Saw the 917s run many times in the late 60s snd early 70s from trackside and from within the pits. Siffert, Rodriquez, Redman, etc.; even Donohue in the CanAms. Spectacular.

In the late 90's, I was Chief Driving Instructor for PCA Potomac. We were at VIR for an exciting weekend. While "resting" preparing to go out with another student, from across the paddock I heard a sound like denim ripping. Hurried over to see and one of our members (who owned and sold a couple of IT companies) was unloading his 917 from the transport. I found that someone who is 6'4" doesn't really fit in these cars and that the most glorious thing you will ever hear is one of these winding out on the main straight at VIR. Just f'n glorious. . .
