I really, really like your reviews. Most other reviews are clearly not focused towards actual daily use. The annoying things usually take time to notice or are not annoying until they happen a lot of times. In the end, modern tech is so good that is easier to measure by "less little annoying" things that actual features. Thanks for doing this.
@SJokes

Yeah and a lot of other reviews is just them going through the specs and features of the device without giving their actual experiences.
@alus992
@alus992 4 жыл бұрын
@@SJokes The most annoying thing about laptop and tablet reviews these days is that 99% of reviewers define "daily productivity use" as: rendering, drawing, programming, exporting videos. No it's not productivity, its a pro level of work in your home as you are a freelancer and a "creativity" person. Most of us mortals need processing power to: open big Excel sheets and Word docs, big PDF, working with many tabs and many extensions working within the browser, working with Google suite that is a huge memory and processor hog for many PCs etc. These "reviewer's" benchmarks and their render time tests are not a good way to tell people which computer is better for their "productivity" work.

Piotr Marciniak thank you so much for saying this. the reviews make it seem that you cannot make your living using a powerful machine on other things but a very specific branch of all pro uses. Practical speed, swiftness and efficiency is what makes a lot of difference for most of professionals, not exporting 4K movies day and night... that’s just a subset

Nice comparison! I'm working on an i5 vs i7 comparison at the moment, except with the higher wattage 45W parts (9300H/9750H), so far the results are interesting, in games they're basically the same 🤔 of course differences in multicore workloads though. I like that you pronounce cache the Australian way!

Thanks for the advice. I'm glad that back in 2012 I bought a high-end i7 Mac mini. Since then Apple hasn't created a desktop worth buying. All are either too hard or impossible to upgrade or repair. Going with the i7, my now eight-year-old computer still has the speed I need. I've added 16 GB of RAM and a 1GB SSD to keep it current.

A very good review. Written the following in your other video too. So i7 are a better option. Suggestions to get more viewers:- 1. Keep it simple the way it is. No ads, no stickers/suggestions on top right. 2. Don't put any music or animation in the beginning. 3. Straight to the point. Don't start showing your place or your pet or your furniture or your colleagues. 4. Show a final summary on the screen of what you have spoken. Keep your script so that videos are not very lengthy. 5. Google will lure you with money spoil content by adding more ads/suggestions etc. If you can, then avoid it. It's understandable that you need money but just listen to the audience too. Thanks

Great video! I think a lot of what you're seeing is down to binning just as others have said and the rest is power targets. One thing that you didn't make clear is that the advertised max bost is for single-core loads only. Unless I'm mistaken the all-core bost on the 1065g7 is 3.4Ghz and even that depends on the type of operations it's running.

I have been ardently watching your videos for the past few months now and I must say you do a really great job. Especially liked the one focussed on programming. But I have a video suggestion for you - laptops with really good, front/top firing speakers that won't break your bank. I see a lot of Dells and Lenovos with great specs but they all have low-power downward firing speakers and that has become a deal breaker for me. I would really love to see a list of (relatively) affordable laptops that have great speakers. Because frankly, you don't always have headphones around. I ask this primarily for listening to podcasts and tutorials and not music. Either way, great going with the channel and I am always looking out for the next video!

Hi Ninand, thanks for the nice words. I appreciate that. Are you open to Apple's? They have great speakers. Also the Surface Book 2 (hopefully Book 3) soon has forward facing speakers that are good (not to be confused with Laptop 3, who's speakers often rattle and I wouldn't recommend)

@@JustJoshTech honestly, my response comes after having used my first Apple laptop, the MacBook Air. That's the first time I understood the convenience of good speakers. So yes. Great video, although my Surface Laptop 3 has an i5-1035G7 (not G1) and performs much closer the the i7 in GPU bound tasks than this video might suggest. Therefore I'd recommend looking at the specific chip your potential laptop has as not all i5's (and i7's for that matter) are created equal!
@Momi_V
@Momi_V 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting comparison, especially as some reviewers recommend an i5 without actually testing it just because their i7 throttled nice to see someone testing it. But I have to oppose you in one point: you mentioned the i5's lower actual clock speed compared to the i7 may be a software limitation. I think it's due to the lower silicone quality of the i5, requiring more voltage / power to hit the same clock speed. This means the i5 will hit it's power limit (here 38W) or temperature limit (100°) at a lower clock speed

It's worth noting that he compared the 1065G7 to the 1035G1 and not the 1035G7. The 1035G7 has 64 graphics cores like the i7, while the G1 variant has only 32, which definitely impacted the video rendering benchmark among other things.

That is funny that you did this comparison. I had an i5 in an HP Envy that ended up having battery issues because of the heat. I was recommended buying an I7 since they run cooler, so I picked up an IdeaPad at costco for $750. Ironically, the computer that I have has the exact processor that you are testing with - the i7 - 1065G7 processor. Ever since I bought it, I have had zero complaints. It runs about 41C all the time and when I need some real power, it seems like it has enough to spare for anything that I need. I am in the market to buy another computer, a small-form factor mini computer and I am strongly looking at one with an Intel Core i7-10510U @ 1.80GHz. After looking at the benchmark scores, I am leery about the purchase, but I will not be buying another i5 after seeing the difference.

This is super interesting. Would love to see a similar test with the Matebooks since they have also substantial heating issues and an aluminium chassis, which heats up quite a lot.

WOW! I just saw your xps 13 9300 review and I think I found the youtuber who is like me about fan noise. I hate laptops which turn on the fan while browsing or watching youtube, it should be always completely turn off doing light task!! This is for me a deal breaker in any laptop or brand!!

Okay this was super helpful. I just bought a laptop with this i5 in it, and I am going to return it and save up for an i7. I appreciate the breakdown!

Does it mean that finally the performance of the two cpu is conditioned by the cooling capacity of the laptop ? In the end I see little interest to take the i7 even if it is a little above the i5.

Thanks a lot! I am looking for a laptop and found the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 with i5 and i7 with 8 GB and 16 GB of RAM respectively, and the price was about $150 difference. Originally, I thought i5 would be for better cooling because laptops these days are super-thin and my dad's i7 laptop (Inspiron 14 5000 2-in-1) heated up easily in video exports and Zoom recoding conversions, so I thought I would be fine with i5. But, after I saw this video, I thought that i7 would be the best in terms of performance (even thought I don't know why 3.6 GHz would be good for me, coming from a 1.7 GHz laptop) and 16 GB RAM only was in i7s.

For gaming? You're gonna be bottlenecked by the graphics card, so the first option is better because it has more space in the SSD, but you'll get the same framerates on both computers.
