Massive amount of work Darren. A huge house that needs a whole lot done to it. No better man to sort it out though. The boiler over the bath is lethal. Years ago I had to kick in the door of a communal bathroom. Found a guy unconscious on the floor. The pilot light on the gas boiler over the bath had gone out. The vent behind the boiler had slipped down covering the exit hole. The guy was very lucky he didn't die.

This is so sad , I’m shocked at the scale of the property but also, imagine destroying a property and not taking accountability because they cut corners , the fact the builders thought they could get away with it blows my mind because, how could they think they could even make it upstairs without the ground swallowing them up , looking forward to this entire build , the importance of a good engineer and architect is a must .

So glad your back! i know it is hard for the owner, and very expensive, so appreciate their delay(s) but this is such great advertising for yourself and your firm. Bit sad its ending up being a rental but cant wait until the end result.

Hi Darren, Back to the cowboy build house.. you have my undivided attention 👌🏼 very interesting stuff, the interview with the owners son will be very revealing I’m sure looking forward to this journey, any chance of a costing analysis and time scale during your endeavours Happy constructing 😀 My estimation is about £800k- £1M
@reelspilltv6 күн бұрын
Is £800,000 - £1,000,000 your estimation on the value of the house or your estimation of the repair cost?
@jamiekent19706 күн бұрын
@ repair cost including work already achieved.. I understand its an insurance project. These types of jobs look expensive.. 🥹 That house is probably worth £1.3m Three story town house Its just an opinion nothing to get upset or over excited about 😂

I can't believe the weight that the skinny pillar on the ground floor would have been holding, and the other work you already fixed/ made safe. Had those cowboy builders carried on working there, someone would have been badly injured or worse. You guys will get this sorted though !!

A real nightmare how far the building has dropped. I hope it can't go any further. One of those cases where I know it isn't possible but taking it down and starting again and giving decent side access to the rear seems like a much saner option.

Gas runs could be an issue. Would need 3 seperate meters, one for each property. Seperate pipe runs, you have to run them all in the hallway into each flat so none are running thru another property, they would need boxing in with the box venting to atmosphere. Or they are run externally into each apartment which can look ugly. Or rip out all gas and put unvented cylinders off immersion heaters, hope the project goes well

@garymckeon54106 күн бұрын
a lot of these 3 story victorian properties are massive , have lots of them in brighton near where im from , absolute nightmares for damp , hard to heat because of high celiings and draughty sash windows which are expensive to maintain or replace properly . to convert people usually build a false wall to make a small passage and an out ward opening door near the start of the stairs for each level making it very difficult to move bigger things in and out a sofa for example . its why they often get rented out to students and are in really poor condition from my experience . then in areas that have money in brighton/hove who can afford to maintain the property properly and live in them themselves they are really really nice , original wooden flooring very spacious allowing the good air flow that is required and they look beautiful .

Bloody hell Darren, you'd be better off demolishing the whole house & starting all over again . The amount of work & time this is going to take is mind boggling let alone the money, this is going to cost a lot more than expected mate. What's the cost of underpinning these days ??

you can't start fresh without clearing the site, imagine how many skips and weeks of work to take down all that masonry! and pallets of new blocks are costly too.

Someone has to do it it’s attached to two other properties and eventually will compromise theirs , you can’t just tear it all down it has to be fixed meticulously like a puzzle as there’s shared walls , it’s not a free standing house.
