Needing to be famous is an over compensation for not being seen. With the scene watching his dad leaving him and the absolute terror he has about being a nobody: HEART BREAKING depth. Personally I think that’s why and not because of the monkey. Similarly why we feel more for dogs since dogs are powerless against humans, they are innocent like children, his needs to be famous can suddenly be understood as NOT so much narcissism but the longing and the simplest desire to be loved.
@BogoBob14 күн бұрын
Yep he's desperate for attention and love. "I just want to feel, real love" he signs as a bullied child who's dad abandoned him. And he chases that from screaming fans, thinking that's love but ignores the "real love" from Nicole, and mocks her for genuinely loving her family and friends. It's a flaw and his desire for fame and not being "a nobody" is one of those. He still says today that he struggles with that need for the ego hit, and is fears for the day he can no longer play stadiums with huge crowds as he needs it for his ego. It's a brave move to show all his flaws and mistakes often showing he is clearly the bad guy in many conflicts, but that is why the move works well. it's not sanitized like bohemian rhapsody and other biopics.
@721rena11 күн бұрын
That's honestly i think the biggest reason i want to be famous actress is to be seen to be loved to be important to be validated to be remembered to be mortalized cause nobody in my family ever made me feel that way and then i was bullied alot by the other kids as a child then i was completely forgotten about and ostracized which was almost worst. Cause atleast if you were bullied its cause you were remembered i was later treated as unimportant and invisible afterwards. Then abused at home. Would like to say adulthood it got better but no it got worse. My life has been horrible. And for that i had always dreamed of being a famous actress.

I loved it. It got me several times. I also think the monkey helped it be more raw and real by completely eliminating the expectation that it was going to be “accurate”. That’s what drags a lot of biopics down. Best they either try to get it close to reality as they can but since reality is impossible they get criticized and it can drag or they just make a “good” story and get criticized for whitewashing, etc it. This just removes that barrier.

I agree with so much of this. Didn’t think about comparing it to Bojack Horseman, but as a BJH fan… yeah, that sounds about right. Robbie as a personality really resembles Bojack, and Bojack’s journey resembles Robbie’s at some points. Except well, I absolutely hope Robbie is not responsible for someone dying from overdose under his watch. But that poem about the view from upside down… I wish there was a moment like that in this movie. And instead of the monkeys changing their attitude, I wish there were no monkeys at the Royal Albert Hall, because he already defeated them in that anime-like sequence. But anyway, I really enjoyed this. Went to see it with my sister, and we’ve both been fans of Robbie’s for pretty much most of our lives… and seeing it with her was great. She knows all the songs too. And she loved it as well. But I can absolutely see how it would be a fun movie for someone who doesn’t know him too. Like Rocketman, I mean… I knew nothing about the guy before watching that movie, only knew a couple of songs. But the story and plot made a hell of a lot of sense anyway. And my god, Bohemian Rhapsody. What a crock of shit indeed.
@rob_barriecharles204213 сағат бұрын
The comparison with bojack horseman is a crappy argument. You're saying Bojack Horseman is good because the guy has a horse for a head. Therefore, Robbie Williams with monkey is good. Bojack Horseman is good because the characters have emotions, real feeling, real situations, and all the characters flaws. The character flaws sometimes give the characters success but mpre often failure. Better Man is just about a singer who gets famous, and there is no attention to the other characters to form situations. Its just, here is the character, he got famous, the end.

to ur last point about how people reacted to the trailers - I think I saw a short version of the trailer and it made it seem like a movie made for kids where they do acknowledge he was a monkey and that's part of why his life is so hard etc. So idk if i saw some weird version of the trailer or maybe missed the opening few seconds where you see him as a human and he explains the premise, but i reacted EXACTLY as u described bc whatever I did see was p misleading. as per usual glad i watched ur take bc now it actually sounds good lol

When I first saw the trailer in theaters with my family I was a little interested because I wanted to see what the movie was going to be (I also think the CGI is pretty good). When I realized it was a biopic of Robbie Williams I was like "Oh, cool. A different bio-pic...but who's Robbie Williams?" I felt bad because I didn't know who Williams was and thought I needed to listen to more music, but whenever the film was getting big on TikTok I had realized that nobody in America knew who Robbie Williams was. The only song I've heard of him singing isn't even his but a cover of "Beyond the Sea". After seeing so much of clips and jokes online, I am interested in the film and I bet it's a really good film that does a good job at showing his life, but I think for us Americans it caught us off guard because we don't know who he is, the CGI monkey, and it made him seem like this big rock star but in reality he's a popstar who sings dance and pop music.
