PS5 Digital Teardown & Comparison - After months of trying I've finally been able to buy a PS5 Digital Version! In this video I'm taking it apart and comparing it to the PS5 Disc version. Most of it is exactly the same...but there are some differences.

Hey do you think you can help me, my Nintendo right joycon just suddenly stopped working while I was playing a game. The sync button isnt working and the LEDs arent even showing up. It isn't working both handheld nor attached to the Nintendo😪. I have a bit of experience with fixing devices myself, but I have never seen something like. Please give me some advice on what to do if you can. I would suspect it's the either something to do with the rail or the battery in the joycon is spoilt. Thank You so much if you can help. Well you literally read my mind as I was watching. I'm more curious to know if they locked the hardware like apple does with phones these days. Or if you really can just add the parts needed, and Frankenstein a Disc version from a digital version. Because lets face it in a few years, you know you're gonna buy a box of parts here, a box of parts there, and hey presto you made a working console from an amalgamation of spares.

If they do lock it (which it likely is) I wouldn't be suprised whatsoever. The ps3 and 360s drives were locked, same with the launch ps4s and all xbox ones/series x consoles.

I did that with my PS3. The hard part was getting a Blu-Ray drive that would pair with my motherboard. But it works now.

Could work but the ps5 digital doesn't have disc options like the ps5 disc version but then it might detect it and do an upgrade or you need a dev kit

I've taken apart a couple of Dualsense controllers and I've noticed that there are two different types. One type has orange analoge sticks the other has blue ones. One hast Blue ribbon cables for the triggers and the other hase green ones. One has a touchpad with a very fine pattern, the other one has a square pattern. But the rest is identical

1:13 could you cut a bit of the shield off to expose the ribbon cable to make it accessible? Or some kind of extension to make the connector accessible so you could clean out the heatsink?

Great video man By the way 3:20 i think these are liquid thermal pads they use them in places with odd thickness I found some in my msi ge75 raider they were used on the vram modules and voltage regulators near the GPU I don't think they can be used on a cpu/gpu because there thermal conductivity isn't great they typically used on low heat generating components.

Actually apart from color differences, there are components missing on the front side in the area of the missing connectors. So it's unlikely going to work unless you move those components as well.

Yes it would be interesting to see if it works with a disc drive, that would also give you the chance to see if the disc version works if you take the drive out. Becuase i think they should both work, i'm pretty sure the OS doesnt care if you have a disc drive or not, if not it will just don't show the option, if yes, it will work like it should with a drive... in theory, maybe the drive is also coded to the mainboard, ... i'm curious!

Hunt around on known modding forums for a flashing tool for the drive and then see if there is a way to modify the drive to work or even a universal patch to allow the new drive to work.. chances are it's a little too soon to say but you never know in the right circles.

Starting at 6:00 about 1-2 inches below the top-left corner is a chip with 4 resistors to the right of the chip on the disk board and none on the digital board. I think you missed that when looking at the 2 boards. 8-)

Yes please, do it! Solder those rubbing conectors on the motherboard and try it. Even i doubt this will work becouse of the firmware of the digital one, or the married disc and motherboard, but it worth trying.

I bet it is just about connection and firmware. You will maybe have to switch the bios if you would try to add dvd drive. But who knows maybe the firmware is the same to make updates easier

Yes add the connectors please i did this to a 1050ti adding a 6 pin and it helped with overclocked and it just ran better so it could do something

i think before you try add a disc to the non disc version try swapping the ps5 disc drive with another one and see if it boots. if that works then we could be into something interesting. Especially for example someone figured out how to buy a cheap drive and it worked in a PS5 and you just add the headers to the digital version and add it in.

I wouldn't be surprised if you tried putting a disc drive on the digital one and it worked. Although you would probably need to change out the front panel button board as well otherwise you wouldn't be able to eject a disc lol

on left board I see some missing components in top-right part, between screwholes 1-2 of total 3 in vertical line... 6:07
