IF you are on a AM4 board with a Ryzen 5 3600 upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800x3d is a big upgrade.
@geronimo55375 ай бұрын
I'll just save you the headache. dont bother upgrading until you can buy something released in the last couple years. as only recently has the top spec been able to run SC "most of the time" over 60 fps.

The i9 10850k and 10900k has more cache than the i7/i9 of 11th series. If you heavily overclock the 11th series, you can overcome this, but Star Citizen seems to enjoy more cache and cores. I have the 11700k with 64Gb of 3600 speed and a 10850k with 64Gb of 4000 speed. Did you play around with any of the Gear settings when using the intel chips? This can provide different results for the 11th series.

Good info thanks! I'd love to properly look at cache at some point! I left all the gear stuff- figured it's probably beyond what most people looking at min spec CPU's are interested in. But, would be interesting to test at some point!

What do you recommend for a mid range system, not minimum specs. I'm not tech-savvy.
@tenpoundfortytwo5 ай бұрын
Mid range is probably 5800x3d or maybe 12th gen intel i5 at this stage! It really depends on how low a framerate you can take!
@Kitr45 ай бұрын
5800x3d is already midrange? How time flies/technology overtakes itself...
@besiege82465 ай бұрын
I strongly suggest getting a very good motherboard with the newest socket. If it is AMD, then you can upgrade later on. If you go intel, then it is a crap shoot as to whether you can upgrade later on. Just look at an R5 or i5 or is it core 5.
@TheeKevlarDucky5 ай бұрын
Maybe meant 5700x3d? That is substantially cheaper where I’m at. On par with the i5 in terms of price.

Are you asking for a mid range new build?

One day when CIG get all the graphics Vulkan in and fully optimised you will be able to see the true min and recommended Spec's are until then we are fighting against the storm
@teddypicker87995 ай бұрын
Vulkan will stop the game being so cpu heavy right? Make the game play better on intel cpus hopefully because they don't have as much cache
@Tainted-Soul5 ай бұрын
@teddypicker8799 thats the thought behind it also if they turned multi core and multi thread back on may help most of the time I play it only uses 1 thread
@horsthorstensen12775 ай бұрын
I know its a bit more expensive but having a 5700x3D in there would have been interesting.
@tenpoundfortytwo5 ай бұрын
I did actually test the 5800X3D at the same time (but didn't want to put too much on the graphs)- that averages 47.1 in Lorville with the RAM at 3600 MT/s. So the 5700X3D (which would be a tad slower) would be a big upgrade on any of the options in this video!

Got a pretty specific question for you, I. I built a mid-range gaming pc last year not realizing SC needs more CPU. I have the 13th gen i5 paired with a 4070. Game runs well at 2k but I am interested is upgrading the CPU to really maximize the experience. How much do you think is gained from the 14th gen i9 vs the 13th gen i9. Or does staying with the 13th gen i9 make a big enough improvement to justify upgrading from the i5 and saving a few buck
@tenpoundfortytwo5 ай бұрын
That's a tricky one! Those i9s are pretty expensive, and although the clocks speeds are higher and they have more cache, I'm not sure they would be worth the upgrade from the i5 (unless you are prepared to spend some time tuning it). I'd first make sure you've maxed out your ram speeds, and then I guess we are hoping that multithreaded vulkan brings a bit more performance. I think I would wait for that before making a decision (might come with 3.24 but more likely 4.0). I've been testing a 13700kf tonight (probably only a little quicker than your i5) and it performs pretty well! If you've got the money then getting one of the i9s is your only real upgrade path- but if it was me, I'd probably stick with the i5 for a couple of years and then build a new system. Also there has been quite a bit of news about the top end 13th and 14th gen having a high failure rate, so i'd look into that. Sorry to not have a better answer!

Isn't there a guy on our Discord that has a couple i9s?

@@tenpoundfortytwo thanks for great feedback. I think I was getting a little prime day crazy as there was 13900 for $400. But I think you are right and I would be better served waiting. I guess I’ll just spend the money on an Omni joystick to replace the old t16000

@@Dano_TSN There is a lot of talk right now about 13gen and 14gen Intel CPUs frying themselves within months. The exact cause of this issue has not been determined yet. You'll likely want to catch up on that discussion in your tech channel of choice to avoid buyers remorse later.

both the 10300 and 11400 look to be 100 layer chips. start out as 50 layers and then midway thru the run dovetail and ramp up to 100 layers. what do you think?
@chaoscorgi93485 ай бұрын
The best decision I made for CPU was building my system with a Ryzen 5 5600, as the 3600 just wasn't worth it then and it isn't as much now. Even with how much more demanding 3.23 is (entity counts, adding assets, code, optimisations but also more effects) on both CPU and GPU, the 5600 has kept up, albeit at almost 10 degrees higher on my air cooler. The price has stayed around $130, it has PCIE 4 compatibility which is all most people will need for years, and my GTX 1070 is a perfect match for it till I can upgrade to a 3060 or 4060 series. The 5600 is sort of the AMD sleeper CPU, it would be awesome if you could do either a review or evaluation to save time about what the *real* minimum spec CPU would be vs these, as struggling for 30 fps rather than 35-45 doesn't really cut it & won't with 3.24 - 4.0 Love your methodical and scientific videos always, thank you!

lil random thing btw, you can load SC on a 4700k with 16 gig memory with a 4 gig graphics card and yes it does take a long ass time and you get about 5 fps but it does work! lol amazing heh! ;)

10th it`s more good bc you can buy after 10600k-10700k - 8 big cores or 10850k-10900k with 10 big cores. I have 10850k and it`s just perfect 80% max usage for game all cores and 10-15fps lower than 13900k+ or high

cpu wont matter if you dont have a SSD or a good amount of memory to go with it.. am4 go with the 5800X3D as noted down below. building a new pc? 12th gen Intel ( see gamers nexus ) or amd 7800x3d ( 5800s big bro ) 32 gig system memory and get a 16 gig graphics card.. dont waste ya money with 8 .. just dont. good SSD * Does not need to be m.2 / 3 tbh oh and dont bother with upscaling if you play on 1080p it wont even bother .. coz well its so small you wont notice. and make sure you have good space on the drive as the page file is a joke :) o7
