@@TuulaMaariaI guess I was asking because I didn't want to bother trying to learn if I couldn't use it but that was about the easiest switch in my mind thing I've ever done. When we were young, my Mom taught my brother and I how to crochet chains, to keep us busy so she could complete her project undisturbed. My brother figured out how to do it using a pencil instead of a hook! LOL! It is very similar to this technique! (this was almost 50 years ago)💖

This is cool but I want more control over the size chains I get even in the beginning chain. It’s neat tho learning a different way to do these things. If I had to chain 300 I might do it if I’m doing a border

Yes, this would be best for longer chains!

It looked like they were holding the hook in the crook of their leg. This might work for kids, I'm going to try this with the grandkids. They've tried to learn the "normal" way but can't seem to get a good rhythm going. This will at least get them started with a base chain. Thank you for sharing this, I've never seen it done this way.

Someone else was also saying that they had the hook under a bent knee, I didn't notice that but now looking at it again, that's what it must be. Worth trying with your grandkids! 😊

It's interesting, but I'll stick to using two hands instead of three.

Very interesting, but learning that method was as clumsy for me as learning to chain when I first started crocheting. If I practiced I'm sure I'd get faster, but for someone who has no coordination issues or the like, I can already chain pretty quickly the conventional way. Why learn a new method? Really fun to see, though. Thanks!

I can't imagine that your chains will be all the same tension. For me, it's faster to chain them normally.

It takes time to get it even I'm sure. I wouldn't use this for anything else than very long chains.

My left arm is currently in a cast, which inhibits the proper use of my fingers. So right now I can't crochet normally. Yes, I could do this; it might be very helpful if I were starting a Tunisian crochet blanket, for instance. But what happens when I finish the chain? How do I continue with the blanket? This is a technique that makes chains, nothing else. I'll bear it in mind for the next time I need a long chain, but it isn't a solution for things like coordination problems. It has limited utility.

Oh yes, it is just an interesting single technique! After you finish the chain you put the stitch on your hook and continue with whatever you are making.
