my dealer had an EV charger at their location then took it away.
@LeftCoastEVАй бұрын
Yeah I would also lose respect for that dealer so I agree with you. Putting in a charger and then taking it away is a bad look for sure. I can imagine they got some sort of subsidy or tax break and once it was all paid to them they didn’t think it necessary to continue supplying EV charging services. I don’t blame you for not wanting to purchase a Ford due to that sort of experience.
@Wiseguy1138Ай бұрын
Those chargers are amazing. We have them at one of our Real Canadian SuperStores in Ottawa. So far I've only ever had one bad experience with them but otherwise they work great. But yes they are expensive. With my 2023 Kia Soul EV I can use the 100kW/h speed (although I usually just stick with the 50kW/h speed to save a bit of money). I wish they had more locations throughout the province. The company that runs the chargers is actually called JULE, as indicated on my email receipts I get from them after you disconnect the charger (you can choose to get an email receipt). Ivy works in a pinch but they're not great. And Electric Circuit chargers are old, slow, and don't work all that great. Only good thing about those is you can use a Flo balance on them. Ontario, and Ottawa specifically, needs MUCH BETTER charging infrastructure.
@LeftCoastEVАй бұрын
I really liked these chargers. Best thing was I was able to just use my credit card without the need to download an app and go through all the hoops just to charge. They should really expand their network in Ontario. I also tried the Ivy and am not a fan haha.

Great Video man... I've had my MY23 MME for 6 months, and it's the best car I've owned....& I've owned plenty. Mine is the Select model, and I couldn't be happier. The pricing of the Premium here in Australia made the step-up unattractive, but I haven't regretted that decision. I'm about to fit a customised DashCam (it looks like OEM) from FITCAMX - a really cool & affordable addition IMHO. I only wish Ford followed Tesla's lead and used the multitude of cameras on the car for DVR. As you noted, there's even a camera inside the car, but what's it do..?...is it a DVR..?...& where do I access a recording? A missed opportunity. Maybe they'll update the software one day to facilitate this feature.
@LeftCoastEVАй бұрын
Glad you liked the video! I heard of FITCAMX and the reviews are pretty decent especially since the fit is almost OEM. Much better a camera dangling from behind the rearview mirror. I have not figured out what the internal camera is for yet but maybe this will be revealed in the future with a software update. I think they want to have a similar system to Tesla with being able to view car cameras from the app or even some sort of DVR functionality. I’m guessing it’s still a ways away due to software development. The interior camera is definitely not a driver monitoring tool, this is already fitted at the steering wheel. Just need to stay tuned and see what Ford figures out. Thanks for watching!

I got the 2024 and i love it alot of the hate comes from the legacy but in NV i paid $18 for a month of charging. Its definitely not the most top tier EV but its also not the most expensive. Got a good lease deal and i enjoy it soo much that i am considering getting another EV after. If they update some features id get another mach e no question
@LeftCoastEVАй бұрын
Glad you enjoy the Mach E! The new 2025 model will have a heat pump which comes in handy during cold weather and makes the car more efficient. It will also have faster DC fast charging. What are some of the things you hate about it?
@cpanlilio7955Ай бұрын
@LeftCoastEV honestly just the infotainment screen a bit laggy when first starting up the car. Glitches out, restarts on its own. I think that they fixed it in the 2025. I live in a warmer climate so the heat pump wasn't necessarily a deal breaker for me. The only thing I wish I would have done differently is get the extended range but in 3 years I think they will have made some positive long term changes to ev range 🤞🏻

Significantly less range and less efficient than the Chevrolet Bolt I bought for $10k less for a used one at around 15k miles. No, this doesn't tick my boxes. Not too sure it pleases gas Mustang owners to have their cars associated with this.
@LeftCoastEVАй бұрын
I can see how this car you either love or hate. Just like I mentioned in the video, it was and continues to be very controversial. I am always amazed by how efficient the Bolt is compared to all the other EV offerings out there. I always tell my friends and family that charging speed and all that does not matter as much as efficiency does…if you can travel longer distances on one charge you won’t have to spend a lot of time charging, so for me efficiency is king. Thanks for your thoughts, appreciate it!
@ziploc2000Ай бұрын
@@LeftCoastEV I see the newer models do better on range, though for efficiency the bolt is still ahead, not that surprising since it is smaller and significantly lighter. Not to say the Mach-E is a bad car, just not what I was looking for in an EV. We wanted a small economical hatchback for round-town driving, with the capability of a longer trip, maybe to the coast (we're in Oregon). The Mach-E is too much car for my needs.

88kw/min = ~.30 to.32 cents/kwh! That's really cheap! I'll take it! 50kw = .83 kwh, so about 60cents/kwh! The 50kw charging speed is way more expensive! My M3 can accept 150kw/min average from about 0 to 50% so I'd be paying about 17cents per kw up to 50% SOC!
