I should have mentioned that if eating carbs by themselves it can spike blood sugars higher than if you do combine them with fat. Add fats to carbs to should blunt the blood sugar response 😄

Are you saying that it’s good to combine fats with carbs to help lower the blood sugar response (vs carbs alone)? Because that’s what I always thought and did lol

@@AmenaandElias the height and duration of the glucose spike is very individual. For most people, then get a glucose spike during exercise, weight lifting and even sexual relations. Some people get a glucose spike with too much beef protein at one time. All very individualized. Plus, some do great with fiber and others don't. Depends on your health and medical conditions. No one answer for everyone.

what i have found out is , it is not the sugar it self but the sugar and carbs mixed with proteins and fats.. i had same issue years back and i went all fruit and carbs and i cut out the fats and proteins . great results . a few years later i was eating normal again and flare ups returned so it was winter time and i didn't have access to good fruits so i went carnivore. or keto. low carb veggies like broccoli and others all the fat and butter i wanted but didn't eat breads pasta potatoes . or carbs or sugar. gone , even in coffee i used stevia. i later found out that my body couldnt handle all the fats and sugar in the blood stream. this is also why diabetics can go off meds when eating a stricked fruit and carb lifestyle. they also can do the same if they give up carbs and fruits and go all fats and proteins life style. like steak seafood all the fat that comes on the steak . eat it too. ,, if you ever wanna try either diets out just try it. i do both. summer time when fruit is good i go high carb vegan. winter i go carnivore .. cheers! ps when switching over you have to give it time to work. let me know how it goes for you. oh and yes if i get in the sun that works also. cheers again :D so it kinda all goes back to eat what is in season. then you get all the nutrients you need , i think carnivore is great for healing but to do it only forever you would miss out on other nutrients in ripe fruits and veggies. cheers!

Lillie, you should know better! While mixing these does reduce the spike of glucose, it extends the time that insulin is elevated. Which is the cause of most issues, NOT the glucose.

In my opinion, Charles Poloquin was right, when he said, winning the war against fat is winning the war against insulin. Vince Gironda said, the human body will only use fat as fuel in the absence of carbohydrates, which is why his steak and eggs diet was discovered and used since the 60's (in bodybuilding). And if I may add, when eating fat and carbohydrates, science has proved that it will spike blood sugar, and insulin, and will put the human body into fat storage mode. As the insulin works to lower the blood glucose/sugar. If this continues, (sometimes over years) this could trigger the Randel cycle! I look at it this way, eating plants is non-essential. Also, science has proven that all plants contain toxic chemicals that plants use to defend themselves. 🥩🥚🥓🍗🍖🧀🍶

I'm not familiar with Charles Poloquin, so I can't comment on that statement. However, I agree completely with everything else you mentioned. I'm a huge Vince Gironda fan, BTW. I also commented, with my point squarely directed at the Randle Cycle. I'll have to look up Charles P., to do some HW. Thanks for sharing.

My son joined me on a carnivore diet. He had never calorie-restricted in his life and lost 30 lbs in a month. Now he's a stick and struggles to eat enough.... he's not completely unhappy with this since he was a chunk for 15 years of his childhood. Hey, I get it, if I'd been in the same boat... Anyway, I'm the opposite of him in that I am in my 50s and dieted my whole life, my metabolism is bad, and I have low muscle mass. I was trying to eat high-fat carnivore and my weight loss was really slow (and I probably put on some muscle bc I lost inches more than lbs.) BUT now I've switched to a lower fat (not LOW fat) carnivore diet relying more on chicken and not so much on steak+butter, and my weight is finally moving in the right direction. If anyone is reading this in the same boat, look at Maria Emmerich's site or anyone on PSMF "protein sparing modified fasting" which is switching up your calorie intake a few days a week, and not reducing your protein while you play around with the fat macro (some days eating a bunch and some days cutting back) I still have about 40 lbs to lose (it may not seem like a lot but my proper weight is about 100, so being this much overweight, I look like an oopma-loompa)

Thank you so much Lillie - finally some answers in this topic! One big question that I cannot find answered anywhere: Our liver is metabolizing both the fat and sugar we eat to provide energy to our cells. There are ZERO CARB diets, improving general (liver) health and there are ZERO FAT diets, improving (liver) health as well (e.g., Anthony Williams). In several books I have now read, that the combination of FAT and CARB in one meal is taking a great toll on our liver, because now our blood is full of glucose AND fat and our liver always tries to get rid of glucose in our blood stream ASAP, but if there is fat blocking this process, more insulin is released because the body thinks, this will solve the issue.. I would love to get some insight on how this actually works in real life and if then combining those two is any good, independently of someone trying to gain, lose or heal. Thank you very much ♥

Your body is still wanting nutrients... Gotta feed it and over feed it until it wants/desires less... Which in the mean time can lead to weight gain... Then, you'll become less hungry and more in tune to body's needs... I have not taken this step yet fully... I don't get hungry until I start eating... Then I'm like a bottomless pit... Bella the steak and butter gal said her initial priming because of nutrient difficiency and the amount of healing took 6 months in this stage and she gained like 25 pounds at first until her body healed and then corrected itself

That's why I'm thinking of having cheat days when I will eat the carbs that I happen to crave for. I'm 95% carnivore. Dancing was my exercise and I find that I no longer have the strength to do 30 minutes of sustained movement. If I push for 30 minutes, I feel tired and worn out after instead of feeling energized. For the carnivore diet, weight training is recommended. That's why we see people on carnivore who have such great physiques. But the diet seems to fall short when it comes to prolonged sustained movement. I'm thinking of having cheat days maybe once a month, twice a month, or maybe once a week. I'm still navigating my way through.

Right, all the natural drug tested bodybuilders and fitness models that i know personally, all eat close to a 30P / 20 to 25F/ 45 to 50C. During a cut, the fat drops to 15% so a 30P/15F/ 55C and total volume reduced. The really serious guys will even up the protein to 45%. True, no one size fits all. Depends on many factors. We are all very similar but broken in different ways. Not everyone has two kidneys, not everyone has a fully functioning liver or pancreas, millions with type 1 diabetes, millions on dialysis, others with cancer and autoimmune issues. Many factors involved. Billions of people living in locations were it is extremely difficult or expensive to obtain meat. Goal must be to help everyone on a global scale as well as individualize diets for the middle class and rich who are overindulging.

One Food: Milk. The greatest of all foods. The problem with the "Carbs aren't essential" argument is that the body will break protein down into sugars, thus THERE IS A NEED for Sugar. Instead of getting `sugar externally, the body has to WASTE ENERGY to produce it internally. Also, people don't realize it, but SEARING YOUR MEAT produces Sugars. "Caramelization" and the Mallard Reaction. I read an article on "AmazingRibs" a` long time ago, but couldn't find the article again, that after `these reactions occur, sugar content increases up to 8x. What do you think the sear on the meat is? Why do you think it tastes so good?` We are degrading proteins and creating sugar. It's the same as our body doing it internally, but different.
@MOAB-UT
@MOAB-UT 2 ай бұрын
Interesting. I was aware of the Mallard Reaction. I read Metabolical- Lustig. He also talks about burned meat as full of AGE's. Glycation is bad- cancer causing. Gluconeogenesis is not a problem. For centuries, animals did not eat exogenous carbs. Carbs cause many, by far more health issues. Milk is for baby cows- not humans. Inflammatory Lectin proteins for one.

Thank you for saying this because I’ve always wondered why people worship the sear on a steak or their sweet bacon while bad-mouthing carbs. Not to mention that if they were eating a fresh kill (because carnivores love to imagine our ancestors were constantly hunting ate nothing but meat), it would tend to sugars from muscle glycogen, which isn’t the case for meat that sits out.

“The problem with the ‘Carbs aren’t essential’ argument is that the body will break protein down into sugars….you explained precisely why carbs are not essential because the body can manufacture it if it needs it. “Waste energy”? what an odd way to phrase a normal body function like breathing or something as wasting energy. The definition of essential nutrient involves a substance our body cannot live without and cannot make. carbs fails both criteria.

@@eyes4seeingu You are right. I do KETO so some carbs, but low starch veg and in the form of quality, nutrient dense whole foods like avocado, garlic, etc. Gorillas are mono-eaters. They eat Bananas. We are marketed to believe we need 100 plants, herbs, meats, organs, eggs. In reality, we are evolved to survive on small amounts of quality foods- mostly meats IMO. Carbs contributes to Diabetes and metabolic dysfunction. That should tell educated people all they need to know. Are you full Carnivore? I’ve been eating more like low carb instead of keto. Occasionally I have potatoes and a cheat day. I had a cancerous polyp at beginning of this year and had to have complete hysterectomy after 20+ years post menopause. I needed to eat before surgery cause I wasn’t eating enough on keto. I tried carnivore for 9 days once and I got to complete loss of appetite. My husband lost 70 lbs and I lost 30 on keto in 2023. We are still maintaining our weight. I have gained a little but I had the surgery. Just now getting out to walk.

There is a problem with plant sources of nutrients. While they may contain good amounts of certain nutrients, they also contain things such as oxalates, lectins, and protease inhibitors which block the absorption of those nutrients, as well as nutrients from your other foods such as the protein from animals sources.

Unfortunately, there is no diet-rulebook for all humans to follow. It all comes down to what you believe, what your goals are, and what works for you and your body. As with other animals, we will evolve with our diets. Just because our ancestors ate one way, doesn't mean we have to. It may be optimal to follow in their footsteps, but ultimately what we eat is our own choice. In the far future, there may be branches of humanity with separate herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores carving their own niches on the planet.

I have Pre-Diabetes and am currently working on trying to eat an 80% general whole food (meaning minimal ultra-processed/junk food and added sugars) most days. It’s still very much a work in progress. I think both plant and animal foods have pros and cons. They both can be dangerous in excess or pose risks (both can become contaminated for example) and they both have nutritional benefits. I think a balance is needed. And likewise, I don’t want to give up all my favorite unhealthy foods completely so still want to be able to indulge here and there. My HA1C sometimes goes into the upper normal and then other times crosses into Pre-Diabetes. I’m also trying to lose weight again and need to try to be able to keep it off this time. I’m also working on trying to exercise more consistently again. I do need to work on having more self compassion and not beating myself up so much on days or even weeks when I get too far off-track. I have to remember that progress isn’t linear and steps backward isn’t the end of the world. Also, I’m learning that even if I get off-track more than I’d like, I might not be starting back from square one. Such as with jogging. Last summer I did a couch to 5K program with a goal of running a race (I ran a 4 mile race on Thanksgiving). I took some months off during winter and just starter back up a few weeks ago. Luckily I’m not back at the very beginning as I was able to jog for sets of five minutes, totaling twenty minutes of jogging. Last week I was able to do sets of 8-10 minutes. When I started last summer, I could barely jog for a minute at a time (outside/going forward…I could jog in place for 20-30 minutes okay, to the Wii Fit game).

Good info. A few things I would like to point out- A. No Potatoes. Too many Oxalates. B. The real reason why you NEVER want to mix too many Carbs when you eat higher Fat (like KETO), is *The Randle Cycle* and it is dangerous. When the cell is full e.g., FAT, then you eat carbs (sugar), that sugar will be locked out and do bad things in the blood vessel. Or if you eat Sugar and the cell if full, again, the door locks, then the FATS are now locked out and can clog arteries. I eat KETO with some, but low carbs. BART KAY insists that humans need ZERO Exogenous Carbs. It is a really important video about The Randle Cycle, here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5K6YqFmfaacaNksi=V28n0eadBzScT3dO&t=1 Also, a great book everyone should read is TOXIC SUPERFOODS- Sally Norton. She is an expert on the topic of harmful OXALATES. I don't eat Almonds, Soy, Rhubarb, Potatoes, Spinach, etc. They contain compounds that bind to calcium and harm health. One issue is they make Kidney Stones.

Starchivore - carnivore. Believe it or not I prefer adding whole wheat cereal such as Weet Bix (I live in Melbourne Southeast in Australia) together with fried mince beef and cow butter and cow cheddar cheese besides pork luncheon because the body does not need to convert fat and animal protein into energy because of wheat, plus the body gets as much protein it needs for growth and repair. At age 60, I am recovering from heart failure I suffered 4 months ago and see fast healing results and because wheat contains fibre I do not get constipation or strain on bowel movement

I discovered the carnivore/animal-based diet last year. I didn’t come to it to lose weight, but I have lost more than 35 pounds, so far. I came to this diet for energy because I’ve always had problems with fatigue and brain fog. While this diet did deliver on the energy, my problem is under eating, and that can cause problems with energy. I cannot eat to society, as is suggested, because I have a hiatal hernia, so I try to keep a plate of meat in the refrigerator at all times and I grab it when I’m hungry, but, as I said, I under eat, and I will only eat to satisfaction. This has been quite the quandary for me.

Some carbs are beneficial for you.! Not all carbs are the same . Its best when you eat COMPLEX carb. These carbs digest slower and is excellent for gut health. Its the SIMPLE carbs that will be the problem cause those will raise the insulin level having higher spikes. Its best to eat protein before eating simply carb cause the protein will slow down the simple carb preventing it to spike up. Slso if you chill the carbs ( mostly simple) , it will change to resistant starch in which is beneficial for gut health and what your gut needs like probotics. Eat COMPLEX carbs and chill SIMPLE carbs and / or eat after proteins. It helps me a lot when I do this. I have been loosing weight.😊

Although there is truth here, it depends on your personal application. I would say this advice is good for those who are trying to lose weight and not active. However if you are someone like me who is 53, exercises 3-4 days every week and trying to put on muscle while keeping your body fat composition down, as long as you are burning serious calories daily, you can incorporate come carbs like rice or potato with your protein and fat to help with filling that caloric surplus to help with muscle gain, being 53 it has been a struggle, carnivore helped over keto but still need some help with my older body so I do incorporate rice and potatoes on my post workout meal.

My energy levels during workouts have been difficult to figure out. I have found I actually do the best and have the least amount of fatigue and sweat when I go 0 carb or at least close to 0 and 0 for that day. I think I have to change my diet around to have tons of carbs or something because little carbs TANK my energy! An apple, pear, or sweats even a few hours before working out causing me to sweat quickly and tire easily. Even if I down a pasta or a potato-based dish, I find I have much less energy. It's as if my body is fairly settled in ketosis energy and when I supply carbs, my body switches to quickly burn that off, then it leaves me depleted and no longer working off ketones. Or something. If I have a cheese and pork rind sort of day prior to lifting, I'll do bench and squat or deadlift in the same day, lifting 8 to 10 sets in each lift, plus exercises after - I come home and my kids jump on me and I spin around and have fun. If I cheat or think some carbs will be good for me, or even if I eat a high-quality multi-vitamin (those tank me also), I'm sweating profusely and wanting to quit around 5 sets, can't lift as much, and feel like passing out during and after my drive home - my children annoy me when I feel like this.

What do you think all junk foods are? Chips fries cakes biscuits cookies slices burgers pizza donuts etc etc. All have around a 50:50 ratio of fat to carb calories ratio(1g of fat has 9cals 1g carbs has 4cals)!!! Also in this combination they're much less satiating and actually stimulate appetite so one accidentally overeats calories and over time becomes overweight. Hence the obesity crisis. If you just eat fat it gets hard to eat and too rich after a certain amount so you stop. Same with sugar by itself. It gets sickly so one stops. But add them together and we just keep on eating!

@gribbler1695
@gribbler1695 2 ай бұрын
The glycogen stores in the meat are the carbs. Much of the glycogen stores will be converted to lactic acid due to stress in the animal at the point of slaughter. High glycogen stores are required in the animal since the lactic acid reduces the ultimate pH of the meat, which must be below a certain level.
