PC specialist are actually a system builder that was all online with custom built PCs but then they started doing a few pre builts that are only sold in currys. So you managed to get probably one of the best systems you could from currys. Also if you don't want to try and squeeze the PC into you carry on luggage you can always send it to me I need an upgrade lol :)

For how much information they give you to setup and just how well they build these systems it is definitely worth having a look at these guys, I do admit it may be a little bit on the expensive end for getting yourself a completely custom built (which is what I got) vs the prebuilts they send off the shelf but I ultimately think it is well worth the money.

So... I actually worked at Curry's and was quite surprised when the start of the video had the PC that I used to recommend fairly often (the better air flow version of the one you bought), which I recommended almost always over other brands due to it's better upgrade paths. The problem with Currys isn't necessarily all of the systems that were sold, it's the fact that barely any of the store colleagues knew what they were talking about when recommending one, which is a massive problem when someone who's buying a prebuilt usually doesn't understand PCs. I was unfortunately the only sales person in the (fairly large) store who really knew anything in depth about computers, laptops, cameras and a few other things we sold, putting a lot of pressure on me to help my colleagues CONSTANTLY! It just goes to show they didn't really care about the service quality, only the fact that we sold extended warranty... It was terrible, against my conscience and a major reason as to why I left that job.
@Nodster
@Nodster 2 жыл бұрын
This has always been the case when it comes to PC's and computers in general with Curry's I worked for them late 90s, early 2000s and working in the warehouse of a store, They always dragged my backside out to talk over computers with customers as there was literally no one else in store that could put it in laymen's terms let alone actually know what they were selling. The amusing thing is though is that there was a PC World next door and customers would go there first and then come to us because they did not understand the technical speak that PC World were banging on with.
@5pr1nk57
@5pr1nk57 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly this, it was always the same with Maplins too, there'd be that one store colleague that actually knew what they were talking about and the rest were shelf stackers. I actually applied for a job in Maplins years ago as a teenager but didn't get an interview, probably as I didn't have/take my GCSE's. Yet I likely knew more about electronics and computers than the entire shops staff! Frustrating! 😅

Once went out to a customer who needed a GPU installed because the Tech team at Curry’s told them the integrated graphics on their Intel APU had died and didn’t want to pay the £90 they got quoted by them to do it. Got there and even before I installed what they purchased from store I thought I would just do some quick checks myself. Well in less than 5min I found out from the online manual that the post error beeps were memory related, took out the RAM, reseated it and all of a sudden no boot problems. Honestly how hard is it to do the basic checks or is it something they did know but upsold a GPU install along with them playing with the RAM? Who knows.

PCSpecialist are a well known system builder in the UK, I've had a few PCs off them in the past and they do offer options to select all your components. That price for that kit seems decent, but I wonder if you could just have specced out the same with a better case for similar...
@Ayasira
@Ayasira 2 жыл бұрын
That exact same hardware, but bought from PCS directly, comes out to £1150, so pretty much the same. The difference being, I cannot find that case on PCS's website. Even the worst case they have, which costs an absolutely tiny £27, has the same airflow except it has a solid plastic side panel with an air vent (with mounting holes for a Fan) instead of plastiglass(?). You could also save £100~ by not buying a copy of Windows when buying straight from PCS, which also means no Bulldog bloatware crap. But the pay off is that it's a 3-5 day build time + 2-3 day delivery instead of next day.

Likewise. Bought a system from PC Specialist in early 2017, good system and well packed and accessories box came with it which I still have. Last year I bought a similar price gaming system (around 2,500 GBP) from CyberPower UK, both of them are good but I'd say PC Specialist edges it in terms of overall service. The cyber power website allowed me to edit the configuration of a stock build that was ready to go for next day delivery, it also let me ordered a keyboard and mouse combo that wasn't even in stock. Next day when the PC arrived, without the upgraded CPU cooler, or the keyboard and mouse, when I queried it they told me keyboard and mouse were out of stock so refunded me for that, and when I told them it was shipped with a lesser CPU cooler (AIO) than I had paid the extra £40 to upgrade to they refunded me for that also stating that "as it was a stock system the website should not have allowed me to make changes to it", as they just sit in a box sealed ready for dispatch rather than actually being built to a specific order by their fulfilment team. Nothing major, but had I not been tech savvy as such and realised they hadn't upgraded the AIO despite having paid the extra £40 I'd never had queried it, and would have "lost out". Days later they changed their site to prevent people from changing the spec of next day delivery systems (ready to go).

Loved the video David, and hoped you enjoyed it here in the UK. Speaking from my own experience Currys/PC world is absolute garbage BUT PC specialist is my go to system builder if I want/need a prebuild. I however always order from their website directly (take a look at it). You can specify no bloatware (the Bulldog AV is probably a condition of Currys), you always got the all the manuals and free game codes if they came with your GPU. You could even send in your old case and have that used by PC specialist if you wanted. Your eperience can only be likened to going to Walmart to pick up a Rolex.

All thermometers in the UK max out at 26C... this is because the temperature never used to exceed that temperature (and of course as it is the limit of our temperature sensing capabilities never does.) as a result of temperatures not being able to be recorded above this temperature we do not bother having air conditioning as 26C is still reasonably comfortable.

I got a pre built from them at the start of the lockdown before the 30 series cards released. Think I paid about £1300. Wasn't bad, it had an i7-9700 with an rtx 2070 super and 16gb of dual channel corsair vengeance. The motherboard was okay but not great, it was an Asus prime h310-plus. Had a 2gb hdd and a 256gb adata m.2. It had an equivalent corsair psu to the one you got there. Main complaint was the case, such little airflow so it used to get very warm but still ran everything decently. Since then I've learned how to build everything myself. Went to customer service, waited for ten minutes to speak to someone. He told me to go stand by the ink and a member of staff would come to me. Waited another twenty minutes and went to the cash desk and asked for what I wanted. Strange thing, or maybe not, no queue at the cash desk. Lady told me to either go to customer service, or stand by the ink and a member of staff would come to me. 'Borrowed' a pair of scissors from a random desk, cut the ink and the barcode out of the packaging and went back to the cash desk. Lady said she would have to call security. “It’s like Best Buy” is the best way to describe it to someone from North America. Have experienced both I’d say that Best Buy has more for the fans of tech gadgets and Currys has more for for kitchen. The common complaints about CPCW is that if you go in not knowing what you want, you will get poor advice and will most likely be upsold. Then they are very pushy when it comes to selling you extended warranties (think this is because staff have imposed targets). Then finally, if something should go wrong the customer service can be pretty poor.

Working Service Desk In Currys the main issues with Customer Service is people want a replacement product even if its 8 months later theirs has broken, well HP wont pay for the replacement and we cant afford to give people replacements so we need to send it for repair at either our repair center or the manufacturers, depending on what hp wants us to do. If its our repair centre then its like 7-14 days for a full repair. Idk whats unreasonable about that but who the hell am i to tell people we wont give you free stuff constantly White goods manufacturers are assholes tho. They need to send an engineer out and get a special RMA Number, otherwise they wont cover the repair costs. Oh and we NEED the serial number so customers often make 2 trips just to start the process, because they thought the store is just supposed to "handle it" If the manufacturer declines to repair it theres not a lot we can do instore, whether its accidental damage or the product died outside of warranty, or the customer claims it died in warranty and then comes in after, like wtf are we supposed to do?

the intake fan is installed in a way that allows it to create a vortex, because the blowing side is not insulated from the sucking side, with the restrictive air intake it might just rotate the same air again and again.

that's my pc!!!!!! and the only reason i got it was the overwhelmingly POSITIVE feedback it had. 😉 not sure where you're getting all the bad vibes from to make you fly all the way to london to buy one

If Curry's are reselling PC Specialist stuff they're doing it right. My current PC was from PC Specialist (5950X, 3080) and is a total quality machine, absolutely beautiful and never stuttered in the 8 months I've had it.

I’ve used PC Specialist directly and when it’s time to upgrade my current rig I will be going back. The pricing was great, the build quality was excellent and the whole process was great. I’d really recommend looking into them if you are uk based. The pc is still going strong and works well. The only gripe I had, was with the courier who delivered the system. Dpd. It arrived at my local courier warehouse on the Friday. I asked to come down and fetch it as I dealt with the warehouse regularly… to be told nope, it’s staying on the back of the wagon for the entire weekend. Lazy gits couldn’t be arse to unload anything that afternoon.

I spent a fortune 3 years ago on my pc from PC Specialist and have never looked back. Great service too. Only down side is its not the easiest website to order components from.

PC specialist are good! I had one of their desktop CPU powered laptops with a RTX2080 in it and it was a solid system. Had a small fault with wifi aerial and they shipped a replacement wifi card no questions asked next day. Top quality systems, excellent customer service. Properly configured. Plus they know what they're talking about. Curry's, on the other hand, is a sh**house corporation, you got lucky with this system, if it was Curry's branded it would be single channel green PCB ram, stock coolers, Super-happy-fun-time power supplies and "golden dragon" e-waste peripherals galore.

I brought a PC direct from PC Specialist a few years ago. It was the equivalent of your PC at the time more or less - GTX 1060 6gb and I5. After hundreds of hours use has performed perfectly and will still play current titles at lower settings. I think PC specialist stuff is pretty decent.

Pc specialist are a specialist PC business that sell pre built systems or partially built systems with and without An operating system. I purchased a Clevo 15" gaming laptop directly from them a few years ago and chose the specific parts. Clevo custom laptops can be very expensive but I found pc specialist to be cheaper than XMG Apex 15 which uses the same Clevo Chassis, the Clevo pc specialist laptop I purchased was the Nova 15" Ryzen 9 3900x (I could have had the Ryzen 9 3950x) and can upgrade still if I wanted , 32gb Ram, 2x M.2 500gb, Rtx 2070 Gpu. I actually worked out that I couldn't build a desk top similar spec for the price I paid.

As a rule of thumb for people in the UK, you really want to get a pc/components from scan or Cex if you want a reliable (pretty much non-ebay) way of knowing that your pc has been built well or your components are actually working and have a waranty

I bought a PC Specialist Tornado (Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB RAM, XFX Radeon 6700XT 12GB) through Currys last year which was good, but the graphics card failed in the first month due to some over-zealous cable management which pulled on the power pins on the card and caused it to fail (not even fan spin). Hats off to Currys who replaced the whole PC and fortunately I had everything backed up on the cloud. The replacement unit had a nicer bit of slack on the 8pin power cable. One year on and it's still running great. I suspect I would've been screwed if it was past the 30 day guarantee however.

I bought my high spec PC workstation directly from PC Specialist. Configured the machine via their website - all very easy to do. Fantastic PC, been working it hard with no complaints. No Currys involved. I think Currys are happy to sell PC Specialist machines as they are so well put together!

I ordered my PC built at PC Specialist. Select components you want to include in your build, from case, cpu GPU, memory etc. and will post to you completely built. I checked their prices from other sellers and I can say theirs are quite reasonbly priced. The specs I have might be another £1000 higher from other known brands.

You were pretty lucky, PC Specialist is a respected prebuilt company here in the UK, I've used them a bit over the years for myself and some friends / family and I've never had a complaint

got me a pc Specialist pc to upgrade my old 4tg gen and gtx 970, took a few months as the 30's were out of stock everywhere, ended up downgrading from a 3080 to a 3070 which they had a delivery of, it was shipped a couple of days later. amazing build, the watercooler fell over after a couple of months though, (horrible grating noise on the fan) and they upgraded me to the next one up for free no quibbles. really good experience.

Fun fact- Kingston and New Malden are greater/outer London. Kingston used to be part of the county of Surrey where I live. Both are about 20 mins drive from where I live in Epsom! 😁 Curry's isn't all that bad, they just a reputation of selling low end tech at over inflated prices and many of the staff don't have a clue but if you know your stuff, neither are an issue as you can find a deal. It's the sort of place your grandparents go to buy their tech! Curry's and PC World used to be two separate chains and we also had an electronics retailer called Dixons that went bust an age ago. PC Specialist however are a reputable system builder and I would have no issue recommending them. As you found out, they do a good job! I was unaware they now sold through Curry's so there may be some price inflation but still not a bad deal, considering how volatile part prices have been. That said, I do all my own builds anyway :)

Sorry Dawid I live in the UK and I would never buy a PC from Currys. I did buy a gas hob from them last year and which they misinstalled resulting in a gas leak that only didn’t blow up my house because we called the emergency Gas Board to turn off the gas and sort me out. Buy from Currys and potentially blow up your house !
