I couldn't sustify buying a ford electric in my town since my dealer had an EV charger at their location then took it away.
@LeftCoastEV3 сағат бұрын
Yeah I would also lose respect for that dealer so I agree with you. Putting in a charger and then taking it away is a bad look for sure. I can imagine they got some sort of subsidy or tax break and once it was all paid to them they didn’t think it necessary to continue supplying EV charging services. I don’t blame you for not wanting to purchase a Ford due to that sort of experience.
@dmunro90764 сағат бұрын
88kw/min = ~.30 to.32 cents/kwh! That's really cheap! I'll take it! 50kw = .83 kwh, so about 60cents/kwh! The 50kw charging speed is way more expensive! My M3 can accept 150kw/min average from about 0 to 50% so I'd be paying about 17cents per kw up to 50% SOC!

Looks like the charger is de-rating because they’re all being used. My Mach e 2023 got an update that has made the charger curve way better! Starts off high then I saw it drop to 129Kw until 79% then it dropped to 79-80kw until about 85% when I unplugged. With the std LFP 10 to 80% on an Tesla charger in Alberta with Tesla account is $22.00. Basically Double that if you use plug and charge.
@LeftCoastEV14 сағат бұрын
I think you are right. It was a combo of cold battery and charger de-rating (CCS DC fast charging infrastructure is really lacking in Ontario). I really like the Mach E will need to get my hands on the 2025 updated version with the heat pump. It will do much better for us in Alberta for efficiency.

Just bought a 2025 Kona electric preferred. I really like the car, but even if they told me at the dealer's service that this trouble has been fixed since last year. I hope they are right, but having worked in the automobile business (dealers and private garages, don't necessarely trust them...), I did buy a jump starter, just like you did. And I put it in the frunk (where the 12V battery is anyway), because if I put it in the back trunk, I won't be able to access it! Now, I am curious of a few things about the 12V batterry going dead. Many posts the low voltage of the battery. But how about the acid level? Is it low? Meaning here, the battery has been overcharged. And if not, what is the acid density of each of the cells? Because that will say if one cell is bad or if the battery has been undercharged. You may simply have a bad or shorted cell which will produce the same result. Assuming that the cells are accessible to check the acid density or simply refill the battery with distilled water, just like most lead-acid batteries. The 2025 Kona has a 60 AH rating, while the older one's had 40AH, as far as I know. If I ever get into problems, I will probably install an AGM battery. Thanks for the video.
@LeftCoastEV2 күн бұрын
When I had this issue I tried checking the levels and they didn’t appear to be accessible. I didn’t want to go further as I am not a mechanic and make things worse. This is why I now carry the jump starter but unfortunately I don’t have a frunk so need to carry it inside the car. Thanks for watching and your input, much appreciated!

I just bought a used 2022 as a second car and was looking for some more info on it, found your channel. I don't get the same impressive consumption.. Could it be tires? Car came with some generic allseason (not ev specific) and 33psi.. What was yours inflated at?
@LeftCoastEV16 күн бұрын
Tires are always the thing that will make or break efficiency especially in EVs. The tires I had during that video were the stock ones that came with the car when I bought it: Nexen Npriz AH8. I ran them at 35 PSI as suggested by the manufacturer. So make sure to always buy EV rated tires. The Nexen were not EV rated but still very efficient. For winter driving now I use the Nokian EV tires. Expensive but good. Also make sure your regen settings are at 3 which is the max. Finally it all depends on your driving style and speed. I find that on the highway the Kia is most efficient at 115 km/h when driving faster. Anything more than this burns more juice. Hope this helps.
@gnumel16 күн бұрын
@LeftCoastEV yes I am considering the new Nokian All Weather for ev, set the pressure a bit high (to the top of what recommended) and keep them year round, only lowering pressure a bit in case of heavy snow.

Those are excellent tires and if you get the EV version then there will be foam inserts to reduce noise which is always a plus.

Greetings from a fellow Canadian. Last year my wife and I flew to Hong Kong and then spent a few nights in Shenzhen before making our way to Changchun. I was 67 at the time, and will soon be 68. I'm not sure if my age would make me ineligible to get a drivers license in China. I don't have any health issues. Also, if a license was acquired in Shenzhen for instance, is it valid for other locations in China? My wife is from China, and most of our travelling was done by train, bus, Didi, and my stepsons vehicle. It would have been nice to be able to rent a car or scooter at times. I assume that insurance would have to be purchased at the vehicle rental location. Thank you for the video 🙂.
@LeftCoastEV25 күн бұрын
The main prerequisite to get this Chinese license is having a valid license from Canada (or your home country). If you have one, age does not matter. Also, these licenses are valid in all Chinese provinces so you can drive in Changchun. Finally, when you rent a car always get the extra insurance. We always took their full coverage and it was very cheap. Nothing to worry about if you get into an accident or the car is stolen. I would suggest getting the license in Shenzhen. Like I said in the video, Shenzhen is the most progressive and easy going place to get this done in China. Let me know if you have any other questions!
