Most likely, they died, probably by the silent nurse. It's possible they actually stayed to continue helping patients as well as to protect them from the nurse. It's possible that the doctor that "retired" was her actual choice. Choosing the afterlife after 50 years of service. The one nurse seemed happy about it. There might be a an agreement that after so long, they can choose to move on or choose to stay. But if they stay they say....have to serve another 50 years. Considering it's aligned with "good," it's possible. Or the choice is made for them initially but after 50 years they can choose to stay and continue or move on. I think if they died in the hospital the choice is made for them initially but many of them saw the value of helping the patients and protecting them from the nurse. But the choice to move on is still an option after say 50 years.

The thumbnail reminded me of this mildly scary experience my stbx had and decided to traumatize me with. They were closing down his office during the lockdown so his whole floor was empty. He kept hearing loud buzzing behind this one door. He opened the door to find a small room with an abandoned old army green wheelchair and a faded red rubber ball, nothing look touched but also, no dust. There was no other door to the room, and there was no other doorknob on the other side of the door. He looked at the room for a while, took a pic, because hey weird and creepy, but also never did see where the buzzing was coming from. Security came by. He joked with the guard about the "vampire murder room" and with everyone going home how the vampires were going to starve. The guard laughed and said, "Nah, they'll be fine. All these old buildings are connected by the underground tunnels, remember?" Anyways I have since never gone to downtown Tulsa after dark unless I'm with a large group of people and at least one of them is slower than me.

So creepy! I’m an RN, and spent the majority of my working years on the night shift. We don’t turn off the lights, but it can get weird. My hospital was in the middle of corn fields. Not much around, but the fog and mist that used to roll in was…atmospheric. I did notice one very busy night in the ER that the Grim Reaper was scrubbing at one of our sinks. I blinked and he was gone.
@randallbesch24245 ай бұрын
Grim reaper is an icon and a psychopomp. Not really a person.
@DameNickum5 ай бұрын
@@randallbesch2424 That’s true. Seeing a dark, indistinct cowled and hooded figure bending to wash at a scrub sink, in the middle of a crisis filled ER left me with the impression of the mythic personification of death. Death was always present in the ER, sometimes having coffee in the break-room, sometimes actively escorting someone away from the pain and suffering of a catastrophic injury. But I had never seen anything like that before or since. That feeling of being on borrowed time was a familiar one, hearing a siren and the radio calling for the ERN was often only the start. It’s an image that most can imagine, no shining scythe, no skeletal hands, just a dark figure that was only visible for a few seconds.
@DameNickum5 ай бұрын
@@randallbesch2424 Psychopomps (from the Greek word ψυχοπομπός, psychopompós, literally meaning the 'guide of souls') are creatures, spirits, angels, demons, or deities in many religions whose responsibility is to escort newly deceased souls from Earth to the afterlife. Would that not make it real? At least to the dead and dying? A guiding hand to hold when leaving a traumatic and catastrophically injured physical form? Yes, an Icon, but I disagree with it not being real. It’s real to those who experience it, and until you have, suspend your judgement.

Very well written and delivered. If there was one little detail I'd change or expand on, it's the age gap going all the way back to 1800s, simply because I feel like those people might've spoken differently enough from modern people to be noticed. But that's just a little thing and didn't ruin it or anything. I do wish there was an explanation for the woman though, like who she was- was she fired, or an angry former patient, or something more dark than that? Maybe they'll write a part 2 to answer!
@kazuma_matata17075 ай бұрын
judging by how the other staff told the protagonist that the woman was already around since the hospital was build, perhaps she might be one of the first staff who worked there. but we never know about what happened to her. whether she was fired or smt worse, i hope we'll get an explanation later on.

This is ghost hospital where the night shift is all ghosts, but they care for live patients? Or is it that they care for the souls of people? That might explain how the Pennsylvania high school kids got there, it was their ghostly souls, which the staff cared for and saved from death? I WILL fund this becoming a series.
