What you described looks exactly like completely fake dating sites filled with bots and stolen photos. I tried it twice for fun on VM under Linux live session when I got "friend" requests from bots on FB. I named my account on one of those as "LinuxMintOnVM" ,set my age to 100 years and McMurdo station on Antarctica as place where I live. What was really funny is how many young women from my circa 50k town "were" on that site and all of them online. 😂 For some time I was reporting those luring bots on FB but but they did not found anything wrong with them… 🤷‍♂ They are usually headquatered in tax-haven of Netherlands and I wonder what happens with money that was lured from idiots who fell to it. Is some asshole going to buy a Ferrari for them or weapons for terrorists? 🤔

My experience with online dating was no one can get anyone’s full attention. Especially in bigger metro areas. Everyone is getting messages from so many people and it’s hard for anyone to decide on who to focus on. Each time you login, there is more new people messaging you or responding to you. But all those people are experiencing that exact same thing, it’s like everyone is constantly distracted by someone new.

@stretopovermind9680
@stretopovermind9680 2 жыл бұрын
@@calico9046 Funny, but that's probably not the way it works. The reason is much simpler: once you have created a profile - you are a new user and thus are shown simultaneously to all the people whose filter conditions (gender, age, distance, etc) you satisfy (and who already exhausted all the previously registered users). This (by the law of large numbers) creates an initial uptick in that "interest in your profile".

@@stretopovermind9680 I never thought about it like that. Fair point. Ironically, I made a new account not even a day later. Tinder might have shitty paywalls & be able to permenantly ban you but it does have a lot of users & the majority are legit. I think the trick to it is to use it casually. Don’t check every five minutes or exhaust all your potential matches at once. Moderation is key although I still struggle w/ that

I'm surprised they didn't bring up the fact that there are about 8:1 men vs women ratio on most dating apps and even after women leave they keep their accounts around to make men think there is more selection. There are also just some unpredictable biases that algorithms can develop, depending on how it's made it could be a reflection of the biases of the user base, or just something that isn't obvious until hundreds of people were using it.

Yes, this is my one gripe with this video. Most algorithms like dating algorithms are trained on a dataset, and are constantly learning and updating. Most of the time if an algorithm displays a bias, it’s actually due to the training data, not some evil agenda the creators had. Although that being said, it is the responsibility of the creators to observe the training of their algorithm and intervene if it starts displaying discriminatory behavior

I remember a story, where they were creating an algorithm to count a species of fish in the ocean. When the programmers started looking into the code to see how the algorithm was identifying fish (it was using pictures and matching the fish visually to them), they found that the algorithm was looking for fingers. So why was the algorithm looking for fingers on fish? As it turnes out, the images it was using as its references, were all pictures of this species of fish, being held up by fishermen to show them off, and the fingers were visible on the body of the fish, thus the program was looking for fingers on the fish. This is an example of how an algorithm can give itself a bias. (I should add, this algorithm wasn't being fed pictures from the programmers, I believe it was set up to actively source them online also.)

Also algorithms by definition are going to look for the target with the most possible matches, the "sure thing". But in terms of dating, that'll likely be very bland - 84% of people of your TYPE report liking 78% of people of this TYPE. An app never would've matched me with either my late husband or college b/f (all diff ethnicities, vastly different family/upbringing, diff politics even in case of college guy, height way out of bounds LOL) Until they design an app that can assess people by the books you enjoyed, what you see when you look at the sky, hopes for tomorrow, etc, I think it's probably just a crapshoot.

Thats not exacly true. Dating sites and apps WANT you to get into relationships and to hook up. Coz that way you will use it again when your relationship is over, or when you want to hook up again. Plus - if you get results - you will promote that site/app to your freinds for free. But apps are not magic. People are usualy single for a reason. To be into a healthy relationship - you must be a healthy yourself, and to know how to pick a parther. VAST majority of people suck at this, apps or no apps.

@@alexforce9 No. Dating Apps don't want you to get into any monogamous relationships. Time someone is in such a relationship is time they aren't paying money (men) or aren't getting men to pay (women). People only using the apps for a short while every couple years would not be very profitable at all. What apps want is that you engage in hook-ups only, or relationships were you stay on the apps. Customers advertising to other people works just as well when their "success" is hook-ups. Most people who are single aren't single because there is something wrong with them. Especially for men it's getting increasingly difficult to find partners, because people more and more only date on apps, where looks are everything and you're fcked if you are a below average looking guy.
@alexforce9
@alexforce9 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-jp4em You forget that men will pay only if there is some sort of incentive. If you have zero results, you will just delete the app and say to all your male friends that the app is trash. Hook ups and relationships are not so different. A woman will not sleep with guy she is not finding attractive. And if she is finding you attractive, she will want a relationship with you. So the apps WANT you to be popular with women. Coz then you are more likely to pay. And thats why at first few days - tinder show your profile to A LOT of women, so you can get matches so you can taste a bit of that dopamine.

Even if I was struggling in a subject, I didn't need to be a jerk that disrupted class. I'd just doodle in my notebook and take my F with grace (only in math classes though nearly in Physics as well as it's very math-heavy. Most other subjects I was either a B or C student in, with English and Language Arts being where I excelled). Also, I call very unjust bull on teachers having to spend out of pocket on supplies. Do police officers have to come out of pocket for more bullets? Do fire fighters have to pay out of pockets for new hoses? Hell, gas for the truck or police cruiser is probably even covered by taxes AND they get free shit or discounts from stores and fast food places. But it's rare I see discounts for teachers. I was homeschooled, work from home, cannot drive, have chronic health issues that make travel hard and social anxiety. Was it always a nice experiance? HELL no. @@timjones5953 nothing was mentioned about living in a basement. I mentioned seeking activities which will allow him to converse with strangers, including the attractive young women we all know that he's looking for. He's not looking for just young women, as anybody with any kind of social circle can meet a "normal" girl on US media's attractive scale. 50% of our population is female, so he's definitely not having problems meeting young women. That's where my comment was directed, and I'm quite sure that you knew that. It's still ridiculous to be "torn" because of "comptetition" with other guys through the girls you meet on a Tinder dating app (which is almost exclusively based on race and perceived attractiveness). Everything is a competition, and everyone is vying for the attention of another, unless people aren't. Which bring me to the conclusion that he's not going where there isn't much competition. Thus why I believe that he's not seeking "normal" looking young women outside of online dating. He sounds like he believes that he is entitled to attention from attractive young women, once he arrives on the scene and "meets" or "traps" them. There should be no competition.

@@reina4969 I mean the creep mode explaination is basically how they treat men in the platform. Nothing more than a talking wallet

@@dieptrieu6564 Creep mode? Yeah, I can see that. It is similar to how clubs and bars are free for women to attract men. That seems to work because a guy can be visual spoken for. In the apps, the same top 6 to 10% of men get 80 to 90% of attention. That is why girl friends groups often find that all of them have been with the same one or two guys.

Not truly defending dating apps here but lets face it, dating was messed up to begin with. I got the same crap before the apps came along.
